Located in the heart of vibrant Petone, Murphy’s Law combines old world charm with a traditional Irish theme. We have an (all day sun) outdoor area perfect for imbibing, and you will find plenty of free street parking or public transport nearby.
We portray cafe by day and restaurant by night. There is something for everyone found on our menus, and no one will leave hungry. Our ordering service allows bistro or table service convenience by our friendly wait staff. We emphasize a warm, relaxed environment, and illuminated ambience with candles over dinner.
Murphy’s Law provides an extensive promotional calender where the slogan of ‘there’s no law against having the time of your life’ never disappoints. All events hosted by Murphy’s Law are free, including live entertainment, themed parties and Sky sports viewings.

I ordered the Paddy’s Pie; a beef stew with mashed potato and pastry. it was DELICIOUS! The meat was incredibly tender and the gravy so full of flavour. My partner ordered a steak sandwich which he enjoyed but i think the steak was a wee bit under done for his liking. The meals were good sizes and were good value for money; i think the meals cost about $18 each.
The service was great, our waitress was attentive and friendly, smiled alot and was extremely polite- we were both impressed.
I do have a few complaints however; it was a chilly sunday and all the doors were open, letting in quite a cold breeze. I would have loved the fire going or even a small heater. Also, i noticed the floor could do with a good vacuum and there were a few flies hanging about. That sounds awful but honestly it wasn’t too bad.
In general we really enjoyed our lunch there and would probably return next time we are in petone.
First time with adult daughter, after a day of shopping we enjoyed a nice chicken salad and wine outside in the fresh air. The price, service and food was lovely.
2nd time was with the husband and 2 young daughters. We sat inside the small but lovely inside and enjoyed looking at the gorgeous bar. I had a yummy cooked breakfast (bacon, toast etc) – The girls had pancakes & and cream. They loved it. Hubby on the other hand had the bacon, sausages and black pudding and wasnt overly fussed as he found the sausages dry and black pudding slightly overcooked. However the price was very reasonable & and the service lovely. The girls are happy enough to go there again for the pancakes.
