We recently got a grab one voucher for 2 breakfasts and 2 drinks at Portside Restaurant, 132 Halsey Street.
When we arrived we went to the cashier and asked for a table. She asked if we were grab one. We were given menus which we took to our table. After some time we had to go up to the cashier and order our meals, again I was asked by a different cashier if we were grab one. We were told that one of the meals we ordered had run out. We got our meals, had to wait for cutlery. We then asked again for our drinks which came soon after. We noticed we were treated totally different to other customers. We observed other customers meals, the exact same meals we ordered and noticed they were considerably larger than our meals. Also the service other customers got was very good. My iced chocolate consisted of a glass half full of ice, chocolate syrup poured in, filled with milk and a scoop of ice-cream and a straw. Not quite what I expected. We have purchased several grab one meal vouchers before, and have to say this was very very disappointing. We will certainly not be returning to this place. It is disappointing we were treated this way.

We had a lovely brunch here, (with a voucher). Staff were very attentive and friendly. My eggs Florentine were close to perfect and hubbys big breakie was quite adequate. I liked the idea that it was a kransky type sausage, had no problem with the crispy, not soggy, hashbrown, the tomatoes were oven roasted so full of flavour. What do you want you people. Go to the local pub if you just want a huge breakie of sausage & eggs. This was a lovely setting and the iced coffee/chocs were delicious. Very happy. Thank you.

We had voucher from Grabone

The first waitress who served us was polite and clarified what came with the voucher.

The second waitress who served the coffee literally banged it on the table.

We had the big breakfast for both of us and honestly it is definately not $17 full price. I mean if you really think, McCain hash browns, champagne ham, tiny sausages and store brought bread is something you look forward early morning in a nice location than all means go for it.

Both if you want to come for wow breakfast with difference then this is definately not the place to be.

Did I mention that there was no chutney/dipping either with the big breakfast.

All in all, great location, decent service and ordinary food.

Oh and finally, the coffee was bitter too

Hmmm.

Well….the hospitality was great. Staff was friendly.
Hmmm…
I can’t really blame the staff because I do believe that they are quite new. We waited for 1 hour for our meal. I thought viaduct restaurants always take a long time to serve but after waiting for 45 minutes I finally asked and the girl serving there …didn’t want to tell me that she forgot but “asked me to reconfirm” my order.

But I don’t really care aye..because it was sunny and it was nice to be out in the sun and we got an entree on the house because of the long wait.

I mean..the staff there is trying to do their best. But I do question their efficiency….yeah the review below is right in that everyone is working hard-out but …nothing was getting done….so it was a very strange experience.

But the food….I think it was just ok. Nothing particular special….bad or good…I can’t really judge.

so Meh..

What a joke! It was like being at Faulty Towers! We got told to sit where we wanted, but all the empty tables were dirty and hadnt been cleared. Had to ask for one to be cleared, then had to ask for it to be wiped down, then had to ask for menus and drinks. No one was available to serve when we went to pay, there appeared to be lots of people working but not getting much done. People would come in, and wait, and then just leave. The poor people sitting by the coffee machine, got a whole container of coffee beans spilt over them and in their food. We even had to ask to pay! Wont be back

Breakfast a little on the small size for value though…
Beautiful position to look at the marina from!

Thank you to the awesome chef who cooked me a “made to order” Falafel Wrap today to take away (even when they were busy!) -I had been craving it all morning and it was PERFECT.

Our family has been here before, and really enjoyed the food – it’s ALWAYS great.
Based on the previous review though, we emailed to make the booking and requested that we have a really good waiter or waitress, as the dinner for 10 people was for a surprise birthday – so we wanted it to be special.

We received a very warm phonecall in response to the message. He assured us that he would give us an excellent waiter.

True to their promise, our waiter was polite, professional, friendly, and got all of our orders spot on. They even gave a complimentary juice to a pregnant member of our group.

The food was outstanding as always.
Everyone enjoyed their mains, and also the desserts.

A warm, relaxed atmosphere meant we had a fantastic time!

I would highly recommend Portside.

I was extremely disappointed with the Portside Brasserie.

Having ordered the Old Favourite Big Breakfast it arrived with ONE slice of bacon (!) stone cold mushrooms, a hash brown, 2 minuscule sausages , half a tomato,1 slice of white store-brought bread toasted and 2 boiled eggs, even though I had requested poached. I also ordered a side of baked beans (about 1/2 cup for $3)which I was grateful for given the scant serving of my meal. The waitress removed the eggs promising that she would bring me poached (such a shame that she couldn’t have also brought cutlery, which after waiting some time for, we eventually had to find for ourselves)however the delay for the replacement eggs was so great that by the time they arrived we were collecting our bags to go.

Upon paying it became clear that I was expected to pay full price, despite the fact that we were paying to the same waitress who had served us, so I again pointed out the inadequacies of my breakfast and the cost of the baked beans was grudgingly deducted leaving me to pay full price ($17)for the meal and still waiting for an apology for the poor service and food.

It’s unfortunate that such a nicely positioned restaurant is let down by such woeful service and poor (well what there was of it) food. We would definately not recommend that others dine at the Portside Brasserie.

This is my parents’ favourite restaurant.
My own three favourite things include the incredibly easy parking out front – which is very unique for a city restaurant; the lovely views across the water from the sunny outdoor seating during brunch; and the cosiness inside during winter.

My only complaint is that I don’t find the chairs very comfortable, and on just one occasion we had a fairly incompetent waitress. Usually the staff a excellent though, and my favourite meal so far has been the Mongolian Chicken.
