Live very near Nana Thai Restaurant so strolled up looking for a nice new local Thai restaurant, from the second we walked in it was pear shaped, the young girl behind the counter ignored us and continued to dry glasses. We were eventually seated, other tables got water, we got our glasses turned and not filled. We ordered 2 mixed entrees, four pieces, all I can say is it was like eating oily cardboard, they were obviously from a countdown multi pack. The smell was also off putting, it was like stewed old casserol, yuk, then it was covered up with air freshener. We asked to hold the main and give the bill, the lady said the chef was only there 6 weeks and wouldn’t charge us, this was their only saving grace. Will not go back, we left and went up the road for mains at a different Thai restaurant and that was truly lovely.

We also bought a deal voucher for Nana Restaurant and were given the full menu as in last review. Our meal was delicious with gorgeous flavours. We chose medium hotness – next time we will do mild – but it was still enjoyable! Thankfully we were graciously served ice cold water regularly..and the jasmine rice helped cool things down a wee bit! Our coconut mousse dessert was absolutely divine – light and refreshing – and the perfect end to a lovely dinner! The service was excellent and we were greeted in a traditional Thai manner by the friendly staff which added to our experience. The music was authentic and just what we would have expected in a Thai restaurant. We will also definitely go back!

We bought a deal voucher for this restaurant and expected a set menu.

But no we were given the full menu. Food was excellent, mixed entree was really good. Mains very good , beautifully presented
and quite large servings. Service was excellent. And the location
is superb. Would definitely go back.

If I wanted to impress someone, I’d take them anywhere but Na Na Thai at the beach. It would take too much space here to list the negatives, but suffice to say there were no positives and I will only give them one star!

Sorry guys but this was a less than average meal, especially considering they are next door to Thai Family. First off, the music. Sounded like a year 2 primary school band with too many recorders and tambourines, tuneless would be paying it a compliment. Second, no kids menu. This is on a busy family beach area-major consideration come summertime. Third was the cutlery. We were handed back the forks we used for our entrees. Really?
And finally, the food itself. No flavor to speak off. Man of the house ordered Gang Dang which tasted mildly of coconut but only sensation was the level of heat for a medium dish. I ordered the 3 Alcoholics-all I can say was I wish I was :-( tasteless, vegetables overcooked and mushy and no flavor other than the level of heat again.I also don’t think it’s professional of the waitress to lean over me to my partner on the other side of the table to serve him rice. What’s wrong with walking around to his side of the table. Very disappointing overall which is a great shame given the prime location they have. Napkins with the info for their other place in Botany isn’t exactly ideal but then if I was Nana on The Beach, I’d keep costs to a minimum too cos they ain’t gonna last without raising their game considerably given the local competition.

Pretty good Thai restaurant, I’ll frequent most of thai places in east Auckland including sister Na na thai in Botany but this one has slight edge for me being just down road, plus it doesn’t have typical cheesy thai decor. Food is well presented prices are on moderate/high particularly for the sides, but given the location and views of the beach I’d take this one over Botany location. Was quite sparse when I went on Saturday recently, and no booking was required. Ordered Penang curry and I think my partner ordered love a duck, and couple average side dishes, mains were both above average taste wise, all food was well presented, and have no complaints about service, they were continually checking on us. If I wanted to impress someone, without the pomp of visiting Mission Bay, I would probably take them here :) , as a stroll on beach after dinner doesn’t go amiss. Parking is easy although I imagine this will probably change when summer hits. A++ from me.
