Long before we were all on the dog and bone, news only got as far as the Postman would roam. And early Glenfield was no exception – with a local Postman who truly made his mark on this route. An amputee on an account of a timber saw milling tragedy, he was the type who refused to let life’s mishaps put him on the back foot. Fashioning a footless harness for his horse he ran letters between Birkenhead and Dairyflat and not a single dog nipping at his ankle flustered him in all of 16 years. So before the last leg of your journey home take a load off and enjoy our food and drinks – what ever you choose we know you can’t put a foot wrong. Come enjoy the best address in town.

They have spared no expense on the renovations. The restaurant and bar has the same look and feel as the Elephant Wrestler. However, the food will let you down and so will the unfriendly staff. The meals are small portioned, under cooked and over thought food. You have to get your own drinks and wait for the staff to serve you.

Nice place. But stikes me as a bar with an identity crisis and poor floor management.

The good:
Great refurb on the old Glenfield Tavern. Nice atmosphere. One of the most family-friendly bars in Auckland. I’m really impressed with what they have done, being a local.

The Average:
I’ve eaten there several times. Meals are just “Okay”. If you are after a good meal in a pub setting, you’d be better off with Macs or the Belgian Beer in Takapuna. Postman’s food and beverage prices are on par with even Auckland Viaduct. I would call Postman’s over-priced.

The Bad:
The service is just appalling. The staff are nice enough. But it’s as if they have zero structure to their rounds. And when the place is busy, it gets on top of them in rather train-wreck fashion. I’m hesitant to blame the waiting staff for this. In watching them work, it seems to me that there really is no structure to how the floor is managed. And no one seemed to be in charge.

Latest Visit:
Party of four. Main restaurant area. Bar was rather full and running a quiz night that is broadcast over the entire open-plan area. Ordered drinks. 15mins later waitress came back with them and had got two of them wrong. One was a Heineken instead of the ordered Tiger, no biggy. But the other order was a specialist beer that was substituted with a Cider. That one went back. But had to wait another 15 minutes before one of us got up and went to find someone and we were told they were out of stock. Ordered bread as a starter for the table, and four meals. Meals came out (rather quickly). Bread never arrived. One of the meals was a small instead of the ordered large. Complained about both and had the bill adjusted.

Conclusion:
Definitely a great place for a few drinks. Especially outside on a sunny day and even more-so if you have kids. Not a place for date night or a decent dinner. If it’s busy, I would go elsewhere for a meal simply based on the MorePrice/Quality/Service combo being so unattractive.

Just been to the Postmans Leg which we have been to several times, tonight we had steak med to well as per norm, this time it was burnt black on the outside and not med inside at all, when we complained, we we advised we could have my husband’s one beer comped, I refused and asked for the manager the waitress spoke to the chef, he said there was nothing wrong with our steak it was char grilled, I asked again to speak with the manager he stuck with what the chef said, we as I said we have been several times and had the same thing, we are well informed adults and know what we should have been served. In the end the manager only asked us to pay for one meal, I ask is this good customer services, no. We paid for one meal and handed back our customer card, we will not be going there again, and will let our friends know the service we received.

Food ok, set up and atmosphere really nice but service shocking.
Went here today for a casual catch up with friends and kids. There were about 20 of us, all eating and some drinking so one would think they appreciated to have us there (the place was empty otherwise). They were happy to take all of our orders of food and drinks, not once communicating their conditions of service for the day (Easter Sunday). Once most of us had left and we were finishing our beers (which they happily served to us after we ate), a waitress asked us in a rude manner to leave and settle the bill as we were there too long and they as well as us could be fined thousands. We told her she was rude in her way of approaching us, so she got out her servicing conditions, reading them to us and highlighting the fact that people weren’t allowed to drink and loiter…. Considering that they were happy for us to order food AND drinks, being called loiterers while trying to finish our drinks was pretty much the rudest service I have ever received. This place should’ve displayed their conditions of service for everyone to see and communicated these to all of us BEFORE we ordered our food and drinks. We would’ve happily complied. They didn’t mind taking all of our orders and money! We will make sure to loiter somewhere else in the future!

What Can I say, Couldn’t wait to come back, brought along a few friends as well, We ordered a few entrees and about eight pizzas and of course the “Sam Pizza” just perfect, again good flavours and good friendly staff, I believe there are 2 ingredients in a successful restaurant and they are the Staff and Food, the staff are what make a place and the staff at postmans leg are just so inviting and friendly & top that with fantastic food and fantastic beer (I had the IPA a must have),You have yourselfs a successful business, Well Done.
I also got a sneak peek at the new menu that is getting launched in the next day or so I must say from the looks of it Well done guys(Chef) a nice warm menu for the coming months of winter can’t wait to try the new flavours with a bit of asian influence sounds yummy and know doubt it will be. Keep up the good work from a Local, and on behalf of my wife children and friends thanks a lot we felt really welcome 5 out of 5 stars again :) Good to see the place buzzing on a monday of all days….

Three generations attended TPL today and we were very impressed with our visit. The food was delicious and very generously portioned. The kids loved their pizza from the kids menu and my fish and chips were delicious. The service was amazing. The kids loved the sandpit, wide spaces and the colouring in pages. We could have happily stayed all afternoon-which is pretty rare with two preschoolers. So pleased that this is right on our doorstep, we will definitely be back again.

My husband and I popped in on Saturday for the first time! We loved it, very friendly staff and quick service – I note a review about the kids platter – I couldn’t spot that anywhere! A selection of kids meals would be great. Lovely atmosphere and surroundings! So nice to have a great place to eat out in Glenfield (especially for special occasions)!!

Visited the Postman’s Leg today for lunch. What a great setting, incredibly child friendly with a little sandpit for kids to play in and a great grass area for them to run around on. The refurbishment looks amazing and the staff were friendly. We had looked on the internet beforehand at the menus, but were surprised that the lunch menu online isn’t available on weekends (only Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays – nothing on the website says this) which was a little disappointing as we didn’t want to spend dinner menu prices at lunch but none the less, ordered anyway. I had the smoked chicken melt which was lovely, although there just seemed to be SO MUCH BREAD which was THICK and also toasted so it kinda cut my mouth up a bit. My fiancee’s beer battered fish and chips looked delicious and he said they were great. Only thing is, my melt was meant to come with chips and aioli, but the little ramekin of aioli was mostly made up of tomato sauce! None the less it was a pleasant Sunday lunch, maybe we’ll come back when our little one is a bit bigger.

This was my first visit to this location, which I read has had a big renovation. I don’t know how it looked before, but it’s really spacious and lovely, and the indoor/outdoor flow is an awesome atmosphere. The menu is varied and has some really delicious sounding items without coming across too pretentious. We were there on Wed. night so my partner got the $19.99 Steak Night special, and I ordered the pork ribs. He said his steak was good and that he’d easily pay full price for it, and my ribs were brought out on a wooden slab piled high in an awesome presentation, but they weren’t as tender as I would have liked, I’d probably rate them at 3 or 4 stars. Overall, we were impressed enough with the restaurant and staff to give it a few more tries and sample some more of the menu. Definitely nice to find a mid-priced placed in Glenfield with such relaxed and inviting atmosphere, and definitely above-par pub food.

FINALLY!!! A great place to go and eat in Glenfield. Walked in and the first question was “are we in Glenfield?” Wow. This is a huge step up from the old Glenfield Tavern. Well done
The menu here reads like a really nice restaurant menu. With breads, tapas style ‘small plates’, sandwiches, pizza’s, steaks, standard pub food and the more upmarket meals, there certainly is something for everyone. Hapuka crouquettes, lamb ribs and salt and pepper squid…beautiful and nicely presented. Lamb ribs are a must! Pink, tender and full of flavour, they really are the standout. Pan fried Snapper was great and full of flavour only benefitting from a little more cooking time on the skin side to crisp it more. The steak which after some confusion on the menu was a scotch(rib eye, bone off), was perfectly cooked and a very tender piece of meat. Fish and chips was an excellent monster size piece of terekihi with a nice salad. We were offered a complimentary desert for the confusion with the steak. Not necessary but a nice gesture from management.
The staff here were knowledgeable and friendly.
There is a large selection of tap beers also, which is nice to see.
Look forward to our many return visits

Really very good…. Service was smiley and welcoming, the food was fast and excellent for a busy sunny, Sunday afternoon. The coke chicken nibbles, the Hapuka croquettes – mmm… delicious, and very reasonable prices. Well done on the renovation, a lot of different spaces for people to relax and enjoy. Also, I like the story of The Postman with one leg going from Birkenhead to DairyFlat. We will definitely go back for more.

Service was good, food was average, the snapper fettuccine was average with the pasta stuck together in clumps, the seafood pizza was soggy and base undercooked with no taste. Portions were generous though. Noise level was uncomfortable for intimate diners. We won’t be back, unfortunately for us, as it’s a local venue we would have liked to make our own.
