4 girlfriends and I went to this restaurant last night. After having waited 20 minutes to be asked for drink orders we decided to order food at he same time as they were obviously very busy. Starters were lovely but we then waited 1 hour and 20 minutes for our mains. We were not approached in this time to apologise for the wait or to be offered any more drinks. When we asked how much longer our food would be the waitress was polite and it came pretty soon after. We enjoyed the food very much but by this time we were very hungry! When asked how our meal was we did say we were a little unhappy with the waiting time and the portion sizes could be bigger. The manager apologised about the time but said the food was gourmet and that’s why there isn’t much of it. After us hinting quite a bit about them fixing the problem we were offered free deserts. A this time we had waited long enough and declined. We asked if maybe she could take the drinks off the bill or similar which would have been minimal cost to them. She refused and said 10% off the bill which we accepted and we asked for the bill. After waiting another 20 minutes for the bill and watching the staff talk about us behind the counter we had to go up and ask for it again. By this point we were upset and I mentioned again how unhappy we were with the service. This turned into a heated discussion and eventually the male manager told us to “just f#*ck off”. This is the worst dining experience I have had in my life. I have never been treated so badly and will never go back. I will endeavour to tell as many people as I can to stay away.

First of all I would like to sincerely apologise again for not being able to deliver your meal in an acceptable time frame. As I can understand how upset and unsatisfied you and your friends were with your dining experience from your review, I really regret that…    More »

Ordered takeaways which were good, the salmon and prawn pizza was fabulous. Also ordered filled cannelonni were ok, but different from a traditional styled version, as they were curry flavoured. (Curry doesnt belong in italian food -would be nicer with lemon rind). Would go back again as the pizza and wedges were awesome.

Lovely atmosphere and great, friendly staff who were attentive but not pushy. I had the prawn and spaghetti meal, and this was able to change to be non-spicy for me, which was fantastic. Felt some of the prices were a bit price, especially the steak and chicken fillet, but I will be returning to try out one of their delicious looking pizzas.

Went to Monkey Spices in Rolleston last night – first time for me but the other two people I was with had been there before. I was impressed with the lovely food, the service and the reasonable prices. The wait staff were absolutely lovely ::: friendly and helpful and doesn’t a smile go a long way.

There was another friend out in the car, Jake and he loved the left over spaghetti and meatballs and thanks Monkey Spices for the extra treat. Will definately dine there again.

We have been to Monkey Spices a number of times. The food is always fresh and delicious. There is an eclectic range of food that appeals to our family of five. The kids love the pizza and pasta dishes and the Asian twist of dumplings and salads are superb. The staff are polite and the service is great! Thanks

Went to Monkey Spices for the first time last night. For such a small and unassuming restaurant, it certainly delivered. The staff were friendly and helpful, the service was prompt and the food was delicious! My family only had pasta dishes, but the pizza’s looked very yummy, so they will be on the menu for next time.
I will definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends, and I’m sure it will become a regular place for dinner.

Very good food and awesome wait staff who were excellent at helping us with deciding our meal and were in general very lovely and pleasant. Congratulations on finding such awesome waitresses! They had an excellent range of wines andfood but we loved that we could BYO. Delicious pizzas and pasta which were not over priced but rather very resonable, Thank you for a great evening out :)

Truly amazing we didn’t know where to go for tea, so got on google and found Monkey Spices, We had two wood fired pizzas, a pasta dish, huge serving of wedges and three bottles of drink, the five of us were full and it only cost us $69, also all of the staff were super friendly and prompt

We were pleasantly surprised by this unassuming little restaurant in a shopping area in the suburbs. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. On a Friday evening it was pretty full, but not crowded. The waitresses were very friendly and personal. Because of a longer wait for the food than usual (half an hour) we were given complimentary dumplings that were delicious. The pizza (vegetarian) was the best pizza I have ever had in New Zealand, a light crust and the toppings just right. The salad (just a simple Italian salad with vinegrette sauce) was equally delicious. The pork my husband ordered was a bit fat (but then, what do you expect from pork – says the vegetarian, ha). The cappucino to top it all off was again a REALLY good cappucino, those guys at Monkey Spices know about Italian coffee!! For the price range (pizza only $17 and the pork – their special of the evening – only $12) I have to give 5 stars. Oh, and an added bonus is the BYO wine.
This little restaurant has got us hooked.

The service here was good but the food was dreadful. The wedges were pale and floury and needed more than just sour cream. My partner had a vegetarian pasta that was way, way to sweet for a tomato based pasta and my honey mustard chicken was too sweet, had too little chicken and there was way to much of the sickly sauce. Would not go back.

Thank you very much for your honest review. I am extremely disappointed that you and your partner did not enjoy our food. Both Napoli and Honey mustard chicken pasta should not taste too sweet at all. I took your review very seriousely and followed up with our…    More »
