Service was absolutely terrible, the male manager was so rude and could not have been any more unhelpful. Some of the family travelled 45mins, for rubbish service, a very noisy atmosphere and average coffee.
On a positive note the hot chip were very nice and the kids could play on the play ground. But I won’t be going back again!
We were in a large group with children. Drinks orders taken & delivered promptly. The manager (I believe) came over to say they’d take the kids orders first as there were more people booked in & they thought the kids would be best served first to keep them happy. Nice thought.
Then the adults orders were taken & arrived after the kids had finished but that worked out ok. Hubby doesn’t like pork, lamb or meat on the bone so was a bit limited for choice (his fussiness probably though!). Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal though my lamb pattie was very salty!
My sisters first coffee was nice but she took her second back as it tasted burnt – a common thing with other reviewers I see.
Was surprised that for a cafe with a playground, they had no change table in the toilets – I had to change my boy on the cold concrete floor. But they had high chairs & they brought me some hot water for his bottle so I can’t complain!
I had eggs benedict and it was delicious…good size and plenty of bacon, top marks !!! My two friends had the venison burger and they were happy with it. Coffee was very nice…not overly hot, but still good and not burnt. The service was good and very friendly…So far, will be back again.
We dined there on Saturday 8 March for lunch…. No champagne available, 3 key menu items not available and poor service right from the get go. When our salmon salads arrived, they were average at best.
We also stopped into the shop and got terrible service from a short haired, middle age lady. I had to interrupt her personal conversation to part with some money and god forbid, actually buy some products.
After being such fans for a good 6 months, I won’t make any attempt to go back at all, and can’t recommend it to anyone.
The second time was worse. We took our family from America there. That was a mistake. The first thing the waitress told us was that there were no chicken strips, no sausages to go in the breakfas,t and no fish. Offputting to say the least at 11′ish in the morning, particularly when we visited the shop attached to find that they had sausages and chicken for sale. Maybe the cafe could have borrowed some to tide them over ??? The next fiasco was the drink. They advertise Coke (you know the universal Coca Cola….), but when we ordered it they said they only had diet Coke and they were changing their drinks to Phoenix drinks. Service not brilliant, food average and expensive – not enough selection in the food cabinet forcing customers to order a meal at a higher cost, rather than having some ready to go food. There are many other cafes with better service and food/prices – we will go elsewhere next time.
Was in a group of 7 – we ordered meals & drinks about 25 minutes after arriving once the waitress finally came over… so a bit of a wait to get attention at first.
I had the pork dish – was notified the kitchen was out of beans, so took it, kind of wished I hadn’t of taken it – think the beans were the main part of the dish. It was 11am, and I had ordered something off the lunch menu, and to be out of the essential part of the dish was a bit of a concern.
Our drinks never arrived & we had to follow up – they had lost our order, and were on the house – and the coffee was good! So that made up for the 1 hour wait on coffee.
Average service. Average food. Good coffee. Good setting.
Cafe was about half full. There were a couple of reserved signs and a fair few spare tables.
Stood around for about 10 minutes trying to get the attention of the staff. Finally managed to catch the eye of one of the staff and politely enquired if we could sit at one of the tables without a reservation sign. We were asked if we had a reservation to which we reiterated that we hadn’t. The waitress remarked that there was no chance of us getting a spot to eat. This was conveyed to us in a most impolite manner – bordering on rudeness. We were made to feel most unwelcome and so left.
The only redeeming thing I could add from this most unpleasant experience was the presence of the gift store which was well stocked and the staff were very polite and helpful.
Visited December 2012
However, we found the shop was excellent and the kids play area was also very nice and well maintained.
We will assume this was a ‘not so good’ day at the cafe and may well go back sometime in a few months
We were welcomed with smiles as we walked in and were told to sit anywhere we liked.. it was busy but we were happy to see a empty table out in the sun. We had cold water and menus brought out to us instantly and the waiter was attentive and efficient. I ordered a coffee which was unlike me as I am fussy with coffee and have been constantly disappointed around town so normally opt for a cold drink.
I’m glad I did order it because the coffee was great! very well made, so well that I had a second!
I ordered the steak sammie and my wife got the pulled pork Taco. While waiting for our meal another table of woman sat out in front of us and I could just see that it was going to be an “difficult” table and was bound to provide some wait time entertainment… Which it did.. A low flying Plane on final approach to Hamilton airport was lucky to avoid dragging his undercarriage on the tip of one woman’s nose as she pointed out to her friends the prices of the dishes and what was wrong with the menu… while ordering they continued to show how much better they were than the rest of the world to the young waitress who dealt with them very well and professionally.. probably better than I would have that’s for sure.. well done to her and she could work for me in hospo any day! Our meals showed up in very good time and were very well presented. Both meals were very tasty and well worth the price. I think people tend to forget that they pay a little more for table service which is not something that every Cafe offeMorers and menu prices should not be compared between those that do and those that don’t. All in all lovely sunny well set up venue, good food great coffee and a very nice little country shop/ice cream stall. Great attention to detail guys, I can see the hard work that has gone into it.
Well done and keep up the good work. We will definitely be back.
Wrong. The service was OK but certainly not what I would class as friendly. The wait wasn’t too bad for our food to come out but most of the dishes were either obviously BURNT or seriously over cooked! I am guessing that’s why the wait wasnt so bad as they were probably already on plates waiting for someone to order them. My “slow cooked” lamb was so tough that I couldn’t even bite through it. ‘
Seriously disappointed, went there once, will never go again.
Loved the coffee – we had 2!
My partner ordered pork and was impressed with the meat but especially the flavours of his relish and Winter slaw. I had scallops, when I ordered I was told the portion was small, I choose to proceed with the choice. Was I pleased? Oh yes they were Divine.
Thank you, for the nicest coffee and cafe lunch we have had in sometime.
We will not be back
Last weekend my husband took my two boys there and they had lunch. They ate outside at the tables near the trampoline.Food was ok,portions a bit small .The boys loved the play area.
Today we all went there. We went up to the counter to order and was asked where we were sitting. We told them outside next to the play area. They said sorry but under council regulations we cant serve meals out there you’ll have to eat inside. We thought it very odd as my husband and boys had eaten out there last week so we said we’d leave.
Went back outside so the boys could have a quick play before we left and lo and behold! The waitress bought food out to one of the outside tables. So,we questioned her and she said she was sorry and didnt know what to say.
The management at this place need to ensure the same rules apply for everyone!!We will not be back!!
My favourite dish is the scallops – they are devine.
Wait for food was over 30 minutes.
My dish was nice (the salmon), however my partners pork belly was dry and over-cooked, while the accompanying salad was drowning in dressing.
The place is in a nice setting, however the service and food is a let-down.
We went to take my Father for a coffee for Fathers Day along with my Mother and 3 children.
We had made a reservation which was inside but asked if we could move outside as it was a lovely day. We weren’t allowed to sit out by the playground for some reason although there were a heap of people out there when we left.
Coffee was nice but basically our waitress was so short with us, impatient and unfriendly. She took our order and never came back to ask us how everything was going although she went back to the table next to us 3 times while we were there and she also said very obviously so that we could hear to the table next to us “Your my favourite table”. How pathetic!
We were waiting on muffins (which I asked about) in which she replied “You never ordered them from me”. We did.
SHe must have moaned to her Boss on the counter because she was just as unfriendly when I went to pay.
Yes they were busy and rushing around as it was Fathers Day but that doesn’t give them any excuse to treat their customers like they’re doing US a favour so it pretty much ruined our Fathers Day morning tea. CHeers!
Won’t go back.
We will definitely be back and will take friends to enjoy the cuisine with us.
All round a great experience – Thank You
Having 3 young children, my partner just went and found a table outside so that they could get settled and I asked for menus at the counter – the 4 wait staff that were standing around doing nothing just ignored me and the lady who was obviously in charge told me to wait a minute. This caused raised eyebrows between myself and another customer just because of the tone in which it was said. (I didn’t even notice the sign telling people to wait to be seated that was down by my feet, not so easy to see when you walk in and people are at the counter, maybe one at eye-level as well would be helpful?)
When asked if I had a reservation I said no (I could count at least 10 empty tables inside and out), then it took about a minute of the lady in charge to consult her diary, check with a waiter what the time was, consult her book a little longer, look a little bit more important then sigh and tell me we could sit on the table that my partner was already at. Phew! Thanks.
I then still wasn’t allowed to take menus, these had to be taken to the table by a waitress – even though I saw lots of other people taking their own menus.
The service of the waitress was ok, and the food when it came was fine – hard to go wrong with mushrooms on toast and my partner’s scallops were lovely. The kids menu could be a bit more inventive, just the obligatory chicken nuggets etc. but the play area was awesome for them.
But unfortunately the attitude of the lady at the counter killed the experience. Even when I went to pay she didn’t give me any eye contact or smile. Being in the industry myself, I would never dream of making a customer feel so unwelMorecome and even though the food was good, we won’t be going back.
