My family of five enjoyed a great meal at the Mount today and thought we would treat ourselves to a gelato ice-cream.
We entered and there was only one customer being served by one young girl.
She was touching her face, wiping her nose with her hand prior to picking up a waffle cone with her unhealthy fingers, wrapping a serviette around it then scooping the ice cream. She hands the customer her ice-cream and then took the money handing back change to the customer….. and then was moving onto us.
One of our family reluctantly ordered an ice cream so she then goes over again and puts her fingers into the waffle cone, picks it up and then puts a serviette around it! Just to be a little more hygenic why not just have the cones tipped upside down and grab the cone with the serviette??
I was watching this and reluctant to buy one, but then I saw another young girl come in from the street, dump her personel items to the side/back room, wipe her fingers around her face and asked me what I wanted.
Well, GOOD HYGIENE when handling food would be great!! She did not venture anywhere near water to wash her hands prior to starting her shift. Had she been out walking the dog, smoking….. the mind boggles.
No more ice-creams for this goup of five and we left, without four ice-creams.
So our overall experience today was……unfriendly staff and staff who have absolutely no idea of what is required in the food industry they are serving in.
I intend contacting the Tauranga Council on Monday as this is an unacceptable level of food handling standards.

Always love the gelato… Sadly the two teenage girls were too busy talking to serve…really rude…

Ok Gelato this place has award winning gelato so you must go and try. I am hooked and live an hour away but make the trip over to have a Gelato when the urge gets the better of me. I love the Berries and White Chocolate and also the Salted Caramel is a must if they have it in stock. Also I can never resist the Mr Snickers. This product is divine and an absolute must when you are in Mount Maunganui beach side.
