Last time I went they forgot to bring our coffees up until we went down to remind them. The time before, the same. The time before that, there was a hair in my fish patty, and they grudgingly swapped it, remarking that the cook didn’t have hair like that- while pointedly looking at mine.
I use cafes weekly in Onehunga, and try not to go here, although others often want to for the kids area or the space. The salads are OK- not many others offer them, so comparatively, they’re good. The coffee is OK. The cakes are very good. The staff aren’t particularly great. Onehunga has many cafes, you don’t need to settle for this.

I recently visited the delightful Luscious Food Store in Te Atatu Peninsula. We sat outside, and wached the children playing in the sandpit, etc. I think the reviewer called Pip is referring to that establishment, not Luscious Cafe in Onehunga Mall, which I cannot fairly comment on as I haven’t been there for many years. I am required to rate it to complete this ‘review’ so my rating is based on that historical occasion! I had a great brunch there 10 years ago…. Will return one day.

Firstly, the salads here blow my mind!
Secondly, My 3 year old can literally spend hours with her friends in the playroom upstairs, which has a window hole cut into the wall so I can keep an eye on her while I sit back and relax with friends in the dining space next door. Over lunch and coffee.
Back to the salads though… What can I say? I had 4 diff types of plant-based salads, and they WERE all LUSCIOUS.
I came back last Sunday , only to discover they’re not open on that day… But I’m looking forward to my next excuse to come back.

I went to Luscious last week and I was really impressed with the service.
As soon as we got to the counter we were greeted by a cheerful barista.
When I asked if the vegetarian pide had goat’s cheese in it (it did) and they immediately offered to make me one without it.
The food and coffee were spot on.
Love the kid’s menu and the outdoor area, with mats on the grass if you want a more laid back visit. My 2 year old had a great time in the sand pit and writing on the huge blackboard.
The floor staff were chatty and smiley.
I’ll be back!

The salads are just superb. I’ve had one every time I went – even if I just went in to get a coffee and something sweet. But you just can’t resist. They look so healthy and yummy – and certainly are! Also the sweets were always very nice and I was also always lucky with the coffee. I also like the atmosphere there and the different seating options downstairs or upstairs. Luscious really brightens up the trip to the airport if I have to drop someone or pick someone up!
Would be cool if it was open longer! People also drink coffee after 4pm!

The food is amazing, the coffee is ok most of the time. The atmosphere in the cafe is the main problem. If it wasn’t for the kind staff then I would never go back, the space up stairs is tolerable but still they could do so much more with the place.

The salads are the reason I go to ‘Luscious’. Consistently tasty, creative and fresh. Service is average-not unpleasant but not particularly attentive either. Shame they are not open Sundays (but I understand everyone needs a day off)

Really love the selection of cabinet food and the oh so lovely salads, especially the yellow lentil salad which is an absolute favourite of mine. Also, the white chocolate brownie, one for me and one for the drive home (chuckle, chuckle)… Now iv only decided to give it 3.5 stars (just imagine a .5 star as well) because I find the coffee is never consistent.
Food is absolutely glorious, and the service is quick and friendly, but consistency in the coffee making would be the
only thing that I would fault it on.

I guess I went on a bad day. They did say their usual muffin chef was on holiday after I sent back two muffins (the second was to replace the first gluggy mess but was no better).
I’ve had salads from there before, and they were delicious. I might just stick to them next time.

been going to this cafe for years for coffee and some treats as well. good idea for this packet of truffles, as gifts as cheap price. love the salads mainly.
Have you ever tried a Soy Chai that tasted like pancakes? Well you can if you go here. This place is great for lunch and has heaps of yummy healthy goodies. Also amazing coffee… perfect every time. I’ve been going here for years and except for the new coat of paint, it hasn’t changed. I love it.
