We normally go to Portside in a family group. The floor service is always friendly and normally set your table outside regardless how many we are.

The food here is inspiring, very well seasoned and good fresh ingredients especially the fish, yummy !

I called the restaurant early this week for a reservation and they informed the venue has been closed for renovations, it is a shame I can’t have my son’s 16 lunch there.

Well, I’ll wait and see what they are planing for the future.
Thanks for the top hospitality provided so far guys, I hope see you soon.

Went here on a Saturday for lunch, was given the breakfast menu’s at 12:30 and made to search around for lunch ones. Ordered garlic bread to start which was expensive for the restaurant and quality, also came with chicken topping which was not stated nor wanted as I only eat fish. Coffee was horrid and came and took forever. Service was disjointed, tables were old and tired, set-up was random and not what is expected with the type of prices they are asking…water glasses were even dirty. Ordered the salmon which was overdone and small portion and again in the wrong price range. Should have stuck with the traditional fish and chips, would say next time…but there will not be a next time. Needs to sort out what it wants to be, can’t just place tables in a room, offer hap-hazard service and charge prices of a more high end establishment. Should have just watched the extra 100m to north- wharf….very disappointed.

I organised my sisters engagement party at Portside and it was fantastic! The friendly staff bent over backwards to help with everything and my sister and her fiance had the best night.
It doesnt take much to decorate the venue as it already has a stylish decor and the drinks were a reasonable price.
We drank them out of Portside bubbly (a must try!) and the delicious tapas they served were a treat.
I look forward to going back there asap for lunch.

Had lunch there yesterday 9/8/2012. Service was fast and friendly and the food was first rate. The caesar salad was full of flavour, the fish salad had a generous amount of nicely seasoned fish chunks in it and the dips were really tasty too. I could recommend this place happily.

We enjoyed a gorgeous lunch here this week. My salmon fillet was so beautifully presented, and flavours really good. I loved the light & flavoursome soy-based sauce so much, that I wished there was more on the dish! Lovely presentation, with ‘needle mushroom & miso microsalad’, and served with potato gratin.

My partner was loving his Fish & Chips, which were fresh, and crisp (apparently… as he wouldn’t let me try any!).

Excellent service from the wait staff. Professional and friendly.

It’s a lovely view from the french windows, across the waters towards the Viaduct apartments, with the city buildings looming behind.

Also good was the parking, as we just zoomed up and parked right outside the door.

We’ll definitely be back :)

Got a deal voucher and went in for dinner this week. The location is great, the fit out comfortable and the service could not be faulted. We had an entree as well as the breads and mains of lamb and beef. The food was fresh, tasty and well presented. The ahi katsu entree-salmon and gurnard sushi style was enough for a meal, fresh and very good. The lamb was served with tasty parmesan and olive crumb. The risotto balls were yummy and the mash and jus complemented it well. The steak with halumi and potato cake was melt in the mouth tender. All in all a place to return too with or without a discount voucher.

Me and my wife had a lovely lunch at portside this weekend(16/06).

The waitress was very friendly and the food full of flavour (I had a winter fish salad and my wife a crispy calamari salad).very nice and cosy atmosphere with a warm fire place, perfect place to sit once it was a cold day outside.

Thanks to the team for the great hospitality, we will definitely be back for more.

We recently got a deal voucher for 2 breakfasts and 2 drinks at Portside Restaurant, 132 Halsey Street.
When we arrived we went to the cashier and asked for a table. She asked if we were using a voucher. We were given menus which we took to our table. After some time we had to go up to the cashier and order our meals, again I was asked by a different cashier if we were using a voucher. We were told that one of the meals we ordered had run out. We got our meals, had to wait for cutlery. We then asked again for our drinks which came soon after. We noticed we were treated totally different to other customers. We observed other customers meals, the exact same meals we ordered and noticed they were considerably larger than our meals. Also the service other customers got was very good. My iced chocolate consisted of a glass half full of ice, chocolate syrup poured in, filled with milk and a scoop of ice-cream and a straw. Not quite what I expected. We have purchased several deal vouchers before, and have to say this was very very disappointing. We will certainly not be returning to this place. It is disappointing we were treated this way.

Mar 2013!! Pity updated reviews arent listed according to date as this would give a more recent opinion of establishments visited.
Came after the lunchtime rush to a very quiet restaurant.
The girls were lovely. Very friendly and attentive. Our lunch was terrific. Highly recommend the garlic bread. The best we have ever had, the prawn entree had lovely flavour and the salad again was delicious. Thanks PORTSIDE for another great dining experience. Again I wish you well for your future trading.
Mar 2012 We had a lovely brunch here, (with a voucher). Staff were very attentive and friendly. My eggs Florentine were close to perfect and hubbys big breakie was quite adequate. I liked the idea that it was a kransky type sausage, had no problem with the crispy, not soggy, hashbrown, the tomatoes were oven roasted so full of flavour. What do you want you people. Go to the local pub if you just want a huge breakie of sausage & eggs. This was a lovely setting and the iced coffee/chocs were delicious. Very happy. Thank you.

Hmmm.

Well….the hospitality was great. Staff was friendly.
Hmmm…
I can’t really blame the staff because I do believe that they are quite new. We waited for 1 hour for our meal. I thought viaduct restaurants always take a long time to serve but after waiting for 45 minutes I finally asked and the girl serving there …didn’t want to tell me that she forgot but “asked me to reconfirm” my order.

But I don’t really care aye..because it was sunny and it was nice to be out in the sun and we got an entree on the house because of the long wait.

I mean..the staff there is trying to do their best. But I do question their efficiency….yeah the review below is right in that everyone is working hard-out but …nothing was getting done….so it was a very strange experience.

But the food….I think it was just ok. Nothing particular special….bad or good…I can’t really judge.

so Meh..

What a joke! It was like being at Faulty Towers! We got told to sit where we wanted, but all the empty tables were dirty and hadnt been cleared. Had to ask for one to be cleared, then had to ask for it to be wiped down, then had to ask for menus and drinks. No one was available to serve when we went to pay, there appeared to be lots of people working but not getting much done. People would come in, and wait, and then just leave. The poor people sitting by the coffee machine, got a whole container of coffee beans spilt over them and in their food. We even had to ask to pay! Wont be back

Thank you to the awesome chef who cooked me a “made to order” Falafel Wrap today to take away (even when they were busy!) -I had been craving it all morning and it was PERFECT.

Our family has been here before, and really enjoyed the food – it’s ALWAYS great.
Based on the previous review though, we emailed to make the booking and requested that we have a really good waiter or waitress, as the dinner for 10 people was for a surprise birthday – so we wanted it to be special.

We received a very warm phonecall in response to the message. He assured us that he would give us an excellent waiter.

True to their promise, our waiter was polite, professional, friendly, and got all of our orders spot on. They even gave a complimentary juice to a pregnant member of our group.

The food was outstanding as always.
Everyone enjoyed their mains, and also the desserts.

A warm, relaxed atmosphere meant we had a fantastic time!

I would highly recommend Portside.

I was extremely disappointed with the Portside Brasserie.

Having ordered the Old Favourite Big Breakfast it arrived with ONE slice of bacon (!) stone cold mushrooms, a hash brown, 2 minuscule sausages , half a tomato,1 slice of white store-brought bread toasted and 2 boiled eggs, even though I had requested poached. I also ordered a side of baked beans (about 1/2 cup for $3)which I was grateful for given the scant serving of my meal. The waitress removed the eggs promising that she would bring me poached (such a shame that she couldn’t have also brought cutlery, which after waiting some time for, we eventually had to find for ourselves)however the delay for the replacement eggs was so great that by the time they arrived we were collecting our bags to go.

Upon paying it became clear that I was expected to pay full price, despite the fact that we were paying to the same waitress who had served us, so I again pointed out the inadequacies of my breakfast and the cost of the baked beans was grudgingly deducted leaving me to pay full price ($17)for the meal and still waiting for an apology for the poor service and food.

It’s unfortunate that such a nicely positioned restaurant is let down by such woeful service and poor (well what there was of it) food. We would definately not recommend that others dine at the Portside Brasserie.

This is my parents’ favourite restaurant.
My own three favourite things include the incredibly easy parking out front – which is very unique for a city restaurant; the lovely views across the water from the sunny outdoor seating during brunch; and the cosiness inside during winter.

My only complaint is that I don’t find the chairs very comfortable, and on just one occasion we had a fairly incompetent waitress. Usually the staff a excellent though, and my favourite meal so far has been the Mongolian Chicken.
