I dined at this restaurant on 19 Janurary 2012 with a group of 12 friends. We were shocked to be told from the start that for BYO, we had to at least order one main dish each as a rule to make the booking worthwhile!!!
We were also surprised to hear that rice does NOT come with each curry like most other Indian restaurants would provide and it would cost $1 extra each. I personally would rather see the price of $1 already added to the price of curry.
The service was rather slow and we had to wait for more than an hour for all the mains to arrive. Despite some people have ordered onion pakoras for entree, they arrived at the same time as mains. We each ordered the extra rice. There were 12 of us but initially they only gave us 3 tupples to share, which in anybody’s eye, it would be considered inadequate to feed 12 of us!!
I ordered chicken Tuk-a-Tuk which was promised to be moderately hot (spicy) but it turned out to be quite mild with way too much coconut cream and not much meat pieces. My friend ordered lamb vindaloo which was supposed to be hot but it was very hot.
The curries were served on hot pots with small alcohol kindles underneath which I thought was rather pretty.
On payment, I was accused of having an extra naan bread but it was actually for the person sitting diagonally opposite me who ordered it!
The wait staff were quite cold and did not seem to want to work there!
Overall, I have had a better dining experience in other Indian restaurants in Christchurch.

I always enjoy Mayur, it is good value and I have been countless times. I enjoy the food and the friendly service which adds to the nice atmosphere. I always leave feeling satisfied. I’m Looking forward to the next time.
Love this place, it’s “our” local Indian. Staff are friendly and attentive, the naan bread is out of this world and the serving sizes are just right. Very reasonably priced too. Decor is a little dark and dated, but the candles under the dishes lend a nice atmosphere. Recommend – never had a bad meal there.
Friendly Staff, Food was good and reasonably priced
been there at least 10 times and never had a bad meal. always tasty, good service, nice food.
