Consistently astounding customer service. Never will i step foot in this place again.

No welcoming smiles or “hellos”when we walked to the counter, the man serving us forced us to step aside as we were deciding what to order, as we stepped aside he then forced (yes, actually forced us) to sit down on the stools, as we had already chosen a table we said “no”. He then snatched the menus from us and said “well what are you getting then”.

Such a shame as this is a prime location and used to be our go to cafe when ever we were in the area.

Why work in a place where you clearly hate your job and have no sense of good customer service skills.

I went there for my birthday breakfast with my partner and I was very disappointed. My partner seemed to like his meal (french toast) but the pancakes I got were cold and our hot drinks were barely luke warm. We never got meal checked either. Definitely not going back.

I’ve been to Metropolis over 5 times during the past year, their iced coffee never fails to make me smile and I heard this is also the same for the iced chocolate. I’ve enjoyed my dish each time, except for the pancakes… Full of flour and water, totally tasteless.
The best would probably be the Thai Beef Noodles, they’re amazing! And very reasonably priced compared to some of the other restaurants on the same street.

Such a great atmosphere. This cafe is always full of patrons, despite the negative reviews I’ve read. Never had anything but good service – one waiter in particular couldn’t have been more friendly and happy to serve with great professionalism. The food is delicious – very generous helpings. Have eaten snacks to full meals and desserts and cakes – all great food that I’d totally recommend. Took a group of 7 adults a while ago and they were all very impressed with the standard of food and very reasonable prices. The cakes are great, as well as the coffees….perfect place for an evening dessert indulgence….

Very disappointed. we were a group of 10 and the service was terrible. we waited and hour for our meals that were average for the prices. Will not be recommending this place to anyone in the near future. Also we had an entertainers card that seemed to be a huge issue when it came time to pay – why be in there if you are going make an issue out of it and make the customers feel uncomfortable. Not impressed.

The hot chocolates are very yummy…the service was fast. I really like their cone chips.

Two stars are for the cheap byo arrangement and quick lunches.
Service is bad – especially the rude grumpy man who we think owns it. Dinner is inconsistent and ordinary – the byo arrangement is what saves this restaurant from extinction so we suggest you should keep that going.

I agree with many of the comments, I have been visiting for 5 years now and have seen an array of new staff throughout this time, however, it doesn’t seem to matter who they are, they are impolite and at times rude.

The quality of the food had decreased substantially and although reasonably priced, not worth my pennies. The only food worth making the effort for is the cone fries, but then again, you could get the same ones at McDonalds and at least there they would serve you real tomato sauce.

One good thing about Metropolis is the corkage fee which remains at 2-3 dollars- Un-like many other places in the city which have raised their fee to 7.

However, unless you are intending on taking advantage of the BYO and visiting this cafe with 20+ friends, I would avoid it on a Friday or Saturday night as usually, these groups take advantage of the cheap corkage and create havoc throughout the restaurant.

Average, They get a 2nd star because it is resonably priced but thats about it. I could write a huge speal about our BAD and RUDE service recieved both times we went but looks as though there’s no need other reviews say it all…

Firstly, TERRIBLE customer service, especially by one woman in particular behind the counter. I had my first dining experience here about 2 years ago where I ordered a chicken salad which was actually really good!…went to pay at the counter and said how full and satisfied i was, only to have her blatently roll her eyes at me, as to say you cant possibly be full from a salad! i felt insulted and she barely even spoke while doing the transaction.needless to say this put me off going back, for 2 years actually. I reluctantly went back there last year with a friend for coffee. woohoo got the same rude lady at the counter again. she did not even greet me, ask what i wanted to order, or tell me what my total would be! utter silence! ordered a skim coffee…she made me a full cream one, i was so offended by her attitude, that i just drank it and left. usually I would say something but I knew I’d go types of crazy on her if I did. I really hope the owners read these reviews, because the business is gonna go downhill-FAST.

Appalling…..wife & I used to go there alot and it was always good but the last time was the last time.

Ordered a medium steak, arrived well done. Pointed this out to the staff who got the manager, an extremely stroppy argumentative woman who disputed my assessment of the steak, even tho everyone in our group had agreed with me.

She ended up arguing with me at the table about it, e.g. “yes it is, no it isn’t” etc. Highly unprofessional….no offer to replace meal. After that we were ignored by staff (on her say so I would think) apart from throwing our table dirty looks every now and then, Grudgingly took the meal off the bill, but manged to make sarky comments while doing so.

Very Very poor….will not go back and have told everyone I meet to avoid this place.

I have to agree with many of the comments made on here. The food is the reason I continue to frequent Metropolis, it is really good food and very reasonably priced. Unfortunately the service is pretty average, and I certainly wouldn’t suggest going if you are on a tight schedule. But if you’re in no hurry, the coffee and food is worth it in my opinion.

service was really bad they need some customer service skills food wasn’t great I made a complaint about the pancakes and got the french toast instead which was nice but because of the service I would not go back.

been coming here for about 3-4 years now and has always been great but lately ive gotta say that the customer service has really dropped, lovely coffee and food but waitresses and guy behind counter need to pick it up a bit! please do and it would be an all around great place to visit again.

enjoyed a hot bowl of hot chocolate today (something that is becoming harder and harder to find these days)and hummingbird cake, very nice, hubby had bowl latte and baileys chocolate cake, very yummy also. service quick and efficient a++

I went to Metropolis for brunch on Sunday it was really good. The service was fantastic and the staff were very friendly. Our order was quickly taken care of and delivered to us very efficiently. The meal was lovely and I personally like that they also catered for vegetarians which can be hard to come by. Would highly recommend

The food is very well priced for the service that is on offer, when you think about it though, the place is always full over the weekend and right though the week, if your over 30 you may not think that most of the university students that are running the show are good, but when nothing is a problem and the food is cheap and nice. why would you expect silver service from a hip university cafe??

The food was great, with reasonable prices. But really none of this matters when the customer service is at the lower end of the scale.The way we were served by the waitress made us feel bad. Complaints had to be made at the end of the night.

Great for lunch, good food and generous portions. Service could be better.

The only good thing I can say about Metropolis is those chips they have. Brilliant! Though I can’t judge the rest of the their food. Never had it.

But I can’t say I like Metropolis. The place is very loud and feels cold – too much concrete and iron. Which is kind of appropriate for the staff as well. Cold. Especially that guy that is always behind the counter. Learn to smile buddy!
