We love Master of India – the food is great, staff can’t help you enough, we always take all our friends there when they visit! Try the goat curry, best I’ve had outside of Birmingham!! Their Peshwari naan is to die for. We were advised to try the other big Indian in town as they were the best so we did but wouldn’t go back – Master of India is the best in town – don’t eat a curry in Taupo without trying them.

Wrote a massive review on the other website so will keep this one short. But really cant get over how good this guys are! Tried them twice now, dined in once and got a takeaway once. Really tasty and delicious and full of flavor and very traditional. And consistent at the same time.
I was gonna give this place a miss the first time I went there but please dont, as I am glad that I didn’t. Five stars and more.

I dined here with a large group. Was amazed that orders could be remembered without the use of a menu pad. Service was quick, nothing was a problem. Had the banquet. Best Indian meal I’ve ever had. The prawn malbari was the best!! Will definitely recommend this restaurant and can’t wait to return.
I really liked how their butter chicken was cooked. Not as red as the other restaurants and really creamy. Just how a butter chicken should be cooked.
My partner had the chef’s special which was chicken and eggplant balti and she liked it so much that she licked the bowl till she could see her face in it.
Great atmosphere and excellent service. Really recommend it if you are ever in Taupo.

I have enjoyed Master of India a few times since they opened in Taupo a couple months ago; the decor is a bit old-hat for my tastes, but I do enjoy the food. Best naan bread I’ve had in Taupo for many a year! A perfectly decent Indian restaurant in my view.
I’ll point out in response to the previous reviewer that these guys are brand new out of the gate, and did a service during the cycle-challenge weekend for the first time ever this year. I’m not surprised they were unprepared for the numbers and made mistakes, you truly don’t get it until you’ve done at least one! I don’t think it’d be fair to judge ANY restaurant in this town over the cycle challenge weekend; not when there are around 20,000 people all in town for a night looking for a feed.

Give this place a wide berth if you’re ever in Taupo. We thought we’d ’scored’ by booking a table for one of the busiest weekends in Taupo – the cycle challenge. Had a great day, 4 of us sat down to enjoy a well deserved feed and all we got was grief.
These guys have no idea how to cater to a full house. Had to ask to have our order taken, waited an hour for an entree (after being told 5 times “it’s coming” – so’s Christmas!), only 2 of our 4 entrees arrived – yep our order had never actually made it to the kitchen – watched at least 10 takeaway orders fly past us while we were waiting.
When we did finally get mains, the Butter chicken should have been renamed ‘coriander chicken’ – think they threw in a paddock full of the stuff, tasted awful. Chicken tikka and some eggplant dish were quite tasty but only enough to feed a 10yr old!!
Mum’s in the kitchen, dad’s fluffing around the restaurant doing nothing useful, son and daughter (teenagers, just), trying to wait on a whole restaurant – these guys need to find something else to create a family business as they have no idea how to run a restaurant. I feel that writing this is suitable justice after not even getting an apology from them. Want a meal in Taupo? Don’t go to Master of India – as masters they are not!

This is one of the best Indian restaurants we have been to anywhere in New Zealand, the UK and the US. The sauces are thick and layered with flavour and you get rice included for very reasonable prices. Over the last two months we have systematically ordered all the different types of curries and they are all great. If you haven’t then try the chicken bhoona and the chicken mougli, and the baltis are awesome too. The service is fast and friendly too. We are just delighted to finally have a great curryhouse in town…
