Why didnt i read these reviews first !….Our experience was awful. The customer service was terrible, as previously mentioned the port a loos disgusting ! We had made a special trip up to have a girls weekend away with the tavern and band being the “Highlight” …Boy were we wrong!. Never again sooooo disappointed. If your looking for a cool venue go to the liegh sawmill (my local) its a way better service/atmosphere :)

Went there a couple of years ago and were not impressed but decided to give them another go. Went to have lunch and they ‘forgot’ our order of 1 x Whitebait fritter meal with fries. They were not busy at all and we couldn’t see any other meals being made. Order Ticket was still hanging up in front of them so clearly hadn’t been completed. So from time of order to receiving the meal was about 40 mins. Average food. Won’t be eating there again.

A year later and still no change! I agree with all other reviews!
Changes needed!
Just went to see the band six60- 3 girls, not drinking from Sydney, the staff and security do not understand the concept of responsible service in anyway!
The crowd entered majority drunk and rowdy, no control what so ever and the venue and porta-loos were foul! what a waste of $190, for a feral crowd and lazy, poorly engaged security staff!!! Never again and it has turned me off an otherwise half decent band!! Do not go here I wish I read these reviews first!!! Do not go

Went to see a band there. They removed ALL seating which was unnecessary, the picnic tables could have stayed down the back! The portaloos were disgusting and ran out of toilet paper very early on, there was no hand wash or hand sanitizer. The power kept going out when the bands were on. The bar didn’t take eftpos so you had to line up at one eftpos terminal to get cash out to buy drinks. The bar food was below average. Going to another gig in a few days (Jan 2011) and am hoping it has improved since October. As a Mangawhai local I was embarrassed.

The staff elected to turn the cold water off for some reason. The hot taps were working but the toilets weren’t flushing. They also told the band that we had paid a cover charge for had to stop because the patrons in the bar next door ‘couldn’t hear the rugby. The Mangawhai Tavern used to be an awesome place to see live music. Not any more.
