2 Reviews for Pacific Restaurant
Pacific Restaurant is part of the Rendezvous Hotel in Auckland. It’s nicely laid out (as is the hotel) and because of the hotel, generally busy. This isn’t necessarily an indication of how good the food is because guests may not have any choice – which is the situation I was in after arriving in Auckland on a late flight.
This rating is based on the food alone because I opted for room service, although I have had breakfast in the Pacific Restaurant a few times.
I ordered the grilled rib-eye steak on mash with beans and a red-wine jus, medium well. Now, there wasn’t anything really wrong with the food. But similar to other places I have written reviews on, it was fairly average. Paying over $30 you would expect something a bit more extravagant – but while the red wine jus sounds fancy – it was steak, beans and mash on my plate with a runny brown sauce.
The steak was cooked just as I had ordered which was good, although it looked suspiciously like it wasn’t actually rib-eye – but I can’t confirm that that is the case. The mash tasted like mashed potatoes and the beans tasted like beans.
For $32 (the in-dining price, not the price I paid for room service) you can actually get a far more satisfying and appealing meal elsewhere. For people who are flying in late in the evening however, it is a suitable and adequate option.

I also tried the chicken salad which firstly was really univiting to look at and not more than something you would whip up at home or a quick lunch with small dry pieces of chicken laid on the side. Overall pretty poor, although a good view.
