I love going here for a casual meal or drinks after work – its hustle and bustle provides an interesting ambiance – if you attend on a quiz night but are not taking part you inadvertently find that you are guessing all the answers anyway!

Love the food – nice and simple (well, the ones I order) and a good price.

Wait service sometimes is a bit slow but always friendly and if there is a problem I have always found that they will provide a resolution.

I made the mistake of going to the Supply Room last night (Tuesday the 18th of Feb) -firstly it was quiz night, the management obviously could not organise their staff appropriately and we were told not to expect a “waiter” to come out to our table, there was no offer to supply us with a drinks menu – apparently there are none? So a large group of us had to order at the bar – which would not have been an issue if the service was competent / or even friendly, but it was quite the opposite, the staff are rude and uninterested, simple tasks such as splitting the cost of a bottle of wine by three is apparently “rocket science”. My friends who ordered cocktails had to wait over an hour to get them – no apology was given, instead the “manager” made a lame excuse about the usual guy not being there, so he had to do them – I suggest that if he is a bar manager incapable of making a drink he should make arrangements to work in another industry? My friend who ordered a ranch salad with dressing on the side got a salad, but was told there was no ranch dressing, had the salad plonked in front of her and then the staff member just walked off whilst being asked a question about what was actually all over the salad…. I will not be returning in a hurry / ever. It is a shame as the food I had was actually alright, but the staff and the service were so incredibly bad that it wouldn’t matter how good the food was – my money is better spent else where.

Went to The Supply Room for lunch with our family. Must say the food was lovely. When we walked into the restaurant, we got a very poor reception…service was very slow….the cutlery was plonked in front of us in a beer jug…even when I went and paid the bill I thought the girl was very rude….I see a lot of the reviews are about the rude staff and bad service….
I suggest staff training should be on the menu.

I ordered the “fresh” Gurnard dish (from the sea). I was expecting a beautiful ‘fresh’ Gurnard fillet. What I received was a jumble of fingerling pieces of fish which were tasteless and certainly did not taste or look fresh. The saffron, dill, butter sauce looked like bile poured over the tasteless fish and mash of potato. The beans were barely blanched let-a-lone cooked for eating, nor had they been properly top and tailed.

The young lady who served us was very pleasant and gave efficient and attentive service. I was reluctant to comment on the meal to the young girl because she was so pleasant and also did not wish to embarrass my daughter.

I found the quality of the meals was sadly lacking after previously experiencing excellent cuisine when the restaurant was called Monteiths. I’m reluctant to return.

I have now been to the Supply Room three times, and have been served by the same sour faced young woman, who treats you as though you were a total nuisance. If the coffee were good (or even passable) I might be able to look past the poor service………. I couldn’t bring myself to drink today’s offering. Safe to say I will never go there again, I prefer coffee to tar, and a smile to a snarl.

The worst customer service I have ever received! Sent back my dessert due to disparity in size in comparison to others in a large group. The owner then returned to the group, shouting out who was it that complained about the desserts, then came to me with the desserts stating there was no difference, embarrassing me in front of other diners. Then after a private conversation with him, his excuses continued, from stating I embarrassed his waitress by sending the food back, and still not admitting to there being a problem with size….. He continued to be defensive, and although he apologised still disagreed with me! And the final insult, having to pay the full bill! Would NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone! Highly disappointed!

So Mark, in response to your response..
1). To ascertain who had made the complaint, you should have brought the waitress back with you and been discreet about it, however you choose to make a big performance of it
2) I was very polite in my feedback about the dessert, if she was intimidated then perhaps she is not right for the job
3) actually I only had a couple of mouthfuls of the replacement
6) hmmm, yes others felt the same however, after the performance you put on, were not willing to complain

You are astounded that I placed this? Really?! Well it seems, mine is not the only negative feedback you have received. I am also surprised that my to the point, professional feedback on your Facebook page has been deleted. If you are not willing to take ownership and bad feedback for this, then that is up to you.

Normal practice is best to not respond to this type of criticism publicly, but for an issue that seems so blown out of proportion to even be put into the public arena has sadly meant a break in protocol To work through these: 1. I did not shout, why would…    More »

We, a group of nine dined here last night. We were the only ones at the front, but the noise level was almost unbearable from the rest of the place. Service wait was acceptable. I ordered surf and turf and asked if I could swap my salad for the veges. The waitresses ummed and ahhhed about it and said I would be charged extra. A friend asked for gluten free options and was told only fish and vegetarian. She wanted a steak without the jus but was told this couldn’t happen. Apparently it was a new menu from yesterday and we couldn’t alter anything. We were there over an hour before I asked for water and was given a dirty glass that hadn’t even been in the dishwasher. My entree Asian calamari was very bland. No taste and cold. My steak was as tough as old boots and I struggled to cut through it. However a majority of the group ordered pork belly and said it was beautiful. I didn’t go for dessert but was told the panacotta was amazing. It looked nice. Would I go back! Probably not for the price of the meals. Also the menus are ridiculous on a big clip board and having nine of us, we couldn’t see each other over them. They do have a good extensive menu but I was disappointed.

Hired the upstairs room for a special ‘big birthday’ celebration and Kate from The Supply Room was absolutely brilliant with the organisation, food selection and staffing of the event. In the end, we had just under 50 people attending and everyone had a great time with only highly complimentary things to say about the food and venue. The warm breads, ham and mustard was superb!! Many thanks to Kate and the team!

Came here for lunch last week and thought the the ‘new look’ was more welcoming! Staff were more than happy to help out! Would definitely come back for lunch again sometime.

Second time in a handful of weeks we’ve been told a menu would be brought right over to us and we’ve waited well over an hour – over an hour and a half last night before we walked out!! Have been coming to this place for years – purely because of the slim pickings in the area – and even though a couple of the staff are great the others continue to let it down. Since the ‘new look’ not only has the service not improved – its worse. We feel more like we’re interrupting the social lives of the staff/owner than popping into the local for a beer and a catch up. Talk about complacency – roll on the opening of Whitby Monteiths!!!!

I’m just paying a visit to our capital. Decided to come here for a bit of lunch. Was impressed with the idea that they had made a cocktail which $1 would be donated to the breast cancer foundation. Asked what the pink cocktail was and got told “I don’t know the girls made it up”. Ok I’ll have a beer then.
Service didn’t improve after that, mainly being totally ignored and then had 2 staff members sit near by and bitch about customers. What ever happened to service with a smile and being gratefully employed?

We dined there last night. We had been to Monteith’s a couple of times before although this time it wasn’t my choice to go (staff do). We had been there for about 25 mins before our drinks order was taken and then it was another 15 minutes before out meal order was taken. Granted it was a Friday night and I understand it’s usually a busy time but still it was slack service. After forgetting some of the drinks orders we waited about 25 mins for our meals. The meals are really bland at Monteiths. Five of us had chicken burgers and they were pretty substandard. 2 had the pork belly which wasn’t to bad but the serving size for both dishes didnt seem equal. Desserts were horrid. I’ve watched enough cooking programmes to know that a brulee is suppose to have a crutchy topping, it also tasted like Brylcreem!. We also had the trifle which wasn’t to bad we were just surprised at how small it was. Seriously wont be going back here again the food isn’t nice, and they stuffed up a friends 30th birthday booking last year which saw her having to find alternative location within 2 days after they had doubled book. I hear Monteiths are having a week closed in June (for reasons I cant say) maybe they could revamp their menu and change the chefs.

My second time here, to give it another chance, but unfortunately they stuffed it up, again.

First visit was for lunch, my partner and I walk in the door and the first thing we are addressed with was “Can I see some ID.” When this little girl went away to check if they were still doing lunch, we walked out. A paying customer should NEVER be treated like that, absolutely disgusting.
Second time I came here was on a Tuesday night. This was their quiz night. We had made a booking for 20 people, for a Grandmothers birthday. On the phone a staff member went to check that it would be ok to have that many people, which apparently it was and we’d have the whole upstairs function room.

Why did they lie? They were not able to accommodate that many people. All the staff were in a bad mood, I didn’t see anyone smile, not even once. We had to walk downstairs to order our own drinks; we waited for our meals for over an hour from order. Most distressing was a younger family member who was really hungry and tired with the long wait. Her order was some sausages and mash, which was asked to come out early, twice, but came approximately 15 minutes before our meals, PIPING hot which made it too late, they had to leave, and the staff decided to come upstairs looking for money for the child’s’ meal and fathers’ meal which he never got to eat.
No respect for anyone else’s requirements.

I am honestly shocked with this poor service. Why should we have to go downstairs and ask for our own water for the table? Is that not a standard procedure?
I understand the place was busy as it was quiz night, but why not say that on the phone? Why say it would be fine so we come in and have to endure 3+ hours of waiting around?
And a small article about the food; I had the antipasto platter which was fine, some people had chicken burgers which were dry, and the chips were incredibly soggy.

Moral, don’t go here unless you don’Moret care about being treated like a human being.

This was the only time I have ever walked out from a restaurant. Firstly my family (4 of us) turned up for dinner just after 6pm and although the place was busy there were still 3 tables not full or reserved (2x 4 seats and 1x 2 seats). We waited at the sign saying “please wait to be seated”, (in full view of the bar staff) and saw at least 2 staff acknowledge us but do nothing. 2 other groups arrived after us and waited behind us for 10-15 minutes until a lady in the 2nd group decided to walk up to the bar and ask to be seated at which time her group were then shown to a table and then the staff seated the other group behind us, even though we were first in the line waiting!. At this time my wife asked for us to be seated and was told they had no tables free however we could wait in the bar. My wife advised her of her having seated the 2 groups before us and the girl just shrugged her shoulders. At this time we decided to leave. I have eaten at this restaurant on a fairly regular basis with work colleagues (from out of town) and friends during the lunch period however I don’t believe I will be giving any future endorsements to this restaurant which unfortunately tarnishes the Monteiths good name.

I’ve had mixed experiences here. Service from the younger female staff has always been below average leaning towards non existent. Pate was very yummy. Cheese platter had to be returned as gluten free bread was not on the plate as requested. Dad enjoyed his pork belly but my fish was quite bland. Service is definitely best before 5!

I have been to my local Monteiths in Paraparaumu many times and thoroughly enjoyed the food and service. Unfortunately Monteiths in Mana did not meet my expectations.
The service was really slack, we had to ask twice before being given menus and had to go to the bar to get drinks and ask for our order to be taken as the table service was almost nonexistent.
The food was average, I had the fish and chips, the salad was just lettuce mix and very wilted with no dressing and the fish wasn’t fresh. The other meals were ok, although three of the five meals arrived five minutes before the other two.
I won’t be going back to this restaurant.

Members of our social club and I went to this bar on Friday 27 Jan 2012. We’ve had good evenings here before and they didn’t disappoint this time.

I got there first at 6pm. It was very busy. I hadn’t made a booking but the staff were very accommodating and found a table we could use until the next booking at 7.30pm (we finished at 7.23pm).

I had sausages and mash – one of my favourite meals. I got three huge sausages on a bed of soft mash and lovely thick onion gravy. Another of our party had fish and chips and got three sizable pieces of fish and loads of chips.
I found my meal to be very filling and, although tempted, I just couldn’t find space to try the dessert menu.

Other positives were that the staff were suitably attentive without being intrusive and the location of the bar with lots of parking (if you get there early enough) makes it a great place for us to go to. We’ll no doubt be back.

I brought my family to Monteiths Paremata on Wednesday 27th July 2011 for dinner.
We have been here a number of times in the past, but probably not for about a year. We were really quite disappointed this time. My sisters Fish was raw and had to be returned. My Chicken was dry and not very tender. My brother inlaw complained that the steak was tough, and my husband was not that impressed with his burger. We have been in years passed very impressed with our meals, so it was a real disappointement for us on this occasion. Can not complain about staff service, they were very good. Not sure if we will come again.

Had a superb meal. The chef had obviously given some thought to the vegetarian option, not your usual vege pasta. I had a delicious lentil soup with lemon cream (much better than it sounds), and the polenta stack with artichoke, mushroom, and capsicum salsa was beautiful. My partner had the duck terrine for starters, and the pork, which was cooked to perfection. Would recommend.

I’ve been there several times before and after the ownership change, and have been very unimpressed with the restaurant since the management/chef change. The bar staff and friendly, and bar and table service is pretty good – it’s just the food quality I’m talking about.

Even the “kids eat free” special is not enough to make me return until I hear the chef has changed.

Seriously, you’d cook better yourself at home.

Popped in for a drink and decided to have lunch. I ordered the chicken salad and it was heavenly. The presentation was amazing and had everything described on the menu was on the plate….. And even arrived without dressing which I asked. This has been one of the best chicken salads I have ordered. My hubby had the paua fritters and he enjoyed those. Lots of paua in them which he was happy with. The pricing was excellent and we will definately be going back

This is not your steriostypical pub, affordable food, suprisingly family friendly. waiters are awesome and very good with kids. Nice area out the back for drinking, and a very comfortable smoking area.
we have been there twice now once with children and once without and both times we were taken care of very well, would recommend to anyone, food is well presented and tastes great, recommend the big boys steak and eggs and the spinach and bacon pasta. Kids meals are taken to a whole new level and presented with as much professionalism as the adult mains. fantastic wine and beer selection. cant wait to eat there over summer and enjoy the sea view over dinner.
