2nd time in Rotorua, 1st time at Mike’s
PROS
Service: very attentive and my server always had a smile
Attitude: customer comes first
Delivery: what they promised and it came when i expected it
value: the lam rump roast was perfect
CON:
no specials or chef’s pick of the day
I gave them the 10% discount card from the tourism book. they said they would accept it. at payment time, no 10% was given – poor interaction between server and manager
I would go again

Have just returned from Europe and decided we needed a holiday from holiday 
The Rotorua is our favourite place to relax and we go there at least 7 times a year, however, have dined at Mac’s Steaks for the first time. And WOW !!!! Outstanding Service!!! Haven’t been served like that at any of the European restaurants

Seems some people only review places if they have had a bad experience?
We dined at Mac’s Steaks a few nights ago and I must say it was much more then we expected. Not your typical ‘steak-house’, the meals were to die for! The eye-fillet meal my partner had just melted in her mouth and no words for the sauce, just divine. I had the lamb rump meal and the flavours and tenderness of the lamb were just amazing. Good service and excellent food means we will definitely be telling our friends.

We dined as a family and found the entire experience very unsatisfactory.
There were tables that arrived after us that were being served before us.
After waiting over 45mins for our meals to arrive i asked a waiter who spoke very little English where our meals were, he had no idea what i was asking!
We had to ask twice for a bottle of water for the table.
Upon expressing our dissatisfaction the Duty Manager was argumentative and rude.
Our three year old sons meal was the last to come out, even after the adult food had arrived. I am unable to comment on the actual food as we all left due to the poor service, the fact it was after 9pm we were actually served even though we arrived by 7.30pm – far too late for a child to be served dinner, and the attitude of the Duty Manager.
Will certainly not be dining here again nor will we be recommending to anyone.

Very dissatisfied with the service we received. Waited over an hour for food and then we had to ask where it was. Other tables that had come in after us were served before us. When we complained the duty manager was very argumentative and made us feel like it was our problem. They could have advised us of a wait when being seated. Couldn’t tell you what the food was like because we left due to the duty managers attitude. Would never go there again or recommend to anyone.

Had the most amazing service at Mac’s Steak house. The food was incredible and our waiter Brook was great.
I had the rack of lamb and it was cooked to perfection. My boyfriend had the T-bone and it was also the most amazing taste!
Brook knew all about the wine we selected and even told us where we could go to buy it ourselves.
Better service when you leave Auckland by the looks! Well done guys, keep it up!!!

I have been a regular at Mac’s Steaks for some time now, we dined there for the first time since their new renovations last night, wow looking great. A modern and fresh look that matches great food and service.
I had a portobello eye fillet that melted in my mouth and the jus was awesome, thanks to the chef who shared the secret on how it was made, my wife who is not a big steak fan loves dining at Mac’s too because of the variety on the menu had the salmon which was exactly how she requested it to be cooked, perfect size meals which left us with just enough room for a chocolate dream, you got to try this!
Great attentive service as usual, good effort guys, see you next time.

I’ve been visiting this restaurant about once every couple of months for several years whenever I’m in Rotorua on business.
Last night was my first visit since their recent refurbishment and I have to say I’m very disappointed. The decor has gone from a lovely warm cosy atmosphere to cold & clinical and they now have METAL CHAIRS that are freezing. I had a numb backside by the end of the meal.
The new menu has fewer steak dishes than before (what’s the name of the restaurant again?) and while the meat was very nice and cooked well, the vegetables left a lot to be desired and the salad was horrible. Weeds pulled from my garden would taste better. Desert was average at best.
The prices have increased to the point where I expect much better than this.
Higher prices, poorer food and a horrible redecoration means I won’t be going back again.

As frequent visitors to eat street we have always met up with our friends and family and enjoyed visiting Macs.Over the last few visits we have been extremely disappointed with price increases and diminishing sizes. Side veges and salads may not have been their as they are an insult to the meal. Most of the staff are very sloppy in appearance and a couldn’t care less attitude. As family we dine out quite often and have been very interested in listening to other peoples feed back and it is certainly not good. Things are being left off orders, and at those prices thet should be perfect. Gone from Awesome to Awful.

I have loved Macs many times in the past as a travlling rep and would not hesitate to take customers there. First time back overnight in Rotorua for a while and I find they have done a refit and paintjob along with a new menu. Looks great.
Pity the food is not as great. Good service and I ordered the eye fillet with blue cheese and a portobello mushroom. Question – where is the mushroom….and the blue cheese….and the steak?? Very little amount of food on the plate for a $38 main dish – and the side salad may as well not have been there it was so small and drowned in what tasted like a jar of ETA mayonnaise. It did taste excellent but I went to McDonalds on the way back to the motel for something to fill me up. Sorry but they have lost a fan.

given the name i expected average service and average food but have to say both food and service were exceptional. one of the few places on this planet that have a name outside that understates the quality within.

My most horrible experience at a steakhouse.
On arrival the waitress was very nice and seated us within 2 minutes. Ten minutes later we ordered our starter and main meal. Starter arrived 10 minutes later. Half an hour later I asked a gentleman to find out where is our food – he came back and said because we want our steak well-done its taking longer. Half an hour after him another waitress came to apologize to us – they gave our order to someone else but they will have our order ready within 5 minutes. They offered complimentary drinks(with ice in) that was delivered ten minutes later. We arrived at Macs Steaks at 19h05 and at 20h30 I told my wife I’m leaving. She asked me to wait 5 more minutes and at exactly 20h35 our food arrived.
When we went to pay our bill the cashier asked how was our meal and I told her it was the most horrible experience. We had an argument, the cashier lost her cool and we parted agreeing never to patronize that establishment again.

Me and my partner had tea there on Sun and we got starters,mains and deserts and all the food was superb i recommend to anyone and can’t wait to go back primo guys and the service was great
