Went here for dinner and chose the banquet. We got unlimited curry (we chose three meat curries) and also Naan bread, which is great; any other Indian banquet I have been to they don’t give you extra naan. The chicken korma was the best I have tasted and the meat was melt in your mouth perfect. Great value and service with a smile. When I mentioned I went to the restaurant in Napier the owner started, he came out to say hello. Great atmosphere and decor to match. Also, for the first time in my life, I saw Indians dining in an Indian restaurant! Sounds silly, but it’s not actually that common in New Zealand. That says it all really.

This was an extremely poor performance in regard to the service. The food was alright too. Recently I have found that the chicken has been dry (however the occasion didn’t warrant a review), however this time, the service was so bad that my family will never eat there again. It used to be pretty good actually.

We rung and ordered and were told 20 minutes. We arrived at the restaurant at the time requested by the staff (20 mins). We were told to wait for 5 minutes as there was a problem with the order? 20 minutes later… we received our food.

Completely Unacceptable!!!

Rang these guys 45 mins before closing on a Saturday and asked if they could do a team sitting of 9 in 20 mins time? yes they could and they would also stay open a extra hour to cater for us.

Recommended and ordered the banquet with custom mains to suit the different tastes of the group, these guys even managed to find some fish and chips to suit a fussy couple who “didn’t eat spicy food”

Service was friendly and the food was outstanding with some new speciality starters that were well received by the different taste pallets in our group.

Next time I’m back in the Hutt will diffidently take the family.

Well, we’ve been here multiple times before and it’s always been great, service has always been a bit up and down. But last time the meal was very average, the meat in the meal had suddenly shrunk down and was over cooked. The service had sunk to a new level of slowness. Normally this doesn’t concern me as the food is great. Based on this visit we won’t be back. Disappointing. Previous review below, it did have 5 stars from us.

Have been here a number of times over the last few months and the food is exceptional every time. The service ranges between ok to very good. It’s never bad but it’s not great either. Can tend to be a little slow.

We’ve come here with relatives from all over NZ a few times and they’ve all been very happy with the food.

Only got take-out, but waiting in the entrance it is clear that a lot of love has been given to this restaurant. The decor is amazing! Over the top indian decorating makes this place a treat to look at, and really fun! The food, sadly failed to meet the mark! Trying the place out we got two curries, two entrees, rice and naan. The Onion Bhaji was nice and light but the Reshmi kebab came very dry and with far too much coriander for my taste! Strange for marinated chicken meat. The Alu Palek (vege) was tasty and hearty, but the Butter chicken suffered from the same over-cooking as the kebab and a gravy that was quite bland and watery. Almost as though the chef had watered it down to go further. The taste was there. It just had no punch or body! Flashes of promise that fail to deliver.

I have been to this restaurant many times, since its very close to work. The lunch menu was alright for the price. The servings varies quite a lot. Sometimes you get good amount of pieces of meat in your dish, but sometimes you just get 4 small cuts of chicken meat. If you only have an hour lunch break I recommend you order over the phone ahead of time since the service can be very slow. There was this one lunch break when it took then 10 mins to give us the menu. They gave us the dinner menu, so we asked for the lunch menu. It look them another 10 mins to get that, then they disappeared. We wanted to give them our orders but no one was around so we just left and find some other place to have lunch since they already took up 30mins of our time and we had to be back to work soon.

The food was alright.Lunch menu price is very good.

Will I come back? I always do
Will i recommend it? Yes

This is the best Indian Restaurant in Wellington endorsed by the many Indian colleagues visiting New Zealand that I have taken there. They all return with their families and friends. Very friendly service with a vast menu. Nawani will even cook something not on the menu is you feel like a change or are up to the challenge.

We had a family dinner for eight people on Friday night. Some of the group were long-time customers; this was my first and last meal at Mr India. Our food was bland, at best. My goat mogul held its flavour reasonably well, but our other medium-hot curries (especially the day’s chicken special) were mild enough to be shared with members of the group who like their food super-mild. The service was nothing to rave about, either and we waited a long time for our food. Despite having booked, it took 2 1/2 hours to get 2 shared entree platters and our main courses, while we saw other groups who had arrived well after us eat and leave again. The chairs are clearly too large to fit around their tables so we ended up jammed into each other and in the corner. Then, to top things off, we were told that if we wanted to take our leftovers home, it would cost us $2 per takeaway container. Ridiculous!

Mr India is a great restaurant – good food and great lunch specials. I recently went to lunch with a party of 12 for lunch. We ordered in advance over the phone and were served promptly when we arrived. The staff are friendly and helpful but not overbearing.

There’s an elephant in the room … actually there’s several of them.

The restaurant is spacious with plenty of room. The tables, chairs and surrounding decor can be a bit of a shock to the senses – if you’re a fashion designer or an interior decorator the decor might make you feel like you’re being robbed at gunpoint. But it does make it all look rathr authentic and ermmm well Indian.

Service was good. It was a quiet night s that was probably to be expected. The waiter asking if everything was okay during the course of the meal – always a sign of good service.

The food itself was delicious and plentiful – not to mention value for money. My wife isn’t so keen on overly spicy food (whereas I love it), so we opted for medium spicy dishes and they still contained an ever so slight after-bite. It wasnt the best Indian I have ever had, but it wasnt too shabby either.

Even though the prices were reasonable, it was made even better by the Entertainment Book Gold card.

This is a must visit Indian Restaurant the special attention to detail is absolutely outstanding.
The sunny location provides a very pleasant atmosphere that encourages a long relaxing eating experience.
The new tables and chairs imported from India set the scene.
We are vegetarians they always seam to come up with that extra effort to please our plate.
