Went here last night, bit of a mish to find the place but once inside I was happy we made the effort. Had a great round of skewers, the seafood and beef skewers we had were excellent.. the sauces they have made the difference for me. My pork Katsu was top notch, desert was ok. On the whole it was a great night out. Would definitely go again.

Went here today with great expectations, excited to use the voucher I bought online, but was totally let down. As I understand they are a Sake Bar, I called the restaurant earlier on the day to inquire if they do takeaways as I work in the city but live in Hibiscus Coast. Lady on the phone said they do. I waited for couple of hours for their opening at 5pm. When they were about to open, i confirmed it again with the man setting up the entrance that they do takeaways. And soon as I made the order, the very rude man behind the counter dismissed me that they only do takeaways for regular customers! I explained i was told differently twice and that the voucher did not mention dine-in only. He would not listen and the only thing he said was NO! THIS IS SO UNFAIR!!!

Had an amazing dinner here the other night, the food is seriously good and really well priced. The staff were brilliant – thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

A good friend brought us to Mr Yakitori about 3 months ago and we have been dining there faithfully since, in fact almost weekly! Coming from Singapore, we are very discerning where food is concerned. We have never been disappointed with the food at Mr Yakitori. Daniel, the chef and owner, always ensures consistency and quality of food. We love the tender chicken thigh and beef fillet yakitori. The lamb, tiger prawn and salmon yakitoris are really good too. My kids love the bacon & banana yakitori. A must have each visit for us are the grilled eggplant and courgette, yummy! Now if you are brave enough for grilled chicken heart, Mr Yakitori IS THE PLACE to have it, succulent with the right amount of ‘bite’. Other favourites: the deep fried whole flounder, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Indeed, the grilled squid must be the best in Auckland! The pork or chicken Katsu Don with homemade sauce is original and highly recommended. A great place to hang out!

Mr Yakitori, an authentic styled basement Yakitori house is a hidden secret in downtown Auckland. This restaurant has only been open for a short time and still to be discovered to what is sure to become a popular eating spot. As a regular to other popular inner city Yakitori Restaurants, I am tired of there rude services and have found the quality of their food to have slipped over the years. I am so happy to have come across this little gem Mr Yakitori. The quality of the food raises the steaks to a new level of food satisfaction, the special sauces and the quality of meat melts in your mouth, and please try their sea food. The food and the reasonable prices are not the only outstanding items worth mentioning, but the service and the friendliness of the staff, willing to please there clientele. Mr Yakitori doesn’t treat you as another number, but a valued customer. Trust me get in there while you still can you won’t be disappointed.

Without a doubt, this restaurant has produced some of the finest Japanese food ever to pass my lips. Although it may not look like much from the outside, this restaurant has so much to offer. The food is expertly cooked, the atmosphere is extremely welcoming, and you genuinely feel as though you are being treated as a dinner guest by the warm and friendly staff, not just a paying customer. There are all kinds of different types of dishes available, from skewered meat for a pittance to grilled squid for the more adventurous. Definitely would recommend, and I will without a doubt be returning sometime soon!

Saw some of these reviews so went there last night… TOTALLY worth it. the people serving us were cool as… Ive got some Asian mates that rave about sake, so when we went here i thought I’d better try some – AMAZING!!! lol… plus real gold flakes!! i had the chicken katsu and some skewers and WOW that chef can cook good meat! the beef was tender and was so good. the Katsu was great as well… decent size as well. then came the deserts… would recommend the banana and ice-cream! DIVINE!
the entrance would be the weirdest thing as it feels your about to go into a dairy but once inside, you feel away from the stress and hustle of the city center. worth going at ANYTIME!
if you don’t know what to have for a drink… try the plum wine… you’ll be able to sip on that stuff for HOURS its that good.

I was introduced to this restaurant a few months ago and I really love it. The Japanese food is authentic and very delicious, especially the yakitori. The portions are also very generous and value for money. The Japanese interior design of the restaurant made the experience even more enjoyable. I’ll definitely be going back there!

I’ve eaten a few times here now and decided this place really deserved a good review. Friendly staff and great tasting food! I’ve had some excellent seafood and chicken katsu dishes so far, highly recommended. Cheers, Rich.
