We had a deal voucher given to us by a friend, so decided to go last night. The entree of mussels was nice. We were told by the waitress that there was only one serving of Pork Belly left (it was a Monday night and there were about 6 diners there so not sure where all the pork belly went) so my husband ordered the Pork Belly. Bad move. It was probably leftovers and was charred and dry and barely recognisable as pork belly. My stuffed chicken breast was okay, slightly dry, vegetables ordinary. Our deserts were terrible. Tiramisu, completely lacked any flavour and the chocolate brownie microwaved and so hot I had to gulp some wine to prevent my mouth from burning.
It’s a shame that the owners have tried to tempt us in with a Grab One deal and then served a terrible meal. Will we go back….no!

By the way the website says meals cost between $15 and $25. They need to update that information because my chicken was about $29 on the menu.

Im taking my family to dinner here this Saturday to celebrate my husbands birthday. My first time was last year in November after a friend had mentioned to check it out and found it quite refreshing. The following week I took my sister’s and their families and my mum and aunt. Honestly, it wasnt for everyone in our party, but the majority agreed it was great value for money, the atmosphere was great and the food wasnt too shabby either. If anything, probably just the slow delivery of our meals was an issue for some. On that particular date, my husband made a point of calling the chef from the bar and giving him the thumbs up! which is something he rarely does. I had been there also a few weeks ago for a friend’s farewell, the food was fine, I enjoyed it and looking forward to a great meal this weekend too!

I went to Nineteen Eighty last night with my partner, I bought a deal voucher. We enjoyed the style, my partner is in music so menu on record was really fun.
We were told we can only order one starter and they gave two choices, garlic cob and mussels, which was never mentioned on the deal. I love mussels and my partner didn’t eat them, we ordered garlic cob, which was microwaved and did not have any taste, no salsa or sauces with it.
Main and desert was nice, only one choice of wine which was nice anyway.
I will not go back even if I see a deal because of the misunderstanding of the starter, such a shame as I could do a group meeting but my partner disagrees:-(
Over all, not happy.

Celebrated my son’s 24th Birthday on 27th March, had a deal voucher for 6 people.
Little bit sceptical about the place at first, but the food was well above our expectations.

Will eat there again.

Myself and my two girlfriends had a wonderful dining experience here last night! As we purchased a 3 course deal voucher the waitress kindly seated and advised of Ts & Cs regarding what could be ordered from the menu. Entree COB bread and mussel pot were absolutely wonderful! Each of our mains were sumptuous and presented to a high standard. We were also very satisfied with the desserts that we ordered. I believe that the service and quality of food from this restaurant exceeded our expectations and we will definitely come back for more!

I have eaten at Nineteen Eighty one several times now, the food is always delicious and great value for money. The lamb salad and chicken are particular favourites, big portions and top quality food! The staff are friendly and down to earth and go out of their way to be helpful. Occasionally a bit of a wait on food during busy times, but if you need to get out of there in a hurry they will make sure your food is out ASAP. Will definitely be coming back for tasty food and a fun place to enjoy a few drinks and have a dance with the girls!

Service was not great, we were told what entrees we could order then the waiter/barman didn’t take our order, came back ten minutes later to say he will take entree and main orders at the same time. We were told no ribs because they take seven hours (then I read the review from below from the people who went yesterday and got the same story) we were told steak was off the menu because we had vouchers. My burger was disgusting burnt rubbery, the bread was hard and I couldn’t risky my expensive dental work, only ate the fries. My diet coke was good :-) dessert average, will not be returning.

We had a voucher for a 3 course meal here and were quite excited about trying it out. In my opinion if you have a voucher you should be getting the best of everything so that you have a great time and are willing to go back and pay full price. This did not happen. The waitresses were lovely however but one of them does need more training as she couldn’t answer any of our questions about the food. Upon arrival we are informed that there will be no ribs tonight but not to worry as a lady had complained the previous night about them and that they tasted weird but the customer obviously didn’t know what she was talking about. Not a major but would have like to been notified when booking as the picture that sells the voucher was the ribs. Garlic loaf was yum and I ordered the stuffed chicken which was good also. It came with something called Cipollini which I was not sure of what it was. The waitress told me she didn’t really know but that it is a vegetable of some sort, it comes in a stack, has no colour or taste to it and is pretty bland and meh. Great selling point!! I ordered the chicken anyway and googled it (it’s onion). My husband had a very dry pork belly with mash. The mash was so weird tasting with a bit of a spice flavour. the waitress asked the kitchen what was in it and it was mixed spice!!! (consists of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and the mash smelt like Xmas pudding-couldn’t eat it). Finally dessert comes out – tiramisu and chocolate raspberry brownie. The brownie had been heated and I went to take a bite and it was hard as rock! If you heat something and its still hard then it must be days old. The tiramisu was dry and hard sponge. We replaced it with cheesecake and ice-cream. Cheesecake was delicious and fresh. Ice cream had a random liquorice flavour for one of the scoops. It smelt really weird but I guess some people like that. We had diet coke to drink which was pretty flat also. Not sure if it Morewas because it was a Sunday night or because we had a voucher but we most definitely will never be going back!

This was our first visit at 1981. The waitress was very friendly and informed us of the “Specials”. I asked if I could non alcoholic version of one of their cocktail’s, she said no problem.

We had the garlic cob for Entree. For Mains, My wife chose the Steak & Kidney pie with mash. I had the sundried tomato and feta cheese stuffed chicken fillet. My wife said it was the best pie she had ever eaten. I really enjoyed the stuffed chicken too.

The decor brought back lots of memories.

Looking forward to our next visit.

Just had a lovely meal for lunch at 1981 with some friends from the States & my 4 children – I’ve been a few times & always had a great experience which is why I chose the venue. First impressions were great with my guests commenting favourably upon the layout & décor.

The booked table was in already for us and the service great. We chatted and ate at our leisure with the kids playing, with the bar’s toys, around us. The price was very reasonable – particularly given the amount the kids drank – and the food was tasty (I can recommend the Angus Steak open sandwich & the calamari) and reasonably generous in size.

All in all another great time had by all.

Restaurant stuffed up times – went on a work Christmas lunch – arrived to cold food already sitting on table – waitress didn’t want to zap food worried about lettuce but better than cold hard food. No discounts/apologies – sent email after Christmas lunch complaining and they didn’t even bother to reply!

A group of 20+ booked our Christmas party that was held in the function room, a X-mas buffet at $50.00 per person. Menu consisted of soup & roll entree. OK but not to every ones taste. Mains – 2 roasts and ham but only ham and pale chicken came out. Pork roast came out after the majority had eaten. Food was tasteless and dessert a disaster which was evident with what was left over on all the plates. For the price we paid it would have been better if we had ordered separately or gone elsewhere. Service was good though. Talked about this at great length during the week at work and the majority feel none of us will be returning.

For your service skills I give you 5 stars but just the food on the night let you down. Only because my steak was so dry that I nearly choked. But guys that can be improved because your service and the atmosphere is great. Keep up the great service and keep an eye on the steaks. Medium rare is not well done by any account. Thanks though for the nice nostalgic place that you have created.

Have eaten here a couple of times – First time was sunday roast – Chicken with all the trimmings. Great feed and only $16! I cant go past the burgers there. Massive, juicy, tasty and great value for money. And you can get a proper pint of beer there! In an old 600ml milk bottle…. Classic. Good surroundings.

I had my 50th birthday party at the Nineteen eighty one club. Absolutely fantastic, the venue, the staff, the menu and the overall cost. I couldn’t recommend them enough. Thank you to all the staff. Nicky was incredibly helpful organizing the menu as well as being efficient and helpful on the night. I would like to thank all the staff for a great night,
