Went there a couple of nights ago with 3 friends and all agreed on not going back, all for different reasons.
Food is quite common with no attention to details at all. It would be ok if it wasn’t for the price.
One of us got the haloumi salad, which basically was a salad with 2 small pieces of burnt haloumi fighting each other. I took the duck salad which is a warmed confit leg too salty thrown on a salad.
Fries are so-so as well, and were not warm enough.
If you absolutely want to try a Monteith’s Bar, I recommend the one in Paremata. Had dinner several time there and was never disappointed.

The seafood orgasm is dismal. Shrimp cocktail is a few pieces of shrimp in a glass filled 3/4′s with lettuce. Everything else in this meal was deep fried. If I wanted a deep fried meal I would visit my local fish and chippie. Everyone else seemed to think it was ok.

Very hard to get a table here so book in advance especially Wednesdays when Kids dine free or Monday 2 for 1 meals. Our meals were superb and the kids satisfied, all in all a great night and wonderful meals.

My husband and I went there for dinner last weekend.
Service was prompt and friendly.
Unfortunately, the garlic bread tasted stale and the sides to my venison pie subpar – kumara mash the consistency of baby food and odd tasting, and the “seasonal vegetables” turned out to be a pile of cauliflower that tasted like it had come straight out of a Wattie’s bag.
My husband’s burger was great, but unfortunately his fries were cold.
