Long before we were all on the dog and bone, news only got as far as the Postman would roam. And early Glenfield was no exception – with a local Postman who truly made his mark on this route. An amputee on an account of a timber saw milling tragedy, he was the type who refused to let life’s mishaps put him on the back foot. Fashioning a footless harness for his horse he ran letters between Birkenhead and Dairyflat and not a single dog nipping at his ankle flustered him in all of 16 years. So before the last leg of your journey home take a load off and enjoy our food and drinks – what ever you choose we know you can’t put a foot wrong. Come enjoy the best address in town.

The good:
Great refurb on the old Glenfield Tavern. Nice atmosphere. One of the most family-friendly bars in Auckland. I’m really impressed with what they have done, being a local.
The Average:
I’ve eaten there several times. Meals are just “Okay”. If you are after a good meal in a pub setting, you’d be better off with Macs or the Belgian Beer in Takapuna. Postman’s food and beverage prices are on par with even Auckland Viaduct. I would call Postman’s over-priced.
The Bad:
The service is just appalling. The staff are nice enough. But it’s as if they have zero structure to their rounds. And when the place is busy, it gets on top of them in rather train-wreck fashion. I’m hesitant to blame the waiting staff for this. In watching them work, it seems to me that there really is no structure to how the floor is managed. And no one seemed to be in charge.
Latest Visit:
Party of four. Main restaurant area. Bar was rather full and running a quiz night that is broadcast over the entire open-plan area. Ordered drinks. 15mins later waitress came back with them and had got two of them wrong. One was a Heineken instead of the ordered Tiger, no biggy. But the other order was a specialist beer that was substituted with a Cider. That one went back. But had to wait another 15 minutes before one of us got up and went to find someone and we were told they were out of stock. Ordered bread as a starter for the table, and four meals. Meals came out (rather quickly). Bread never arrived. One of the meals was a small instead of the ordered large. Complained about both and had the bill adjusted.
Conclusion:
Definitely a great place for a few drinks. Especially outside on a sunny day and even more-so if you have kids. Not a place for date night or a decent dinner. If it’s busy, I would go elsewhere for a meal simply based on the MorePrice/Quality/Service combo being so unattractive.

Went here today for a casual catch up with friends and kids. There were about 20 of us, all eating and some drinking so one would think they appreciated to have us there (the place was empty otherwise). They were happy to take all of our orders of food and drinks, not once communicating their conditions of service for the day (Easter Sunday). Once most of us had left and we were finishing our beers (which they happily served to us after we ate), a waitress asked us in a rude manner to leave and settle the bill as we were there too long and they as well as us could be fined thousands. We told her she was rude in her way of approaching us, so she got out her servicing conditions, reading them to us and highlighting the fact that people weren’t allowed to drink and loiter…. Considering that they were happy for us to order food AND drinks, being called loiterers while trying to finish our drinks was pretty much the rudest service I have ever received. This place should’ve displayed their conditions of service for everyone to see and communicated these to all of us BEFORE we ordered our food and drinks. We would’ve happily complied. They didn’t mind taking all of our orders and money! We will make sure to loiter somewhere else in the future!

I also got a sneak peek at the new menu that is getting launched in the next day or so I must say from the looks of it Well done guys(Chef) a nice warm menu for the coming months of winter can’t wait to try the new flavours with a bit of asian influence sounds yummy and know doubt it will be. Keep up the good work from a Local, and on behalf of my wife children and friends thanks a lot we felt really welcome 5 out of 5 stars again

The menu here reads like a really nice restaurant menu. With breads, tapas style ‘small plates’, sandwiches, pizza’s, steaks, standard pub food and the more upmarket meals, there certainly is something for everyone. Hapuka crouquettes, lamb ribs and salt and pepper squid…beautiful and nicely presented. Lamb ribs are a must! Pink, tender and full of flavour, they really are the standout. Pan fried Snapper was great and full of flavour only benefitting from a little more cooking time on the skin side to crisp it more. The steak which after some confusion on the menu was a scotch(rib eye, bone off), was perfectly cooked and a very tender piece of meat. Fish and chips was an excellent monster size piece of terekihi with a nice salad. We were offered a complimentary desert for the confusion with the steak. Not necessary but a nice gesture from management.
The staff here were knowledgeable and friendly.
There is a large selection of tap beers also, which is nice to see.
Look forward to our many return visits
