This restaurant is not Guide Dog friendly and the meal was very indifferent, plus the fish was cold.

We live in Opua much of the year and visit Only Seafood Restaurant at least once a week. The staff is very friendly, efficient, and helpful with the menu and wine list. The food is consistently excellent. We have hosted many of our neighbours there and have never been disappointed with the quality of the meal or service. The old home is quaint and transports you back a century. I am confident you will enjoy your visit to Only Seafood. Cheers

Very disappointing. We decided to go the full hog and order the entree, main and dessert(Often we don’t).Entree came with so much bread to fill you up and very little else.Main meal was OK, but nothing great. If anything it was kind of small considering the cost of almost $40-00.If I hadn’t stuffed myself up on all that bread,I probably would have still been Hungary(now I know why so much bread). The dessert was nice but so small.I agree with some of the people below commenting on the high prices of drinks. Its true,we got a bottle of Ricca dona which cost more than double of the supermarket price. We dined in winter and it was way to hot and stuffy in there.Really uncomfortable.Been there, done that.Never again.

I went to this restaurant with a group of 8. All but 1 really enjoyed their meals. The one complaint was about the seafood salad which had very little of anything except lettuce.

A major down point was the price of drinks! The cheapest glass of wine was $10, this is unreasonable for a cheap supermarket brand!!

We just ate at Only Seafood – had read the various up & down reviews online and were a bit dubious but our motel owner suggested we give it a try….. the service was great, the oysters, filo scallops & calamari we had for entrees were DELICIOUS (the scallops were just perfect, the sauce rich but not heavy) and the seafood platter was excellent (impressive mound of salmon).

Lovely setting; great food & really nice staff – we’d definitely go back!

Unlike the previous reviewer we had a very pleasant experience here.

We went to Only Seafood on a busy night and hadn’t booked, we were told we could have a table outside or they could have an inside table ready in 10 minutes. We opted for the inside and they seated us within the ten minutes. At all times the service was friendly, professional and prompt. The food was very good and we would definitely go again. Cost for two people was $139 for two course and a bottle of wine

Hello readers,

The restaurant is enticing in its olden years aura and locaiton overlooking russel but STOP thats the only positive thing about it.
We visited the place for dinner during long weekend 2008 October.
ordered two dishes and they were below average fro a speciality food place, fish dish with galinano and banana cream was ………………….yuck.
The waitress came cleared the plates – didn’t ask how the food was even though one of the mains plate was literally untouched.
She loiterred back few minute later dumped the dessert menus on table and disappeared for without not a word uttered or even an expression.

This has been our worst experience of all the Zealand restaurants. Especially when they call themselves a speciality food restaurant.

Will never blunder to set foot in this place again. Rather scavenge for sea weed on the beach.

Its run by couple of women and demonstrates the state of the country which is coincidently headed by a woman.
