Amazing food, excellent service – a really lovely evening out.
The best roast dinner I’ve ever had and the Tiramisu is to die for! Thoroughly recommend a visit to this great restaurant.

I’ve been a coffee local of Long Bay Restaurant for a few years now. I love its location (especially on a sunny day). The staff are always welcoming and have a great sense of humour. However last weekend was the first time I tried the food and I’m happy to report that it was as good as the location. Well done !!!

Not good! We arrived and the service was beyond poor! Wouldn’t recommend – it’s January, was the best day we’ve seen all summer and the umbrellas were all “broken” which meant that on the best day of summer you can’t enjoy the views they boast. The waitress had no interest in us, the BYO they offer was left to cook in the sun, had to ask for glasses which didn’t arrive and we had to reset the tables with the seats we needed….there was no offer of water! Was such a disappointment given their location…we walked out…

Thanks very much for your feedback Tracey, it is important to hear that if we are not up to the standard we expect of ourselves, we can address issues of sub-standard service promptly and effectively. We hope you can come again one day, and your review will be…    More »

We recently held our 50th and 25th wedding anniversaries at LBR. Our party was 25 people. LBR allowed us to go early to decorate our tables. We had a set menu of which we chose the steak, chicken and fish dishes. The dessert menu was open. We organized breads and dips. The wait staff were attentive and polite and there were no mistakes. Everyone enjoyed the food and wine selections. The price was great as was the location. A very successful evening which we are very thankful for.

Awesome place to take your out-of-town guests or celebrate a special occasion. Amazing views of ocean/Hauraki gulf. You can see the tip of the coromandel off in the distance on a clear day. Good honest service and great food. Dinner menu boutique but covered a good range of well thought out dishes – I’d rather choose from 6-8 entrees and mains that are all made with love than an encyclopedia of mediocre choices. Wines list is the same with plenty of ‘by the glass’ options. A deck side seat in summer next to the waves has got to be one of the best seats in town.
The building needs work as it looks a bit worn (this is why I’m not giving 5 stars) but it was clean. Our server said they are renovating soon so it will be interesting to see what they do with the place. In a city with so many beaches, there are precious few restaurants this close to the water.
Long Bay Restaurant is one of my faves and I look forward to returning again soon.

We took business couple to lunch here partly because they had a 2 year old child and we felt the restaurant was fairly casual and child friendly. It is so disappointing when a restaurant with a fantastic position provides very average food and service. The whole place could do with a good spruce up, it looks scruffy, the outside area has mouldy faded umbrellas and the food was average. My salad looked old (possibly recycled), the water was tap water, my chips very average and my battered Tarakihi unremarkable. The service was friendly but erratic. The food could have been prepared by any food hall/lunch bar cook……not a chef! Maybe he had the day off?

We had our wedding at Long Bay in March. Not only did the manager Andy go above and beyond with arranging the menu to suit they put out perfect meals. We had 50% of the guests from overseas and they were all raving about the quality of the food.

We have dined here a few times and didn’t expect that the wedding fare would be to the same standard, 30 perfectly cooked eye fillet steaks.

I dont understand the other reviews for this restaurant. They have a huge thumbs up from me and we will go back again and again.

Make sure you order the steak.

The view was good but the food was average. I had a Beer Battered Fish so I wasn’t expecting much anyway. The portion was very generous but I would rather they charge less for a smaller meal.

Hmmmm, shame the food here wasn’t so good! They have a captive audience with being the only eaterie along this bit of shore. Perhaps that is why they keep going?? The food I got was not as described on the menu, the burnt bits had been turned over so that maybe I wouldn’t notice?? I did! The service was awful too. The wine was good… they have a nice offering but a clean glass would have been nicer! I’m normally one to make a fuss at the time but it was a hens dinner and it wasn’t the right time so I will write my honest review here. I wouldn’t eat here again! I went at lunch time and would never trust the service at dinner to be any better. Sorry guys – must try harder!

We searched the Web for 5 Star Restaurants on the North Shore to celebrate our wedding anniversary and were attracted by Long Bay’s Website and duly booked. We drove from our home (55 mins away) with great expectation. Even though we had booked a table, on arrival were told to “sit anywhere” and we sat outside. The waitress brought water and took our wine order and we asked for garlic bread (lovely). It was all downhill from there! We ordered the mains when the bread arrived and were told there would be a delay but we were happy to sit and look at the 5 Star View of the beach. After an hour(!) another waitress came to ask what we had ordered!! My salmon main promised “capers and olives” – no olives in sight but copious amounts of red onion (which I loathe). My husband’s chicken maryland came with a large amount of chips and a crumbed pineapple ring obviously from a packet in the freezer. We had to find a waitress to place our dessert order. The desserts were well presented but not exceptional. By this time (and another bottle of wine!) the restaurant was almost empty with staff preparing an evening function. When asked if we had enjoyed our meal we pointed out the time delay and were told there were only two chefs on (not our problem) The stairs to the restrooms are overdue for an upgrade and I hate to think when the last time the handrail was cleaned. All in all a disappointing visit, not worth the two hour round trip. This restaurant is definitely NOT a five star experience.
