This restaurant has improved out of sight over the last 18 months.
We are locals and eat there at least twice a month.
The Chicken Tikka is the best thing on the menu but I would have to say there is not a dud dish on the menu.
For those of you who are familiar with Brick Lane in the East End of London this is as close as you will get in NZ.
The recent paint job has really cheered the place up as well.
Great food. Two of us eat for $35 and still some left to take home.
You have to like spicy food though. Very authentic.

Our ph. order went awol and despite the extremely pathetic, aggorant customer service from the only waiter & short of decking the guy! The Food is 5 star rating, sadly the same cannot be said for the hygiene standards re. floor/tables.. hence the dim, fairy lights atmosphere.
The head-Chef came out to our vehicle to apologize for his male staff rude behavior. He explained that being the 2nd week of opening, their had run out of food!
If we didn’t mind waiting, he personally prepare a takeaway meal for us. The FOOD itself is superb… Beats Masala restaurant in Birkenhead, hands down any-day! Portion sizing is very generous big chunks of meat and very tasty gravies. My takeaway meal lasted me 2days! AS a way of apology, we got 2 xtra Naan bread FREE of charge.
Bookings is a must, its a very small simple place, tables are closely set to each other & as most evenings Pakwan is fully booked and patience with the Waiter is a virtue!

Absolutely delicious curry!! I have tried other shops around Auckland but Pakwan deserves the crown. Excellent service and the food is so yummy.Portions are huge and the naan bread is very nice too. Very good value for your money. =)

Take no notice of the surroundings, this is the best curry house on the North Shore
I tend to disagree with the recent review, actually read the review and came in to try this place. Food is definitely not “Indian”. And tried to ignore the surroundings but, honestly I found it “unclean” and at the end of the day you are selling food, the ambience needs to improve big time! Didn’t mean to be harsh…sorry, I am just being honest.

The butter chicken was disapointing, made with coconut milk, the chicken pieces stale. Yes, it is cheap but I don’t want to get sick. Not coming back.
