Went to Masala the other night with a friend and had a good time. The service was slightly on the slow side however. Our dishes were tasty but not standout, we asked for hot but ended up with mild. There were alot of people dining in the restaurant and this gave the restaurant a great vibe.

Would certainly eat there again, but not on the top of my list for fantastic indian.

Atrocious. Started out bad in that they did not have the beer we wanted (which was on the menu). Service was abysmally slow and when the food finally arrived both our naans were burnt and our curries (a korma and a kofta) the sauce tasted exactly the same. When we told the guy at the counter the naan was burnt there was an apology but no offer to discount.
Not good enough Masala, you used to be great!

Loved this place. Was not feeling like Indian, but due to the lack of places open in the Christmas period we were recommended this place by chef.

Loved the interior and selection of drinks available. The staff were great, the food was amazing and the price of the naan as reasonable. Have been to a few places now were the naan costs that of an entree.

Masala is one of my favourite all time restaurants and easily one of the best Indian Cuisine eateries in the entire city – even better than the solid Great India restaurant. We have been coming here for a couple years now, and the staff are very cheery, friendly and accomodating, especially if you’re a regular.

Masala is quite a popular place, and as such can be pretty busy with the lunch crowd on weekdays, and quite buzzing certain nights of the week during dinner. Anyhow, seldom does our wait for food get into the “too long” side of things, and the waiting staff are very professional and friendly when they’re bringing you your food. The food is sublime too, just awesome, top notch curries – delicious and creamy, and their naan breads are the best in the city. Fresh, soft and hot out the oven. The lunch menu is a scaled down version of the much larger dinner menu, but is also much cheaper. Delicious, high quality Indian food for $9 – talk about value for money :) The dinner curries are bigger, and more expensive – $18 or so, but don’t come with naan bread – that’ll cost extra. Both dinner and lunch are great options, but it seems like you’re basically paying twice the amount for essentially the same food – at dinner, as one of the great attributes of this place are the great prices, considering it’s the best Indian in town.

Anyway, Masala is BYO too, which is great, and handy – situated across the road from a wine store, and nearby to a Supermarket with a pretty sizeable cellar of its own. Staff are good at their jobs here, and the menu is sizable enough to not get bored of – even after a couple years – be sure to try the side order of pickle with your curry – outstanding addition.

The best Indian restaurant in town, this one tops the horrendous and bland Curry Club, as well as the awful Tulsi, and the overhyped chainstorishness of Little India, and the other two-bit operations around the capital. Professionally run, inexpensive, with a great menu, Masala reigns as king of Indian cuisine in Wellington. Do check it out. ;)

Been there a few times, each time has been very impressive. Curries served extremely quickly and taste incredibly authentic and are just delicious. Service friendly and a great atmosphere. Will definitely recommend.
