Had the same experience tonight, $46 for 2 of the worst pizzas I’ve ever tasted, they seemed to forget the tomato base, very bland. I used to love the food at this place back in the day … but sadly I’ll never return

What can I say to that. If I went into a place and had the “worst pizza’s ever” I would of said something at the time.

It’s gone downhill because the owner passed away about 7 years ago….that was when it was packed out every night and customers would stay till late. Meals were the best in the West (actually got an award for best West Auckland restaurant). Pizzas were magic and so was service.

It was passed on to a family member once the owner/chef died…then the restaurant was ‘made over’ but it stole everything special about the place, was no longer welcoming and cosy. Meal prices went up and quality went down.

So that is the reason why it’s nothing like it used to be…real sad.

Hi Elienne, I do agree the prices have gone up since my father passed away with the last price increase was when GST went from 12.5 to 15%. My father ran a successful business for 20 years and had his loyal followers. I am very happy with the make over /…    More »

Pizzaland used to be the best Pizza around, I don’t know what has happened to the pizza’s but they are no longer the same the topping were so generous and the base was really nice, I asked them once what has happened to the base etc, they said that nothing had changed, well all I can say and the people I know who used to love going there, they have changed and not for the better. Real shame

I was also given a voucher for this place – and ate there about 3wks ago. I am very surprised by the ‘good’ reviews on here and can only guess that these people that say its the best food they have ever tasted – have only ever eaten fish and chips.
This food is by far VERY dissapointing – definately tastes like a microwave meal and i experianced the over use of onion on my pasta as well. The grey headed gentlemen makes you feel like you are not wanted and is just as rude as the ‘shy’ girls that cant talk to you when they take your order – but are more than willing to scream and shout from the bar at the back of the restaurant out into the takeaway foyer.

My partner and I went to Pizzaland last month after buying a voucher for the restaurant off yazoom. The service was very awkward and we would hardly hear/understand our waitress. The whole time all I could hear was very loud, rude shouting and screaming from the kitchen. The music is like elevator music and the decor is old. Not a very nice environment to share a meal with someone in. The meals weren’t anything special at all. We had a pizza and the tortellini. The pizzas are bland and I would rather of had one from the frozen section of Pak N’ Save (yes I’m serious). I thought the tortellini was also very bland with not very much flavour. We left as soon as we had finished our meals as the decor, music and service isn’t enjoyable. The two girls at the counter were having an argument while we were tyring to pay for our bill. She was also shouting across the room to someone else. The next day I was ill, unsure if Pizzaland was the cause but this has put me off even more.
Won’t be going again.

I was given a Yazoom voucher for a gift……nice thought but this place is appalling….DO NOT GO HERE…you get better service and food at the BP petrol station up the road.

I have travelled extensively through Asia and other parts of the world – and even people that have no idea how to speak English know how to give a better dining experience than what i received. I think a few customer service courses and a whole decor revamp is much needed.

Best tasting Lasagna I have ever had. Delivered hot to the plate and at a great price. What more could you want?

Highly recommended. A good night out that is achievable on a budget.

HOT FOOD!! couldn’t eat it when i received it so that’s a good sign the food i had was fantastic my partner enjoyed it very much as well (i had a tortellini and if i recall my partner had a peake pizza in the restaurant) but yes great food i don’t think i noticed any over-the-top use of any ingredients (and i know my food if you know what i mean) did’t have to wait forever but i couldnt have cooked the same thing at home in the same amount of time and NO DISHES that i have to clean
The music is slightly out of date and i did mention this to the new part owner and he said he would talk to his partner about some more Italian style music it wasn’t very loud at all either (as i read that someone else commented)
the waitress came across slightly nervous at first but ended up having a sense of humour and so was friendly after a bit of a joke so i won’t mark her down on that this time
the shouting from the kitchen i would have to say was an interesting experience but its good to know they are trying to time my food with my partners just right so we can both enjoy our food at the same time.
had an enjoyable experience altogether would encourage others to go and i would definitely return.

Our group visited Pizzaland to celebrate a friend’s birthday recently. The service at this restaurant was absolutely appalling, the worst service I have ever witnessed. The waitresses were pleasant enough although the man that represented himself as the new part owner was rude and obnoxious. The food was subpar (which is almost an insult to the original owner of Pizzaland, whom had a great reputation in the West Auckland food arena). The new part owner argued with our group regarding an error on his part, in the middle of the restaurant twice, before we even received our mains. This made all of us feel very uncomfortable. Then he did the same with another group of four at the table behind us. In hind sight we should have walked out then, but we persisted ate our subpar mains and then paid the bill, then the part owner slammed the restaurant door behind us. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. To the son of the original owner, if I was you I would give that man his money back for his share in the business, before he ruins everything your Dad created.

We returned to pizzaland relatively early for Saturday evening diners after some years of moving out of the area. Prior to moving away we were regular visitors. We must say that the same meal that we have enjoyed numerous times was not that of Eddies recipe, but would still give it just an O.K rating despite it taking a long time to arrive. Having heard continuous extensive loud yelling from the kitchen to the pizza prep area and the same through to the dining area, we felt as if we were having a meal in a fish or produce market. This being a very obvious concern with other diners. Not a dining experience we wish to repeat in a hurry. Eddies friendly presence and that of the Riosa family was sadly missed.

The Service
Went to Pizzaland after getting a voucher off YAZOOM – $10 for $25 worth of food
This place is pathetic…really old decor and incredibly crap loud music….we were greeted by a grumpy old man who rudely asked for our reservation and mumbled something to a girl next to him, he walked off in one direction and she walked off in the other.. we were left standing there not knowing who to follow.
The Food
Our orders were taking by the same girl..who just appeared at the table and still didnt speak…but did manage to yell across the room into the takeaway room to someone else..
My partner and i both ordered pasta..it was pretty much a watties ready meal with a whole heap of onion and cheese sprinkled on top – It was obvious they rely heavily on the onion to try and give it taste.
I refused to eat mine and my partner didn’t want to make a fuss..he washed his down with the bottle of water and asked mine to be takeaway – which we threw out as soon as we got home…and went to a decent restaurant from some real Italian pasta..which was also cost less
The experience
The table we were sat at was sticky, my fork was dirty and there was a squashed small bug on the underside of my napkin…to top it off the cane basket that the pizza bread came in had cobwebs and mouldy herbs stuck in it. I used the toilet – which was dirty, with puddles on the floor – the toilet wouldn’t flush either.
In this area is La Nosa in Glen Eden and Commodore Pizza in New Lynn…Pizzaland does not compare in taste or price or experience to these places…i wouldn’t even pay $5 for this meal. It was DISGUSTING.

We had the Calamari (best I’ve ever tasted) and herb pizza bread, followed by super tasty lasagne and brilliantly conceived Ham,pineapple, caper, cheese and chilli Pizza.. simply done and full flavoured.
Wine shop across the road and no corkage fee makes for a cheap night out!
Highly reccomended… Chef Ramsey watch out ;p

I am amazed at the bad comments. Pizzaland is our local, has been there for years and has been great for each one of those years! The prices are a little steep but thats what you pay when you want a good quality DELICIOUS meal! Unlike many restaurants the portion size is huge. Eddie was originally the owner and ran the restaurant bringing in regular customers and keeping that relaxed family dining vibe. His Son has now taken over and I believe is doing a great job. I must recommend the Tortellini as it so delicious! Rich and creamy. Thanks for a wonderful dining experience everytime. May be in need of a revamp but hey the look never had any effect on how great the food tastes…Keep on keeping on Nick! =) I shall be in there again for your special November Promo..50% of the bill with 3+ people!

Have been going for years to Pizzaland!! bases have changed slightly… for the worse im afraid!
Went to the Buffet night on Thurs. There was a near full restaurant and no pizzas. 1-2 Pizzas came through every 10 mins or so. And there would have been 20-30 people. So not enough food!! poor wait and we gave up after only 4 pieces of pizza. If your going to have a pizza buffet night…. at least have continuous pizza. I definatley wont be back again.

Best tortellini i have EVER tasted!!(i always add extra ham), superb garlic pizza and excellent range of different varieties of pizza and pasta suitable for everyone. It is a little pricey but well worth it!
I crave this food day in and day out and it never falls short of satisfying me. Great job pizzaland!

I am not a fussy person and rarely give bad reviews but unfortunatley the standard of food at this restaurant was very very below average. We ordered 2 pizzas and a spaghetti pasta/meat dish which cost approx $45. The spaghetti was the worst I have ever tasted and wasn’t far removed from tasting like a mircowave meal. Very disappointing….as were the somewhat soggy, bland pizzas.

The decor was very dated and old, even the fridge looked run down. There was one lady serving who was more approachable face to face than she was when I had telephoned to inquire about the pasta menu.

Put it this way, we were originally very hungry but neither of us came close to finshing our meals.

After reading an article promoting this restaurant in the Western Leader about a year ago, we REALLY wanted to enjoy this as it was family run and owned and we wanted to support our local community.

Sadly the food was very ordinary; what kind of cheese WAS that on the pizza??!! Other ingredients were bland….a very 1970s idea of pizza and almost nothing Italian. Dried herbs in the Bolognese sauce. On a positive note, the spicy spaghetti DID have a good heat to it and the serving was generous.

The decor is very tired.

Most disappointing was the lack-lustre service. When we asked to eat in we were eventually presented with our food in takeaway containers.

Apparently they won an award in 1999 for being the best local takeaway…. I guess we were just 10 years too late….
