The staff came over and gave us the Menu she wasn’t neither friendly nor unfriendly just average I guess. She came back a few minutes later and we placed our orders. We ordered garlic bread for entrée about 25min later the bread arrived it was warm on the outside as soon as cut it we realised it was completely frozen inside. We then waited for another 10min until the female staff returned to our table again and we told her the bread was frozen. She apologized but we had to suggest that she removed from the bill which she agreed.
At 7:50pm my meal arrived I had ordered the Salmon dish which looked ok. We then waited for another 10min until my boyfriend’s meal arrived. As soon as he looked at the meal he said it wasn’t what he ordered. He had ordered something called ‘mixed grill’ which suppose to be chicken, beef and tofu. It arrived chicken, bacon and cauliflower. He had asked to replace the rice with kumara mash and it was so hot when it arrived that he couldn’t taste it. Funny enough a few minutes before we heard the microwave sound and he said ‘ha I bet that’s my food’ and we are pretty sure he was right.
My salmon was edible so once we finished we just decided to leave immediately. I wanted to complain but my boyfriend was just too upset with the whole experience. He just ignored the lady when she asked if everything was fine with the meal and I replied it was ok.
So overall a horrible experience the worst restaurant we ever been in Dunedin and we are not going back or recommending to anyone. We spent around $25 with his meal about $7 with soft drinks (as they didn’t have a license to sell alcohol) plus the Grabone coupon which was $15. Almost $50 in a horrible meal definitely waste of our time and money.

We placed our orders. Hubby wanted blue cod which the lady wrote down, I ordered an open chicken sandwich. Couple of minutes later, she said they didn’t have the blue cod, but had the hoki instead. I would like to point out here that she said this after writing down both our orders, and not when hubby asked for the blue cod. Hubby instantly refused (he is a chef, very fussy about his fish, bread and other things!). He settled for the burger.
We had to wait for what seemed like eons. Our meals finally arrived. The presentation wasn’t the greatest (I have had better). The first thing I noticed was that my salad looked highly deflated- almost as if it had been sitting in the freezer for a week and been taken out in a hurry and sprinkled with salad dressing.
Next thing, I could not cut through the bread and the chicken. I would have needed a steak knife because my chicken was not succulent. Heck, my husband’s burger was more succulent than my rubbery chicken. Try as I might, I could not get that knife through either the bread (which was as hard as the Rosetta stone) or the chicken. I would have needed a hack saw.
Hubby thought his food was pretty basic, nothing “aha” wonderful about it.
The only thing I could eat were the chips which were nice and crispy. I had the vanilla shake and hubby had the mango shake which were good.
I must say we were really disappointed with the food. I could not believe this is the food they took so long to cook and serve to us. I’m sorry to say I cannot and will not recommend this place to anyone. Neither will I ever go back for any meals. I have never ever in my life had to look at my meal and think- “Hell no! I am not eating this anymore”.
Hence, I am not surprised the place was empty and devoid of customers the entire time we were there.

We were met nicely, we had breads and dips, Rib-eye steak medium done and stuffed pork loin on kumara mash. The food was wonderful. Great timing as far as waiting time. The meals were more than enough. The steak was as ordered, the pork was beautifully done. The service was attentive without being over the top or crowding.
I would go again. With or without Treatme. I recommend MidTown Bar and Grill. Try it for yourself!!

As if that wasn’t enough, it took us approximately 45 minutes to get our food when there weren’t even many people inside and when it came, most of the food was cold. I agree wholeheartedly with Jeremy’s review regarding the cold meal and lack of presentation. By then, we were both starving and irritated. My rib-eye steak, in particular, was not cooked properly although I specifically asked for “well done”. The fries were also soggy, and both me and my partner’s food came in small portions. This contributes greatly to my surprise when I read the previous review by wong h., who claims that “The quantity they gave is heaps. You have to be really hungry to finish the dish.” as we were really hungry and we finished everything and we were left poorer, dissatisfied and still hungry. On a hunch, I would say that review was written by the owners of MidTown themselves, judging by the poor English in both wong h.’s review and the reply to Aaron’s review.
Also, my partner was extremely disappointed with his BLT. He quipped that he felt cheated for the amount of money he paid, and also said he was glad he didn’t buy a TreatMe coupon (if I remember correctly, we saw the TreatMe coupons online which said it was $10 for an item and a drink with value up to about $25 – nothing on the menu was above $20 and that is a legal infringement of customer rights).
We also think the restaurant is short-staffed, and the manager speaks in a very condescending manner. All in all, bad food and bad service. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

The mixed grill it self was the best, My girlfriend had Mix berry pancake and she told me the pancake tasted really Yum…
I definitely will be going back even after my voucher is finished. This is my favorite breakfast place.
I Strongly recommend every one to go try.

After we finished eating, I talked to the manager and she couldn’t do anything about our invalid voucher even though she had no hard copy proof that it was used previously before and she charged me $19 for the meal. I feel blatantly cheated that I had to pay $10 for a useless voucher on top of paying full price for the meal and tea.
My other friends have also previously dined at Midtown and they have also had a negative experience.
I do not recommend dining at Midtown as the staff carelessly cross off the wrong name for the treatme vouchers. I do not suggest buying anymore treatme vouchers that they advertise in case they try and rip you off like what happened to me. I will not be going back to Midtown and I am not surprised that it is often empty when I walk past.
To the owners of Midtown – Please retain hard copies of the treatme vouchers as proof that the vouchers have been used so that this does not happen again.

To sum this up all I can say is that every time I walk past I am not surprised that it is empty.
