Cafe Mozart is a restaurant music bar in the heart of Whangarei. It is located in one of the towns most historic buildings, having previously been occupied for over a century as a chemist shop, most recently until a decade ago by Waterhouse Pharmacy. Most of all the original features of the building have remained intact, with Pacific mahogany, rimu and kauri dominating the interior, and a bar built in sympathy with the surroundings.

In Nov 2000, swiss chef Christian Worz bought the building and converted it into the music friendly restaurant that it is today.

Chris’s extensive European training and experience in some of Switzerland’s premier restaurants quickly found himself a following of diners that enjoy tasty continental food.

The new summer menu features lighter salads, pastas and fish dishes, as well as their hugely popular giant pork chops, schnitzels, stews and lambs fry dishes.

Man spricht Deutsch. We look forward to seeing you here, and welcome your feedback.

Have been here more than once as we are a fan of the casual friendly service. Not a place to go if you expect to be treated like a queen, which I don’t. It’s relaxed and friendly and the waitress isn’t scared to have a few jokes with you.
As usual the food was amazing and the pricing is reasonable especially when you look at how your plate is loaded up! The only place to eat pork in town and enjoy different beers. Will be back again.

Fantastic food and friendly staff!

I have eaten here many times and have thoroughly enjoyed every meal.

The food is excellent and very reasonably priced. Check out the Jumbo Pork Chop, it’s my favourite meal on their menu!

our favorite eating place when we make the trip over from Kai Iwi Lakes, Dargaville. Chris is a charming host who always prepares delectable food at very reasonable prices. This cafe is a great place, and always our first choice to take family or friends for some time out. Chilling with a wine or beer, while Chris can be heard from the kitchen pounding our schnitzel to its most tender state… I think we have probably between the whole extended family eaten right thru the complete menu. It all tastes wonderful. Cheers Chris thanks for looking after us and Noels mum on wed. :-) Ruby

We keep going back again and again. The atmosphere and the food is great. I can’t go past the schnitzel, with vegetables topped with added mushroom sauce. This dish is topped with an omelet and bacon with a garnish of lemon. It is …. well lets just say I keep having it. Pat loves the seafood and adores the salmon dish with shrimp and salad. The food is all so healthy. Christian and the team make dining here so enjoyable. If you haven’t been yet, give it a go. You won’t be disappointed.

I have been a customer at Mozart’s for some time now and have always found the food there to be 5 star!. Chris has always been a supurb host and is a world class chef. HIGHLY RECOMMEND one dines there. Being a musician one can enjoy a fantastic array of music on a Thursday evening and Sundays are are a relaxing time to listen to some fantastic local artists.. with the often sprinkling of international artists participating. The staff have always been fantastic especially clare .. she always has a smile and good kind words to brighten up ones day. And the lovely Olivia who recently left to go back to China .. a beautiful lady who will be sorely missed. Keep up the great work guys.. 5 Stars from me.

Mozart-cafe.

The Whangarei Women’s club committee thouroughly enjoyed their visit to your cafe for lunch today, 6th Dec. 2010.

We all agreed that the food and service was very competent, especially your successful endeavour to serve all our meals together.

The unanamous decision was to repeat our visit in the future as we enjoyed the spacious long table together, excellent tasty food well presented together with attentive drink menu.

We would like to wish you all a merry Xmas and another year of success with good custom. Our word of mouth recommendation shouldn’t go amiss in this direction.

Thanking you once again,

Kind regards, from the Women’s Club.

My partner and I recently had dinner at the
delightful Cafe Mozart..

The smoked salmon salad plate I ordered was absolutely delicious, with fresh (local grown salad)…My partner’s steak dinner was cooked to perfection…both flawlessly presented and with generous portions!

The waitress was super friendly and attentive,
and the charming owner makes his dining guests feel at home!

When we go out for dinner we want the experience to be unique and not the ‘same old same old’…and this little gem of a restaurant is one of the best we’ve been to in Whangarei!

The food and ambiance get an A+..in our book!
Oh, and by the way, the wine (by the glass) was served in little ceramic pitchers……a ‘Swiss’ tradition, apparently…really quaint and memorable!

We live in Wellsford and it’s well worth the drive
..(beats driving to Auckland!)

prices are very reasonable too! Very glad we discovered this place!

I want to share that I really enjoyed our time at Cafe Mozart. I cant rave enough about this place. The atmosphere when we arrived was lovely with a musician playing and entertaining the diners. The steak I had was delicious and cooked perfecdtly, and the morroccan lamb curry my partner had was gorgeous. We were made to feel really welcome, the service being relaxed and friendly. We are definately coming back!

Thanks so much to the Team of Cafe Mozart for the beautiful and wonderful time. We went there a couple of weeks ago with a group of 10. All of us were really impressed with the food and the friendly service. We didn’t had to wait to long for the food and the service was really inviting and friendly. i personally can’t relate to those bad comments at all because it was absolutely perfect with our group. I recommend Cafe Mozart highly for their food specially price wise and their lovely service.

We went to Mozart as a group for a birthday on Saturday night. The inital part of the evening went extremely well, looking like the waitress was going to be organised for a group of approx 15 with seating plans in place.
However this quickly changed with us all leaving very unsatisfied. Some people got wrong orders, some meals were COLD. 2 meals were not even served until 99% of the table had already finished their meal. When they arrived one in particular was not eatable due to a Pizza sauce over the steak??? (definately not the tomato sauce on the side for a child that was asked for). Hence to say no body wanted to stay for dessert considering the last meal was not delivered till well after 8pm. (we were seated at 6.30pm)
Upon payment the waitress would not get the manager and argued that there was nothing she could do. Regardless of how unimpressed people were and the complaints that they had. We all left and had to resort to the McDonalds drive through for dessert and some Men going home for more to eat cause the food at the restaurant was disgusting.
To top the entire evening off… Prices advertised EXCLUDED GST!!! Be careful before choosing to eat at Mozarts in Whangarei.

We have been to cafe Mozart’s a few time, and found it good in the past. The food is still good but the service is bad and slow. You have to shout at the waitress to get attention and the owner was arguing with his wife when she popped in.

I have had two great visits to Cafe Mozart over the years, and therefore thought this would be a great place to take a group of people for a social evening. When I rang to book a table for 12 for drinks and nibbles I was confronted with a rather uncooperative man who demanded that I pay him a certain amount per head of person – regardless of how much we actually wanted to eat, on top of the drinks. I ended up being bullied into agreeing to pay a price per head, after a very difficult conversation trying to explain that I just wanted to be able to select my own food on the night. I felt very unsettled about the whole thing and spoke to a friend who agreed to try to help me sort it out. However I got a phone call the day before from the same man, making sure that we were still coming. I took this opportunity to again try to explain that I only wanted to pay for what I ordered and he got very angry at me and told me I had to pay him per head of person as ‘insurance’ for him and to make it worthwhile for him to have our group in his restaurant (!!!) I told him that I have been taking out groups this size all year to various eateries and restaurants all over Whangarei for drinks and nibbles and have NEVER had such a huge problem or been dealt with in such a hostile and rude manner. The conversation ended on a negative note with the conclusion being that I will take my business elsewhere. I must say that I will NEVER EVER go to Cafe Mozart again, and I don’t think any of the 12 people who were lined up to go will bother either. Not to mention the rest of the people I have told about this horrific experience. A usually timid person, this really upset me! Hence, we all had a lovely time at another restaurant in Whangarei.

the food here is absolutely delicious. i have never found another restaurant anywhere in NZ that can cook a pork chop, make it so crispy and delicious on the outside yet so tender and juicy on the inside. and for dessert there is the chocolate sundae – fresh delicious ice cream smothered in decadence and your own jug of smooth out of this world chocolate sauce.

Oh and i forgot to mention the friendly staff, the awesome atmosphere, and booking a specific table was so easy, even if they are busy. the owner will often take your order and/or deliver your food, and i think he actually cooks the food too….superb!!!!

Perfection!

From the friendly staff to the fabulous food, I would live here if I could it’s so wonderful.

I was so unsure about taking my children to this place, but the staff were amazing. I told them that I’d rather my children don’t stuff themselves with things like chips and hotdogs, and they rolled out will cheesy pasta and small rice molds toped with vegies and a delicious meat gravy for them. The kids LOVED it!

The food, ohhh the food. This place really is top quality at a shockingly low price. I could not believe what arrived on my plate considering the price! It puts every other place in Whangarei to shame! Even the bread served with a meal is an experience unto it’s self.

To top it off, they actually make an effort to remember you, and the owner took the time to come and ask us what we thought of the meal. Obviously this is a place I’ve visited more than a few times.

I can not rave enough about this place!!!
