I love this restaurant. The food is Delicious, it’s spicy and flavoursome without being too hot. The curries are light and fresh and are way better than the usual heavy, hot, bland creamy curries found in most Auckland Indian restaurants. The decor is nice and low key too and the staff are friendly.

This was another experience where there is not enough staff on for the number of patrons at the venue. There was only 2 staff on, and one of those only would set and remove plates off the table. When we tried to get a second round of drinks, we waited for about 10 mins for a waitress to come near our table and then when one did, she said she did not take orders! We ended up leaving as we could not get another drink for our table. The food was ok but not outstanding. A shame.

I took my family to Moksha last night, and wasn’t sure what to expect having seen the last few reviews regarding their service. However, we were pleasantly surprised. The service was a tiny bit slow (particularly one of the waiters, who a looked a bit lost the entire night) but overall the service was friendly and attentive. As for the food, it was delivered quickly and it was all very nice and well presented – curries, naans, drinks and desserts. We certainly enjoyed our night at Moksha and would not hesitate to recommend it.

On arrival the resturant has a nice atmosphere, looked busy but not to busy so first impressions were good. Once seated we waited half an hour for a waitress to come back (they were not busy – three of them stood behind the bar and watched everyone) from here we ordered drinks and continued to wait just to order our meals. We ordered startes – which took long enough to come out. From the time we were seated to the when our Main Meal was brought to us we waited 2 hours. We were not asked if we would like anything further to drink or if our meals were ok once we got them. Was very disapointed with the service of this retaurant and will not be returning. The Meals were good, not worth the wait so will not be recommending to anyone. Improvement required.

Bad service. We had a table of ten dine in, our drinks order was not taken and random drinks came out instead. When we asked if they had sparkling water, the waitress said yes and walked away, not coming back until bringing out the meals. We asked again to order sparkling water and she came back a while later and said, there was no sparkling water. When paying, they had no $10 notes or many coins so many of us couldn’t pay properly. No apologies. We thought – we are never coming back. Yesterday, we decided to get takeaways (this might make the experience better) but it didn’t. We ordered at 12.40 for a 1.15 pick up. 11 meals. We got there at 1.15 and were told to sit down, we had to ask how long the wait was and she said “ten minutes” (this is the same waitress as last time). We got our meals at 1.45. No apologies. The chef put in free naan but there were still no apologies from the waitress. The whole time we sat waiting, we had no updates and had to ask. This was terrible service. The food is nice but not worth the wait, particularly if it is your work lunch hour! I would have given this place a 4 – 5 star before this waitress and when they still had the beer in the meal deal. Down hill :(

Have been for lunch many times with the lunch deal proving to be great value. Well that’s not quite true anymore. The last two times the service is really slow (20mins to get beers delivered) and the naan is yuk (microwaved and leathery). The rice and curry were good but that will be the last time I eat there now they’ve taken the beer out of the special, taken away the salad and now served microwaved naan. For me it’s no thanks as the Punjabi palace offer the same deal but put more care into their cooking.

The food is excellent however the service and speed need definite improvement.
We went for dinner on Tuesday night and it took them over an hour for the food to come out..! Around the 30 min mark, we asked how much longer we would have to wait and they just said “shortly” but took another half an hour!

We saw two men leave after they got sick of waiting, and one table ordered before us but they still didn’t receive their food when we finished eating..!

We were almost ready to leave but after much agony we received our food. We ordered 4 mains and they only gave us one bowl of rice and had to ask multiple times for more rice to have with our mains… Thee food was delicious but I am not sure I would be prepared to wait such long times again…!

With heaps of Indian Restaurants in AKL it is a supreme effort on the Chef and servers to create a stand-out. Congratulations for delivering a consistent, authentic, atmospheric and fair priced dining experience. The Lamb Dosa is the best I have eaten outside of India and the entrées are unique, flavourful and divine. The desserts are impeccable too. Looking forward to another top drawer dining experience. Thank you for bringing the culinary treats of India to NZ. We hope you open a second location near Tauranga.

Moksha is one of the best restaurants in Auckland. Usually in Indian restaurants they do creamy sauce and named it as curry, to taste the really curry of the south we need to go to Moksha. The place is awesome and maintained well. To enjoy a great evening everyone should try Moksha….

Heard of Moksha thru a friend so thought shall give it a try. So grabbed my trusty Indian friend for some Indian feed. I was pleasantly surprised by a dynamite welcome by the chef himself…He asked my friend where he was from and cooked our meals in a specific style (my friend’s home state Kerela style).
We had Prawn curry, Chicken curry, Garlic naan, Biriyan and Kulfi.

I vote for the freshness and my friend for the authentic flavor.
The Chef also taught me a very simple technique to eat with my fingers…whereas all my Indian friends have failed so far!! Three cheers to the chef!!!

I am for sure going back for more…

Hi, Nope to the food, very South (Madrasi) Indian and north indian mix. Curries are tooo creamy and thick. you cant taste meat but only only spices. Salad is quite cheap and same all the time. I might go for a beer but not food tooo rich and unhealthy. why cheff is out all the time greeting customers and shaking hands with people. Very disturbing??????

I can only agree with the other reviews and then some. I have eaten indian food all over the world (including India) and this is up there amongst the best.

Dishes can be modified to suit your taste and, unlike most other indian restaurants in Auckland, it isn’t greasy.

Please go and I promise you won’t be dissappointed. I am just surprised the place isn’t always packed.

The best Indian I have tested n Auckland.
This even beats Satya which was my favourite.

This was recommended by a friend and I will come back again and recommend this to anyone.

Great selection, great flavours and a great service.

Just don’t tell too many people so that it doesn’t get too busy.

Amazing food! Great service. Best Indian I have had in Auckland city. The menu is full of exquisite, typically Indian dishes that have been long forgotten by a majority of Indian restaurants in Auckland. Chef Rao really takes pride in what he creates, maybe thats the secret to great tasting curries! Highly recommended!!

Since I was introduced to this place by a friend, I celebrated my birthday at Moksha and my office Christmas dinner to Moksha as well. The reasons:

Firstly, the food is actually good – with great authentic variety in starters as well.

Then there is the customer service and ambiance. In short, Moksha sets up the evening perfectly for one to sit back, enjoy good food and have fun.

Moksha offers good food by good people. Their buffet for $10 is a bargain.

The food tilts towards South Indian flavours which are quite a change from the five standard mains you find everywhere!

Need to try those tandoori scallops on the menu.

this is one of the few indian restaurants in auckland which doesn’t serve new-zealandised indian food. so if you are keen to venture away from butter chicken you will enjoy this place… from the onion bhaji to the paneer to the halwa – everything was delicious.

very friendly service too.

i’m glad this place was recommended to me as i might not have stumbled across it otherwise – i’ll definitely go back.

Without a doubt this is the best Indian food that I have ever eaten!

I’ve eaten a lot of Indian with all the usual suspects but this food was really authentic, absolutely delicious and I could hardly stop myself was absolutely stuffing my self with the myriad of delicious treats.

Especially good were the Paneer tikka masala and the beautiful parfait style dessert.

I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to recommend Moksha to ANYONE and I will definitely be going back.

I was stunned by the sublime flavours in every dish. These chefs are simply amazing.
It was like experiencing a degustation dinner, Indian style.

Encouraged by other people’s recommendations about the culinary prowess of the chefs here, I bravely strayed away from my usual faves ‘tikka masala’ and ‘palak paneer’ . . . and asked the helpful man in charge what he would recommend for me to try.

The most incredible mouth-watering dishes arrived, and my brothers and I fought over every last morsel!

After being so stunned by the flavours of the mains, I ventured to a dessert. A thing called kulfi, I think – kind of like icecream, but not as sweet or rich, and way more flavoursome. I had no idea Indian desserts were so yum!

Flavours. What an experience.
