Went to Marbecks Cafe a few times now but after my last visit I thought they deserved a good review we went here for breakfast after noticing a good and refreshing change in the cabinet food good one, I ordered the salmon eggs benedict which was really tasty and well presented and my friend ordered the “big breakfast” not sure what it’s called the only thing not good on the plate was the sausage otherwise it was great!

We went to Marbecks on a rainy Palmy day and was so surprised by their lunch menu, yummy salmon cakes and beautiful coffee! They stock Nice Blocks by Tommy & James, Chocolate & Samoan coconut cream and an awesome variety of kids books: Friendly helpful staff, very cool place..

I go to Marbecks often and love the whole atmosphere…..the food is amazing, I love the coffees and you get to listen to music while your eating/drinking…..and of course the service.

Like any cafe/restaurant you go to there are all kinds of people that serve you so wherever I go I always treat people the way I would like to be treated, so I dont get impatient or cranky if they are busy (so my food may take a little longer to come out – or my coffee) but that’s ok. If I’m in a hurry then Ill go to a fast food takeaway…..but if I want nice food from a cafe and see that its busy and I’m not in a hurry then I wait patiently cause I know in the end, it was worth the wait.

I don’t understand why people feel they need to make silly uncalled for remarks about a place just cause they are in a bad mood. If you don’t want to wait for decent food cause a place is busy, then just go home or don’t go in if it looks busy.

So all in all, Marbecks is a great place with excellent service and wonderful food.

Thanks Marbecks team and have a lovely Xmas :)

A loyal regular…..

Love this place. Probably go twice a week for breakfast. Our favorite would be the Garlic Mushrooms & Eggs Benedict.

My only one problem would be the small wooden chairs, their rather uncomfortable.

But other that highly recommend :D :D

This restaurant was welcoming and accessible to customers both from inside The Plaza complex and direct footpath access. Menu choice was extensive with an emphasis on quality, fresh produce and attention to presentation detail. Staff were attentive, pleasant and timely in their meal and refreshment delivery. As a visitor to Palmerston North, Marbecks provided an overall quality experience.

I’m a fan of the staff, food and atmosphere of Palmerston North’s Marbecks.

I go there most mornings for coffee and/or a snack. Sometimes I pop in for lunch and at weekends my girlfriend and I have gone in for breakfast. The staff are always very friendly and try to be as fast as they can, though you can appreciate that it is a busy place.

I enjoy the cabinet food, especially the muffins, bagels and sandwiches. They also have a decent range of slices and cakes. The cookie fudge is rich and amazing, as is the brownie cheesecake. The brunch meals on the menu are simple but nice and reasonably priced. I’ve described their food to a friend as “man food”. That’s not to say it isn’t classy or any good for women, but the portions are large, well sauced and hearty in flavour. I appreciate that.

The coffee is generally good but, like many cafes, it does depend on who is making it. I would say 90 per cent of my coffees have been nice but they have burnt the beans on occasion and been inconsistent with the temperature. But this is only a small gripe and not enough to deter me from going or detract from the overall experience.

I’d also like to see them open a bit earlier as I have often felt like going in before work for breakfast, only to find the doors closed.

My work is close to a lot of other cafes – OE, Cafe Express, Robert Harris, Bethany’s, Moxies, The Tomato – but I always walk that extra distance to go to Marbecks.

Always friendly service, great atmosphere and good food!

Friends and I regularly go to Marbecks and we always enjoy the food! Have even celebrated a number of friends’ birthdays there!

I had a delicious cheese scone there, yesterday! Yum! Heated and with jam, nothing like it!

Another favourite – the open chicken sammie!

Totally recommend Marbecks to anyone friendly who enjoys good food and great atmosphere!

Thanks Marbecks! Keep up the hard work and see you again soon!

Marbecks is one of my favourite cafes in Palmy. The food is always really good quality and generous. Love their big gooey caramel oat slice! There’s a great range of food to choose from. But what really makes the place is the people who work there, they are awesome. Always smiling. Gets a big tick from me.

I’m from Austria and was there in August for holiday. Had an awesome burger there, it’s really huge, hardly could eat it and the taste… bah :D I want that taste again (order the marbecks burger with a egg in it, that’s like a tasteorgasm in mouth :D )

Also was there with girlfriend for breakfast sometimes, really huge and awesome portions, wish I would have known that before :D

The staff was friendly as hell (allways a smile in face), quick, and it was cheap for what I got!

And it’s a pretty cool place too, love the furniture! Seeking some tables like they got since long for home.

Allways again!

Loved it!

The worst service I have ever had anywhere. Came to listen to some live music. There were plates and glasses on the table from the previous people and they sat here on the table for an hour while staff walked by and cleared plates from surrounding tables. Asked a staff member to clear the table, she said yes but walked away and didn’t come back to clear them for another 20mins (about 10mins after she had delivered more food to the table without taking them away) and was very rude when we again said how long the plates had been there.

And we could clearly see/hear the staff behind the counter were unhappy about being asked to do their job.

Also, they couldn’t serve us beer as there was apparently no duty manager on AT 2 O’CLOCK in the afternoon on a weekend. So I orderded a Mocha which was terrible.

I will never come back and can’t stress enough how bad the service was. Will be complaining but the staff didn’t have no name badges so I’m sure it won’t go anywhere.

Appalling.

Went here for afternoon tea today, slices were nice BUT waited an eternity for our cup of tea and a smoothie. Reminded staff we still waiting for our drinks, finally got them, with no apologies for the time delay and the cup of tea was lukewarm! Not impressed and it wasn’t very busy at the time! Would choose another place next time!!!

We believe that this review was left by the mother of an ex staff member (this is according to the ex staff member themselves who at the time was disappointed by the review)

Tried to think of something nice to say, and I guess the integrated book shop would have to be it, staff were nice enough, coffee has been good then bad too risky to bother again, food below average and overpriced

I totally agree with the review written before mine. I also had to wait 55 minutes for my meal and was given two free coffee cards for my troubles. I don’t even drink coffee!

Luckily I was not there in a lunch break or I would’ve gone back to work a very hungry woman. People do not have time to be waiting that long for a simple meal – eggs benedict – I could cook that meal in quarter of the time and I’m not a qualified chef with the expectations of the food industry to comply with.

I was also told the food would only take 10 minutes to come out. If the meal is going to take an hour I believe the cafe should let you know that it’s going to take that long so you have the option of going somewhere else that’s organised enough to get their meals out in an acceptable amount of time.

Not happy and will NOT be going back, except maybe to collect my free coffees… ;-)

I do not feel waiting 50 minutes for a meal is acceptable after being told it would only take 10.
Although recieved was two free coffee vouchers we will not be back, and my partners sister now has nightmares about going back there.
