I have visited several times, the owner is incredibly approachable and the character of the restaurant is true to its name – quirky. A little bit magical and brings back childhood memories of long car rides to far away beaches and stopping by somewhere for a big ice-cream and some lollies. Reasonably priced, it is always hard to decide what to order though! Whilst some things on the menu I wouldn’t have again, there are some that truly hit the spot! Great concept. (:

Thought we’d try this after hearing good reviews. Friendly service, but the food was so very average. The smoothie was more like passionfruit flavoured milk, the lemon meringue pie was abysmal (grainy meringue and hard grainy filling, not lemony at all), the choc fudge cake was the best but not great. We won’t be back, will stick with the restaurants and pay a little more.

Been to Quirk twice now with two groups (about 6-8 people each time). Booking in was fine, but arrived on one occasion to find that although we had booked for 8, there was only enough seating for 6. We had to go around the other diners and ask for their spare chairs!

Overall staff were friendly and atmosphere good. I wasn’t so fussed on the desserts personally (paying $10 for something pretty average when the restaurants along the street do something much more memorable for $12) but the kids I was with absolutely loved it and raved about it for weeks afterwards.

So in short: great place for kids: will go again with kids but will go elsewhere for my own dessert!

Quirk is a great place. I’m not a dessert eater myself, but I have sat there and observed my children devour their ginormous sundaes and wondered whether they’d get through them (they did). The service is friendly and upbeat, the staff young, and the decor great. I’m laughing when I am reading through some of the negative comments – these old grumps need to build a bridge and get over it. What do you expect for the moderate price? Obviously silver service so you have taken a wrong turn bigtime. Please take your boring small minded attitude somewhere else (like Paris where you’ll find your expected Michelin stars and snooty waiters aplenty). Quirk is exactly what its name portrays…a fun “Quirky” environment. Bring it on, Quirk, you’ve put a fresh new, YOUNG face on Howick and given our kids somewhere to look forward to. Well done, you.

Our family loves what Quirk has brought to the main street of Howick – great desserts, a wonderful environment and warm friendly service. As a coffee lover I should also mention the coffee which is as good as any I’ve tried in Howick. Quirk is great for after-school dates with our kids or a quiet end to an evening out with dessert. We love the quirky decor which adds so much to the experience. Owner is totally approachable and adds so much personality to the place. Thanks Quirk!

This is definitely a quirky place with a visual feast as well as too many sugary things to choose from. My family love this place for ice-creams and desert and have found a clean environment with friendly staff and quick service.

This fun, laid back, nostalgic, quirky little shop quickly became one of our families favorite places to be! It works for a date night with my hubby, or a place to treat my boys, or just meet friends. Menu is creative and yummy, lollies galore and great coffee. Rather your going to settle in for a while to escape and read or need an oasis with a loved one, or just need to stop in for a quick treat….Quirk is a must. Thanks quirk for a great place to hang out and yummy desserts!!!

Buzz bar sundaes. Need I say more! K bars… Fudge… Cheap! Relive my childhood every time I visit. Love the decor too, truly quirky. If only it wasn’t so popular or this introvert would spend every night there ;)

My second visit to Quirk ‘Desgust’.

First time – I went there the older serving person (assuming the owner or manager), stopped to pick up ice cream dropped on the floor; scooped it up with her hands off the floor, flicked it in the bin – then carried on making ice cream for others without washing her hands – eww yucky!!!

After a lovely main at another Howick restaurant decided to try again – what a mistake.

Admittedly a busy Friday night but… there was an empty table with plates, ice-cream bowls, etc. still there, I told my daughter to sit in the booth, but was told by the young server to wait and they would clear the table for us. While we stood there ordering – people came in and sat at the table – the young server looked at us and said “I’ll go and get someone to sort it out”. My partner then suggested we could sit at another table that had the reserve sign, just for a few minutes – that was a “no, they might be coming along any minute”. Out came the person who was “sorting it out”, who looked at us and said we could have a take away. Still didn’t seem to bother them when we said we wouldn’t bother ordering if we couldn’t eat in. Wandered past 10 minutes later and still no one sitting in the reserved seat.

Winters coming – with completely mediocre overpriced product, no service and a slightly grubby looking presentation on all surfaces (already), doubt they will make their second summer!

Won’t be back again.
ps Having to give at least one star to post – would give less if I could!

Don’t you hate how people come on this site to moan!!?? I bet there are 30 great experiences to every negative one – take my experiences for example – WE LOVE QUIRK!! I have been to Quirk about 6 times this year with various friends – rather than ‘coffee dates’ we go on ‘ice cream’ dates! I’ve shared a banana split many times – they are HUGE and very IMPRESSIVE. Don’t let the tiny entrance fool you, Quirk is original, QUIRKY, fun and delicious. Do try it, and don’t go 5 minutes before closing!! The staff are only human so get tired at the end of a shift… wouldn’t you?? Love Quirk and their “morbidly obese jaffas!” :) :) :) :) :) 5 stars!

Just been to quirk for dessert. The menu looked delicious with plenty of variety but our overall experience was disappointing. We had Classic Citron tart found to be very small, dry and flavourless plus we also had a Butterscotch Parfait which was totally flavourless and no hokey pokey pieces were to be found but plenty of chocolate chips. The cream was artificial, how hard is it to whip up fresh cream. Family friendly, quirky decor but wont be back in a hurry.

Your service is abysmal – second time there, same as before, long wait, plenty of eye contact but no action – eventually we left without the dessert my wife was craving. Sorry but we won’t be giving you a third chance!!

Hi David. We are so so sorry you had to wait for a dessert. We can only apologise profusely. We are implementing a process where we tell people approx how long the wait is when they order. Adding more staff would mean my doors would close. Again, we are very…    More »

I had heard some good things about Quirk so I wanted to try the experience………..My wife and I (not young things, so perhaps that was the problem?) entered the place 10 minutes before closing and upon ordering, was told, curtly and with a stony face – no smile, “It is takeaway from now on, that will be $’s.” My wife made payment, unfortunately, I would have gone somewhere else. Her money was received (for two ice creams, only) and then the woman assistant turned and proceeded to process payments from half a dozen departing diners who had only just appeared ….without uttering a word. She was totally at sea with the pricing and took more than 15 minutes dealing with others. My wife eventually got served sans apology and we ate on the street. Badly done Quirk – you are in retail – you treat the customer properly or the word will get around. Smile and be courteous, put a closed sign up and explain sweetly that the place is closed to orders and do not accept the customer’s payment…. But not before the advertised closing time. Serve the first person first and if the wait is unacceptable, as it was on this occasion, communicate with the customer waiting, and apologise. You may stay in business longer…

Hi Mal, we do have a policy of only takeaways from quarter of any hour before close. We are also training a few new staff on the till, so perhaps she was overly nervous. But this is absolutely no excuse for bad service! We apologise profusely that you had such a…    More »

Unfortunately becoming a victim of its own popularity. To make a reservation they instruct u to leave a message they never return. When a booking is made, they don’t keep your table available despite arriving early. Booking is meaningless. Join the ruck outside and take your chances

Quirk is the place to be, the service is the best, the coffee is the best, the smoothies are the best, did I say the coffee yummy.

The vision Quirk has is just amazing, it really is and so relaxed, and when I take my little girl her eyes light up when she sees her treat , and when she gets to pick some lollies she sees herself in a fairy tale

It is an amazing and funky set up I definitely recommend it

I was so excited to go here, as I’d heard about it from friends. When I got there, I was blown away by the cuteness and amazing decor. I struggled with trying to choose what to eat because there was so much deliciousness. I got a banana split, hubby got parfait and my friends got sorbet, coffee and chocolates. Amazing. And such a decent price. I live in Mt Roskill and will definitely be taking the trip out there again. Great for taking friends for a special treat and then going for a walk on Cockle Bay.

Been to Quirk a ‘few’ times, and every time it hits the spot. Keep going back because it is so reasonably priced and kid friendly. Yesterday I had the most amazing passionfruit smoothie. Perfectly delicious on a hot afternoon!
