Being new to Auckland we live out in Red Beach so wanted a half way point for meeting family for a birthday lunch! The whole seating arrangement was very nice although abit dark! Very friendly waitresses and pleasant surroundings! Nice family atmosphere. We had 4 children with us and were greeted with colouring pencils and paper at the end the children were seated at! Drinks served nice and promptly, had a long wait for a waitress to take our lunch menu orders had to call them over.BUT the food was devine, three of us had BLAT with chicken, lovely huge meals with seasoned chips. One had Lamb Burger, and other had Shanks! EVERYONE including children very happy! A longgg wait for coffee but think the rather large group also booked in may have kept everyone busy!…all in all a lovely meal and would definately go back again!

I have given the malt house many chances for redemption but I won’t be going there again.

The service was below average, there was a lot of items out of stock so could not be ordered off the menu. When the meals did turn up my steak was cold and well done as opposed to medium rare. My husband ordered the lamb shanks which were ok but nothing special.

Over priced and less than impressive. Oh and be sure to check your bill prior to paying, on two occasions we have nearly been charged for another tables drinks.

My husband and I went to The Malt House in Greenhithe for lunch yesterday for the first time and it WON’T be the last! The lady on the bar was cheerful and we were made to feel very welcome. The food, hot and nicely cooked, and beer awesome, we left very satisfied. We sat outside and we felt really comfortable that we could have stayed all day.

Several times this year we were advised that the food may take 40 – 50 minutes as we were understaffed…?!

The totally overpriced Pizzas are not to be recommended at all as they put loads of all-sorts-of-stuff on it and it’s not a Pizza anymore. The kitchen staff (I don’t think there is a cook there) needs to take some basic cooking lessons.

This was the third time in a year that the pizzas were not eatable. I always gave it another chance, but no improvement visible.

However, it’s just a pub, and they should stay with simple pub food and not trying to be sophisticated, it does not work.

The beer is good, but overpriced as well.

Given that it was a Thurs evening, the place was packed, crowded and had a hyped atmosphere. My partner and I went there to try somewhere different (venue wise) and so we settled on this very nice picturesque suburb. The decor was a splash of modern and old fashion pub and with that said, so was their food!

Having waited for a table for 15-20 mins over a drink we managed to get a table. The hostess was great and apologetic about the delay as it is one of their busiest nights. Once our order was made, we didn’t have to wait long for the food to come out, I had the lamb shanks and my partner had the pasta. They were good large size portions and could barely finish it. The lamb was cooked perfectly and the meat was falling off the bone and the pasta al dente. The sauces for both dishes were excellent and not sickening.

The atmosphere was great and quite lively. The hostess offered that we sit at the bar but with the amount of people milling around that area we opted to sit outside where there were plenty of tables and great heaters. Before being seated in the dining area, I had the chance to chat to some of the locals and they informed me that it’s the popular place for locals and busy nights are normally Thurs – Sat but there is always few people that go down most evenings on other days.

I would definitely go back there, but maybe not on such a busy night! Oh, and before I forget the pizza oven was divine for a cold winter night.

I went to the Malthouse last Friday night, looking forward to a nice meal as I have been many times in the past and it’s always been good. Sadly, I was disappointed. I ordered the fish of the day (snapper – $25). When it arrived it smelt really strong/fishy. I tasted it but it was as it smelt – old and unpleasant.
When I let them know about it, I was not impressed. The waitress took our plates away and a guy came back and said very abruptly that they get their fish in daily and it would have been fresh. After a long conversation about it he reluctantly offered a discount. I went to pay and he had only taken off our drinks ($14), when I said I thought he was going to discount my meal, he said “no, this is the easiest way”. I couldn’t be bothered fighting so we paid and left. I’m not that bothered about the fish, but to receive such poor customer service after receiving a bad meal is totally unacceptable. My friend also received a chicken burger instead of lamb, but they didn’t say anything about that either.
Overall not a good experience.

Well I will hold my hands up now and say Greenhithe Malthouse I apologies!
For a few weeks another couple who are frineds of ours have been saying there going there for dinner would we like to come and we just haven’t gone, the allblacks game was on and we finally got round to it. I was expecting a run down old pub with deep fried samosas and spring rolls on the menu….How wrong can you be! On the outside, there hope of a great night is not better, until you walk through the doors and your greeted with a huge stone pizza oven, and we sat in the really nicely decorated retaurant area, I dont know how they managed it but the bar was busy because of the game and it never once intruded on our meal. The food was generally excellent, I had a blue eye filet which i was extremely pleased to bite into as sometimes its just cold and raw but it was excellent, just nicely warm throughout. All of the food was great, the service was polite with only one minor let down was I asked for bread and dips while we eaited for the food and he bread took ages but was toasted and cold so had probably been on the pass for a while, other than that this is truly a hidden gem!

This is better than you would expect of a pub restaurant. Especially good for pizzas which come out of the large stone oven.
