The Hermitage is just a strange place. Standing as it is upright in the middle of that valley looking up towards the sometimes visible Mt Cook. The Panorama restaurant is trying to be quite posh but is just a little on the pretentious side. The food was good – not great. The whole experience felt like the last of the human race stuck on a space ship – with the rich people eating in the Panorama dining room and the rest in the Alpine dining room – in reality the food was all coming from the same kitchen though and the posh dining room is there just to make you feel as though you have a choice in venues when in reality there is no real choice. Our waiter David was the highlight of our meal here.
