Went with the family, was very nice and stylish. Staff were very friendly and our chief was great. Would not go again as you don’t really get your money’s worth food wise. For the price you pay to dine there you would think you’d get a lot more. My advice your better off at MONGOLIA BUFFET!

Hi Jo, This is a reply in regards to your comment regarding the prices of our menu. The prices are considerably affordable compared to other teppanaki restaurants in New Zealand. In addition the prices for 5 course meal including desserts and green tea…    More »

When to Otaku before Christmas as part of a group of 10 people as a office Christmas Lunch, was very impressed by the food, the entertainment from the Chef was excellent, catching egg fried rice in our months will be a highlight our party will remember. One of our guest learned a valuable lesson, don’t wear a white cotton shirt to lunch at Otaku. Will be back for lunch soon, recommend for groups of people, 8 – 10 people fill a table. A great dining experience.

I agree with the last review, very modern look with awesome cutlery, facilities etc. BIG tables so you can store all your food and drink because you know there is going to be alot f it!
Butthe experience is what it is all about, its not a sit down chill out Japanese meal, its a full on fun filled dining experience with laughs the entire time! At yourself, friends and family. Antonio(i think) was our chief, WOW, had some amazing skills and made it an amazing couple of hours. Even got me catching rice bowls 1 after the other until I got to 13 and CRASH they all came down almost spilling my drink.. but all good times… love it, recommend it, DO IT!!!

Thanks Team Otaku!!!!

When I read the earlier review I thought it was a joke. A person that goes to a teppanyaki restaurant and then complains that the food is thrown around needs their head read. If I went to this restaurant and didn’t get to catch egg in my mouth or catch bowls of rice then I would have given them a bad review. But as far as teppanyaki restaurants go this new restaurant was exactly as I expected. Our chef (James) was great, really entertaining and the food was yum too. I’m looking forward to going back again for their lunch special. I took one star off as I think the decor is a bit dull. But other than that it’s a really fun place to eat out at and I’m really excited we finally have a place like this in New Plymouth. If you’ve never heard of teppanyaki and are a bit precious about things then I suggest checking it out on youtube before you go just so you know what you’re getting yourself into but if you’re game then try it, it really is a great night out.

Absolutely terrible! Right from walking in the door we were left waiting and waiting and waiting.

The entire table is not served until everyone is there. Fine if you all show up at 6:30, not so fine when 4 people are 15 mins late, and my booking was at 6pm!!

Things progressively went from bad to worse. The chefs are up themselves with their fancy moves on the table. In no culture is it acceptable to play with your food!

Dinner guests do not like having egg chopped up and splattered all over the walls, the floor and throughout the table!

It felt as if you didn’t order the egg fried rice you were second class guests.

Then for dessert I specifically ordered no strawberry ice-cream due to an allergy and they deliver me chocolate with strawberry sauce!

Honestly, I have not been to a worse restaurant in my life.
