I love this place. Never fails to deliver. Great service, great atmosphere, great food, what more could you want? The house special, kedgeree, is fantastic and even better washed down with a glass of vodka soaked raspberry bubbles – perfect.
Highly recommend this place but book if you want a seat in the sun because it’s always busy.

Nikau represents the best in Wellington cafe culture. Friendly service, great coffee and the signature kedgeree is consistently brilliant. The rest of the menu offers simple dishes prepared very well and with a style of their own. For a longer lunch, the wine list never disappoints.

Really good breakfasts. The sage fried eggs are insanely good. Make sure you wake up early if you were out partying the night before, breakfast ends at noon.

This has got to be one of Welly’s best kept secrets… a gem hidden beside the art gallery. Tasty and creative food, great staff and beautiful architecture – why would you not treat yourself regularly? I will be now that I know it’s open on Sundays!

Nikau is a comfortable and stylish restaurant, offering quality food and the glass windows in the roof and walls creates lovely natural light during the middle of winter. I had a simple breakfast, choosing the boiled eggs. They were perfectly cooked and came with toast and soft butter. The tea was a bit too weak (however forgot to say “strong Tea” will say this next time). But it was tealeaf’s instead of a teabag. When it came to paying, noticed the waitress had billed me for the wrong table. (check your receipt).

Great to have it back, after a long time being closed while the building was earthquake strengthened. I always order the kedgeree and it never fails to disappoint. The cakes & sticky things are good too. It’s one of my favourite places for lunch, or coffee meetings. Very ‘Wellington’.
