Have been to this cafe a half a dozen times in the last two – three years. It seems to have gone downhill a little on my last visit yesterday. normally the coffee is top notch and the food is good. Yesterday the Custard Oblong (custard square) i got was excellent. The flat white to take away, not so nice. They use coffee supreme which is my favorite however the girl who made the coffee needs a little training to produce a good cup of coffee. Will now think twice before dropping in again unfortunately. I hope this cafe lift its game to where it initially was. Its an awesome building, and has excellent deli stock etc, just let down by the bad coffee.

12 of us turned up for lunch today, was a central meeting place for family from Wellington and Taupo. Was a bit skeptical about it having read the reviews on it yesterday before I made a booking, couldn’t really fault anything, food was great and so was the service.

Stopped off for a coffee and a muffin on our way to Taupo. Great coffee but the blueberry muffin was rubbery and the top was uncooked dough. We ate some of the muffin until we realised the top was uncooked then took it up to the counter. No response other than we will tell the chef. We will go elsewhere in future.

Nice breakfast corn,spinach and pumpkin fritters with beetroot and feta. Only thing I would have enjoyed more corn and pumpkin in the fritters. The combination of flavours along with some bacon was great. The ‘muffins’ we took away could have been better named ‘blueberry bread’.

You really need to sort your service out! No-one including the staff knows what’s going on! Do you take a seat? Do you wait to be seated? Do you order at the table? Do you order at the counter? Do you order at all? We waited so long for someone to come to our dirty table which was never wiped clean of spilt milk (no point crying over it I suppose!)we lost the will to live. Plenty of staff on but no-one doing anything. Utterly dismal and kitchen was on a go slow too!!

The first time I came here the Autumn Chicken Salad was delicious and the service was adequate. I came back a second time for the salad and waited for 40minutes before having to get the attention of the waitstaff to ask what the delay was. Patrons who arrived after me got their meals before I did. A great idea for a cafe which was let down by the service.

While the decor was lovely the service wasn’t.
We arrived and the only empty table had yet to be cleaned down. We were given menus and some of the dishes were cleared. They then gave us some water but no glasses and menus.
We sat there waiting to order and after seeing people who arrived after us having their orders taken we went up to the counter to order.
Our food arrived quickly and was okay but I would not recommend this place to others, sorry.

Great decor, beautifully presented food. However the pancakes arrived with merely a sprinkling of syrup. We requested more syrup to compliment the amount of pancakes on the plate and were then charged ;-( Big fat pancakes require lots of syrup, who wants to eat dry pancakes? Soured a perfectly nice weekend lunch.

Fantastic food! Great Coffee! Good service! Will be back.

Very nice cafe, loved the decor and the name. The coffee and easter bun I had was delicious. Would stop in again.

This place says that it is willing to cater to special diets, yet when my partner placed a special order the cook came out, talked to us brusquely but still managed to get the order wrong (important when you have allergies and clearly mention this). When we took it back to the counter the cook started reading the ingredients from the packet -so much for meeting special diets – and we could see the cook’s lardy assistant pointing and laughing at us. Not the type of atmosphere we’ll be looking to revisit in a hurry.

What a great find! While easy to miss first time around when driving past (heading north) it’s certainly not a cafe we will miss again – the food, coffee and service was absolute 5 star. A real find for travelers, with an outdoor area and a deli/ wine cellar to pick up some fresh bread and quality wine on our way to the lake. Didn’t try the menu but the counter food was superb. Would def recommend it.
