Most importantly the TV was off, thankfully!
Anyway we pretty much went through the menu as best as you could for a couple really gave it a good nudge.
The food was very fresh tasting and full of flavour in most parts.
My only flaw would be that we felt the pressure to order and be processed so to speak, but I guess that is just a sign of the times.
Yes I will visit again.

Beautiful food, cool ambience, friendly service. … And a tv!! Just when you thought you had it all.

We’ve already got a favourite local Thai restaurant which we always thought was going to be pretty hard to beat. However, change apparently is good for you these days so having heard such good things about Mekong’s Kingsland branch, our curiosity was piqued.
First impressions count for almost everything – if you’re put off when you walk through the door, that’s pretty much it. And I’m sorry to say that the first thing that caught my eye was the TV. Why oh why does anyone think that a TV adds to the ambiance of a restaurant. A cheap diner or sports-bar maybe, but Mekong Neua isn’t either of those, it’s a place you’d like to go to for a nice meal in comfortable and relaxed surroundings. I don’t want to be bombarded with ads and trailers while eating out. Simple message: Get rid of the TV.
If you’re able to avert your gaze from the goggle box for long enough (there are mirrors everywhere so they’ve got you from all angles!) the food and the service were both excellent – the waiters were attentive, accurate and immaculately presented. If I could change anything about the service, I’d have presented the ‘sizzling’ dishes on a sizzler or at least provided a plate warmer. By the time I was half-way through my main, the porcelain plate had drained almost all remnants of heat away.
For now, I think we’ll stick to our old favourite. If ever the mood takes us, or the unspeakable should happen and Thip Thai be shut, we may give Mekong Neua another call – but I’ll be asking if the damned TV is still there first.
