Amazing food, amazing value for money and LOVELY service! :) We had the kimchi tofu entree, the takoyaki, and a spicy squid and pork stirfry. The stirfry came with an assortment of little Korean delicacies to taste which were delicious!! Will definately be going back for more!

Excellent meal, service and over all experience! I came with a group of twelve, and despite warnings that meals for such a large group on a busy night may come out at different times, they were prepared quickly and came out together.
The food its self was great and provided something a little different and exciting, and we were all very happy with the price. Our waiter was friendly and engaging which added to the over all experience.
Every one had a great night and I will definitely return, and suggest it to others.

What a fantastic eating experience. In can’t remember last when I had such a fantastic meal. Between three people we shared our starters and mains…altogether 6 different taste experiences. And it’s hard to decide what was best. But I think my favourite was the moo sam starter– beef bulgogi and veggies wrapped in a thin slice if pickled daikon. I started with it and although I had more than enough to eat after three delicious shared mains, I also ended with another serving. But really, everything was incredible. The portions were huge, but we finished it all off. As for the drinks….also great. We decided not to go for any western wine or beer on the menu, but rather settle for some Korean cocktails and some Korean rice wine…which by the way is no wine at all, but as explained by the owner, more like a beer and also similar in alcohol content. A fantastic refreshing drink that went well with all the food. We will definitely visit again. And soon……

We have now dined at Miga half a dozen times and it has been perfect every time. Love the Korean BBQ and clay pots. The staff are fantastic at explaining dishes and how they are served. Really reasonable pricing, in terms of what you receive. Gorgeous fresh flavours and lovely presentation. You will not be disappointed!

We dined at Miga to catch up with friends while down for my graduation. When we booked, I didn’t know they were closed Sundays, when I realised this, I phoned them to check there had not been a mix up with dates. They said no, they were going to open especially for us so we had the restaurant all to ourselves.

The staff were very friendly, extremely accommodating, and provided great service.

The food was excellent, and great value.

The service and meal we had at Miga was so much better than the meal we had the night before at another well known Dunedin restaurant, and it was half the price.

Dining at Miga was one of the best dining experiences I have had in a very long time.

I am always impressed by Miga’s innovation, delicious food and friendly, knowledgeable staff. They even remembered that my friend was vegetarian and offered her many vegetarian options! We have had many good dinners at Miga and hope to have many more! Especially if we get to try more of the amazing tapas. The Korean BBQ option is great fun too… dinner and a show! Everything you order is excellent value for money. I cannot recommend Miga enough!

Delicious and fantastically varied menu. The staff here are so courteous and always make you incredibly comfortable. Nothing but great memories here.
The menu offers a lot of fusion between Japanese and Korean. The Korean BBQ is so delicious and provides a lot of entertainment while you enjoy yourself with friends.

I normally don’t make reviews, but this was simply the best meal out we have had in Dunedin for a long time. To say the food was excellent is an understatement. We will be back again, and soon, and will recommend this to everyone we know!

First came here after getting a voucher from Treat Me and have come back several times since. The food is usually divine — the great flavours and textures, plus diverse appetisers and authentic beers. Very friendly service and a nice atmosphere too — they’ve made the most of the building where Hanami used to. My experiences haven’t quite been perfect — I had one bad lunch experience (dry, burned rice) and the dinner menu is a little expensive. But a great, authentic Korean restaurant nevertheless.

After living in South Korea for 3 years I was always somewhat disappointed with other Korean restaurants compromising /substituting ingredients and a lack of side dishes which is a prerequisite for any real Korean restaurant.

You will not have this problem at Miga it tastes exactly like it should. 100% Authentic.
The restrooms even smell of the cleaners they use in Korea.

We went for dinner with a group of friends (~12people in total). The host had to keep going downstairs to look for the owner to ask them to bring out the food as we were all getting really hungry and had been waiting for at least an hour from the time we booked the table for. The host was informed through phone and face-to-face conversations prior to the event that there would be free-flowing salads and meat enough to feed all the guests. However, the salads we got were only lettuce, some onions and carrots. The meat was not even enough for all the guests. Let alone, the owner was informed numerous times prior that there would be a guest who requires gluten-free meal. Throughout the whole night, the guest barely had much food to eat and we had to constantly ask the waitresses whether the food brought out was gluten-free or not. In the end, the guest had to eat a small plate of pork with white rice and nothing to add to it. We had to request personally for gluten-free sauces or something to go with the white rice, how sad is it to see a guest eating a bowl of white rice with nothing to go with it? Halfway through dinner, the waitress came up to us to ask how many “special requirements” are there as the kitchen staff got confused. That annoyed us all a bit as we had been questioning them the whole night about it, and had already informed the owner prior to the event and during the event before the food were dished out too. I don’t think this is fair that the guest got charged $25 set menu for something that little. It was the set menu recommended by the owner (who told the host that the set menu will mean faster dishing out of food with better deal – which proved otherwise), and it did not meet what he made it sound like it was meant to.

When it was time to bring out the cake, the owner did not only make it awkward by bringing another table’s cake out at the same time. He even had that waitress bringingMore the cake for that other table sing happy birthday for them, and he did not sing for our table. Furthermore, he made it even more awkward when he said to our table “I am not going to sing!” He placed the cake in the middle of the table, which was nowhere near the birthday girl, which is quite disappointing service really. He then passed the knife to one of the host’s guests and asked him to cut the cake. It didn’t put a nice end to the dinner for us all.

In addition, the host was also informed that there would be constant top-up of side dishes. He told the host what side dishes would be provided, but they were apart than the ones he mentioned. It was quite disappointing.

Apart from these, the restaurant does have a nice atmosphere. I just wish the owner had provided better services and kept to his words as per recommendations prior to the event.

My wife and I went to Miga for the first time with family visiting from Perth. It was our 2nd time and their 1st time at a Korean BBQ restaurant. The service was excellent and attentive, without being pushy. Our waiter was well versed in the detail of the menu and was able to enthusiastically explain the items we were interested in. The food was fresh and flavorsome. I had the Moo-Ssam entree, which was delicious. For my main I had Kimchi-Jjigae, which was enjoyable but not entirely to my taste, which is not a reflection on the quality of the dish. The others tried a variety of dishes and thoroughly enjoyed their meals. We were all full by the end of the evening.

We will certainly being going back.

Went there for lunch yesterday and had the Korean BBQ. Wasn’t sure what to order, what to do, but the manager/owner was absolutely brilliant in suggesting things, how to go about mixing the dishes together and what each dish was. The BBQ came with appetisers, the meat to cook and a great assortment of side dishes which were replenished free of charge. We had a brilliant experience the food was great but best of all were the staff, so friendly and helpful, would recommend it to anyone and will be back with friends.
thank you.

I went to Miga for a birthday function after hearing about them from friends. At first I was a bit skeptical, as we thought the price range of 25-35 dollars seemed high.
But after experiencing the place for ourselves, we found it to be a great dining experience. Even though we had a large group, the service was friendly and efficient, and the staff really seemed to go out of their way to make us feel comfortable and satisfied with our dining experience.
The banquet menu which cost us 30 dollars per person, came with a delicious assortment of food including 2 appetisers each with their own unique flavour, and a large variety of meats for the bbq along with a heap of different side dishes to share, provided us with so much food that we were all completely full by the end of the night, leaving only a smidgen of room for their delicious mochi icecream with plum sauce. They also made great recommendations for drinks also, and I am keen to return to try a few more of the yummy asian style cocktails!
Thanks for a great night miga team, you’ll be seeing a lot more o me in the future :)

My husband and I have had lunch several times at Miga and the Korean BBQ dinner in the evening. The lunch and dinner menus are different. The $10 lunch is really superb value and the BBQ dinner a really fun thing to do. We went with our 7 year old for the evening meal and the staff were friendly and helpful and offered to make him a half portion for his order.
The staff really go out of their way to make sure everything is to your satisfaction and the food is delicious :)
If you are not familiar with Korean food ask the staff for a recommendation and I am sure you won’t be disappointed.
Well done Miga!

We went with a treat me voucher to Miga, wow!!
The service was outstanding and informative without being belittling or condescending. We could not find fault with the service. We had vege wraps and takiyori – Amazing!. The pork and squid as our mains that we cooked were great and with sooo many side dishes to add. The kimchi pancake was yum. 10 out of 10 in our opinion and would absolutely recommend this place and will definitely return to MIGA!!
Thank you Richard and staff.

The service was excellent. The ambiance of the place was very good. But the food was just not delicious. I was wondering why they used thinly sliced radish instead of chinese cabbage or something like that to wrap the sam gyup sal. The taste of the radish just overpowered the taste of the fresh pork and soybean paste. After 3 bites, it became sickening to eat. The pork itself was yum. The kimchi chigae was disappointing as well. I didn’t even know that they put mushrooms in it? That ruined the taste for me. Last thing we ordered was the bulgogi. It was just not delicious. What was supposed to be a really yummy and pleasant dish, was just bad. It had too much pepper and most of the dish was onions. 60 dollars later, I was just severely disappointed and felt ripped off. If I had no knowledge or no exposure to Korean cuisine, I might find it passable. I will not eat in this restaurant again. I have tasted better Korean food. Service and ambiance cannot be faulted though.

Like a number of the other people who have written a review we also used a deal voucher. Richard and the other staff that served us were extremely pleasant and informative and the food was delicious and plentiful. In addition to the mains we each had lovely entrees which were good value at $8. The we had the Bar-B-B steak and chicken with the vegetables and all the side dishes which just seemed to keep coming.

The whole meal and ambiance was a good experience and the restaurant is a great addition to the Dunedin scene. We will certainly return.

Well done to the owners and staff. Good luck.

I’m Korean. But have lived in a couple of countries.
And always tried to find good Korean restaurant.
I guess all Korean restaurants in foreign countries have a dilemma between keepin traditional style and westernised or fusion style, so its very hard to find really great one.

Obviously Miga has the solution for those questions.
All side dishes that are kind of complimentary dishes if you order main menu, are definite Korean style but their choices are good for everyone in the world.
Korean BBQ is bloody Korean style either, but they introduce lots of cooking methods and marinated meat menus for western or westernised Asian customers like my girlfriend.

And I really really surprised their salad.
The salad doesn’t even in the menu, kind of complimentary dishes if you order Korean BBQ main meal.
I guess there are 4 or 5 kinds of vegetables in the salad.
Can’t even write on here, because there is no English word for explaining those vegetables appropriately.
And sauce is perfect too.

so i cant handle my curiosity when i tasted the salad, so i asked the staff, hes the business owner and Korean.
and his parents have a farm, and its 100% organic one, so that they can give me the perfect Korean salad.
i have been in Aussie and NZ for 4yrs but never seen those vegetables, just saw in Korea for a long time ago.

so i cant help to recommand all the people as many as possible. even if their dishes ain’t so good for you, at least your stomach would be happy because I’m entirely sure all their dishes are based on their 100% organic vegetables.

Awesome Awesome Awesome! We had the Korean BBQ and because I was unfamiliar with Korean food the lovely waitress explained each dish. Every staff member we met was passionate and friendly. The food was DELICIOUS, fun and had generous portion sizes. It was great to try a little bit of everything. We left with full tummies and massive smiles! We highly recommend this restaurant!!!

We purchased a voucher off Treat Me and thought we would give it a go as it wasn’t our usual sort of restaurant. At the last minute we ended up inviting friends to join us making a group of 6. The staff were fantastic, so friendly and helpful. We did the Korean BBQ which meant we got to cook all our meat and veges at the table so we each ordered a different meat. That way we got to try everything. (Pork, chicken, different cuts of beef, marinated and plain) They also had seafood but we didn’t try this.

It was outstanding to say the least – so much fun and very social.

We got two appetizers each to start (all part of the BBQ deal) followed by our meats and a heap of side dishes, sauces, rice, and salad. They also replaced any sides that we ran out of during the meal which was great.

It is about time Dunedin had a place like this and I am so looking forward to returning.

Just as an update we have been back 3 times with friends and family and every time has been as good as the last and we will continue to enjoy. It is so good to see the other great reviews on here. We have recommended this restaurant to friends who have tried and raved about it also.
