Service was great. Nice cosy restaurant. Entrees were lovely. My partner’s meal was amazing and mine wasn’t amazing but it was good.

The staff were very friendly, the food was great, we all had a fantastic evening. The only minor point for improvement I noted was when our BYO bottles of wine were brought out, the waitresses didn’t offer to fill our wine glasses. Apart from that, this place was AMAZING!

My review is a couple of years old as I wasn’t aware of this site. However I felt compelled to rely my experience at The Palms. My sister and I live o/s and had made a major mistake in booking my Mothers Surprise 70th at a restaurant across the road from The Palms. Unbeknownst to us that restuarant had closed, we found this out 1 hour before we were due to arrrive. In a total panic I rang The Palms who were ever so obliging in fitting in our group. My Mother had a fantastic night, the meals were great and a very stressful situtaion was solved. I can’t thank the staff enough.

I have heard alot about this restaurant so was keen to give it a go. Everything I heard was true, the atmosphere is lovely, the waitresses were attentive but not in your face and the food altho expensive was worth it. I had the chicken served on a chorizo and mushoom risotto which melted in my mouth. My husband had the pork stuffed with pear and proscuitto which he was a little disappointed with as the pork was slightly dry but still tasted fine. The side orders (salad, potatoes, vegetables) are enough for 2 people.

Food at Palms is often excellent but portions are too small given the price. The place is very cosy and the selection of wine is good.

Sad to say I was disappointed with my experience here. The meal started well with pleasant fast service and a lovely atmosphere. The entree (bread, dips, olives and feta) was great and we were served a complementary appetiser of soup shots. If we had left before the mains I would have given this place 5 stars. For the mains my fiance ordered the chicken risotto which was good, but not exceptional and I got the vegetarian gnocchi in white tomato sauce which was pretty terrible. The gnocchi was incredibly bland and the sauce tasted like butter and little else. It was bad enough that it completely outweighed the positives of this restaurant, and we will definitely not be returning.

One of the best places you can eat in Dunedin. It’s not cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for – excellent meals, wonderful service and nice atmosphere.
I recommend the steamed ginger pudding for dessert!

food was good, but you can the same quality elsewhere for half the price (or twice the portion). service was below par and left much to be desired. Very long wait for food to come from kitchen. Drinks took 20 minutes to come, which is unacceptable since we only ordered wine.

Just had the pleasure of dining here and am really impressed. The service was good; attentive without being intrusive, prompt without being pushy. A very comprehensive menu with some pretty special ‘pairings’. The food was not too speedy coming, but that was part of the charm. When it came, it was worth every cent and the portion size was sensible. Both my husband and I were delighted that the meat we chose was perfectly cooked, tender and utterly delicious! We will be back – The Palms is a place we’ll be proud to take visitors and friends, for a special dining experience.

This is one of the best in Dunedin. Delicious food, really had flavour, cooked to perfection. Great service attentive but not over done. Nice atmosphere and reasonable prices for the standard of food and service.

Dined here the other night and found this place lived up to its reputation as one of Dunedin’s best restaurants. The service was friendly and attentive, and the food was superb – good value for money too. Would definitely recommend!

The service was superb. Wait staff couldn’t have been more helpful. I went with a large party and everyones meals looked great, no matter what you order on the menu you won’t be let down.

I went for a dinner at the Palms and was meet by a male waiter. The way he presented him self was slack and served by leaning across the table with making very little effort to be out front and making sure the tables were happy, The food on the other hand was cooked amazing i enjoyed every bit it was just sad that it was let down by such slack table manner out the front of house.

The $10 lunches here are divine. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and is rather posh considering the price. Also a fantastic place for Dinner. One thing, its a crazy confusing climb up the stairs to find the (cramped)toilets so not sure how this restaurant would fair for the mobility impaired

We came for a work lunch, had $10 lunches which were incredible value for quality, yuminess and presentation and the comfortable modern facilities. Catered for allergy requirements. Lady with dark short hair has excellent service!! Total bill for us was amazing considering what we ordered. Coffee was delish. Got a friendly smile from the chef as we left, overall super impressed!!!

A bit disappointing. Service was extremely slow. We were booked in for 7:45pm and at this time there were already 4 items off the menu as they had run out. The entrees and mains were superb, the desserts just good. The restaurant is advertised as BYO; we took our own wine but as a consequence you are supplied with pub-like wine glasses. We asked for proper red wine glasses, which was greeted with hesitation, but said they would supply them in this instance since so many menu items had run out. These glasses took over 30 mins to be delivered to our table.

Have only been there for lunch not dinner but it’s always excellent – lovely food at a great price. Nice unfussy service. Highly recommended.

Palms met my (quite high) expectations when we dined there for a Christmas function. Service was attentive and friendly while the food itself was well balanced, tasty and memorable. To top it all off…the superb wine list helped make the night. All in all a highly recommended dining experience and without being overly pricey.
