Frequent here often. Just good tucker with a busy hustle bustle atmosphere, with the views to compliment.
All meals from brunch to lunch a brill.
A typical Wellington cafe you must visit. Considering how busy it is, the staff do well to keep it all cool & calm.
Obviously on wknds be prepared for the wait at the door before you can get your table, but once in you forget about the wait and come back to do the same thing next time.

Vastly overrated.
We were told it would be 5 mins for a table.
During the actual 20 min wait for a table I noticed how filthy the kitchen was, not a good start.
Finally got a table, sadly it still had food scraps from the last clients on it. Then told there was a 45 min wait for food.
Ordered 2 Cappuccino’s only to get 2 tall glasses of very milky lukewarm coffee.
Waitress insisted they were Cappuccino’s, clearly she was a tea drinker and thought the would be Barista knew what he was doing.
There is no excuse for any Cafe’ in Wellington not knowing the basic styles of coffee or practising basic food hygiene.
Wont be going again.

Wow this cafe is amazing and I have been there time and time again. Their vegetarian big breakfasts are worth a try! You do need to line up and wait for a seat on the weekends but I think this just shows how good the place really is.
Food took 50 minutes to come out. Had the Scrambled Tofu, it was drowning in Soy Sauce and was so salty I couldn’t eat it. The bread was cold and rock hard. We also ordered the Big Breakfast and that too was ridiculously salty. No one enjoyed their meal. One the plus side, they had a good selection of sauces, that was the only good thing. Will not be dining here again.

Such a fab place. No wonder the queues stretch down the stairs on even the wildest and windiest of Wellington days!

Maranui rules. The interior is awesome, the views are amazing, the food and coffee are yum. The place is always packed, busy and pretty noisy but the waiting staff are super nice, friendly and relaxed. It’s a great place to take visitors to Wellies/NZ because it shows off all the things we love best about our town.

Brilliant food , coffee , location and staff are great. Food extensive and salads are great and not lacking in substance or flavour. Decor retro , eclectic and ever changing view of beach is captivating. Busy place at times add to atmosphere and although busy food and service prompt and efficient. Lots of regular locals which is always a good sign.

I went there for the first this Sunday (since it was re-done). Got a seat pretty quickly. Not all the staff were as on to it as they used to be, something I used to love about this place.
As for the food, the counter-top cakes and thick-shakes were supreme. The food off the menu however was average. I ordered the Halumi and roasted Tomato bagel, well the Tomato was barely cooked and the bottom of the bagel was soggy
My mates toasted sandwich was a bit better, but both seemed a little pricey.
Hope they can get back to where they once were.

I love Maranui. There berry smoothies are some of the best in Wellington! Must try.

Love Maranui. Food is always tasty and fresh. Good variety of cabinet food although they need to add in here some ‘simpler’ stuff for kids that you can just grab for them if you are in for a coffee. Service is always good. They always tell you if there is going to be a wait on food.

i love this cafe so much, fantastic service and great food.
It is busy and crowded but thats just part of the fun.
food waits can be long at times but at least the staff warn you if its going to be over 20 mins and theres always much faster counter food options !!great salads!!

Beautiful coffee! Improved food. Slow service though. And very noisy as it seems to be a favourite for couples with children.

The coffee here is really good, there is also a good special on Tuesday for a big breakfast and coffee it is just $16. The staff make a good effort to get to know their regular customers which is really nice. I personally avoid going on the weekend because it is far too busy and they don’t seem to cope well. Early morning during the week is best – opens at 7am / 7 days.
I think that Maranui is now only trading on what it used to be. We where in here today for lunch and while the cafe was busy it was not that busy. From the time we ordered to the time the food arrived was almost 45 mins, I had to go up and ask twice how far away it was, when it finally arrived the food was cold.
All in all a very bad experience, this is now off my return cafe list

I went to Maranui today for the 1st time, I will not be going back. The service was poor, the coffee was a brown muck. I have better quality food and service at a service station. They charge like the are a 5 star cafe and deliver products at a level that is below what anyone should accept.
I do not know what people see in this place, there are better cafes near by
PS don’t try there web site as it will give you a Fatal error: Access denied for user

Great setting, beautiful view. Rude waitress although she improved after overhearing me say crap service! Drinks sloshed down in front of us, spilling them. Food OK, wouldn’t rave.
Maranui remains one of my all-round favourite cafes. The food is great, the coffee is well made, the atmosphere delightful, and the scenery is priceless. It gets incredibly busy at peak times and weekends, so it pays to get in early and grab a table.

Can’t say enough good things about Maranui Surf club. Sure, it’s busy, but that just gives it a vibe. Great coffee. Great, great, hard-working I-enjoy-my-job staff. Great food. Particularly recommend the date scones. The “shop-dressing” is excellent. The beach/fifties/water-related theme is authentic and convincing. This place is great!

Enjoy the food & coffee here, but always find it difficult to get a seat anywhere that isn’t awkward or shoved outside in the wind! Very busy cafe, but good standard of food for price & friendly staff (they look exhausted!)
