14 Reviews for Ra Cafe & Bar
Upon arriving at Ra cafe & Bar with a friend for lunch on Sunday 7/4/13 it was immediately clear that there was no ‘order’ about the place. We entered and a staff member said hi, but were left thinking “do we wait here? or up there? (another counter), do we sit and wait?”
We chose to sit, after making eye contact with all three visible staff so they at least knew we were there. We sat and after a couple of minutes a male member of staff acknowledged us and said he would be back soon to take our order. During this time we sat and waited and witnessed complete disorganisation. Eventually a female waitress came over and took our order. I ordered Eggs Benedict and Juice and my friend ordered the french toast and water.
We were not told of any expected wait, although I did overhear a staff member advise another party that there would be a 30 minute wait.
50 minutes later, our meals finally arrived, except my juice. The meals were very average. The hollindaise sauce was not comparable to others I have tasted. Very bland, tasted of butter, and was more yellow than a traditional hollindaise. Have to wonder if it is was store bought. If made fresh at the Cafe someone is using a bad recipe!! Also, I was suprised to find roast potatoes underneath the Eggs Benedict. I have never experienced this before. The menu did state served with “potato bits” but I thought this might have been mini hash browns or something.
We had pretty much finished our meals, 1 hour after ordering, when a waitress bought over my juice. I was a little taken aback that they even had the cheek to serve it to me after this long and I made a comment that it was a bit late. The waitress said simply “yeah i know, sorry”. Given our plates were empty and we had clearly finished I would have expected her to ask if I still wanted it.
I decided to leave the juice untouched and request it be excluded from the bill when paying.
WeMore went to pay and dealt with a girl who had just started her shift. I first asked if I could use my entertainment card for the meal, to which she replied yes and handed me the comment card. I started filling this out and then asked about removing the juice order. She said this was fine, but then abruptly snatched the comment card from under the pencil and stated I could no longer use the entertainment card. When I asked why she told me it was because without the juice the bill wouldn’t cost the minimum $35 to use the card. I corrected the waitress and advised that the $35 is an upper limit, not a minimum. After a small argument she rudely said “fine then” and gave back the comment card.
Absolutely disgusted with the service experienced here today and will not be going back.

Came here for tea not that long ago, ordered one thing but they came back to say that they didn’t have it. Asked for another thing and asked if it was popular, all i got back was a “it’s just pasta”. Had no interest in us or what she was doing, she was in a hurry to get back to her conversation with other staff. The meals did come out fast which was a plus side except my meal was very average and could quite have easily made a better one myself. Love the atmosphere but poor service.

Had to wait 15 minutes to be served when we arrived at the bar counter to order as the workers were talking with each other. Ordered an orange juice and pizza and the orange juice had a screwed up receipt in it and the waitress didn’t apologise and just removed the receipt and came back with the same glass of orange juice. The pizza was horrible and did not have the same ingredients as were listed on the menu and had very little toppings at all EXCEPT a huge pile of lettuce dumped on top of the pizza. Went to pay for the meal and they tried to charge different prices to what was advertised on the menu. Horrible service and bar, would not recommend to anybody.

Went here for tea last night- the service was terrible the meals took so long to get to the table. I asked for no cheese in my burger and it was full of it, so could only eat part of meal- didn’t dare send it back as might have to wait another 45 minutes. We couldn’t get any service for a coffee or a desert after the main.
The place wasn’t busy – hate to see the service if it was
We will not be going back here any time soon. about 45min to get meals just pathetic service

I came here for lunch and my first thought was that there was a huge amount of choice. The brunch menu was available till 3 and there was also tapas, light meals and gourmet pizzas to choose from on top of the lunch menu. I picked the crispy chicken wrap while my friend chose the pasta of the day, which was a salmon and pine nut pasta. The food was cooked quickly, although we went at a very quiet time. My meal was good and my friend thoroughly enjoyed her pasta. The service was good. Overall a pleasant experience, I would definitely return!
One word sums the meals up: HUGE!
We dropped in for a quick meal prior to a show at the Regent theatre which is virtually next door. My wife, who ordered blue cod and chips, was confronted with a trawler-load of beautiful fresh fish and enough chips to feed Ireland. My choice was pork ribs, and I’m sure the unfortunate pig had very few ribs left after providing my meal. Absolutely delicious, too. I like a big meal and I did, with difficulty, manage to demolish the ribs, but I left at least half the mountain of fries uneaten – a very rare occurence for me! Both meals were accompanied by a very attractive and tasty salad in a separate bowl. My only complaint is that due to the size of the meals, we had to rush through them in order to get to the theatre on time, but that was no reflection on the meal – it was a lack of judgment on our part. Friendly, courteous staff, too. Next time we’ll allow more time to enjoy, and there WILL be a next time.

I already knew that customer Service was unfashionable these days but didn’t realise quite how out of vogue it had become until I visited Ra Bar last weekend for brunch. The waitress who came to offer us pepper from one of those ridiculously huge pepper grinders carelessly swung it from my plate to my neigbours and in the process some pepper was dropped into my cup of tea. I pointed this out so she took away the (full) tea cup and brought me a clean empty one. I thanked her but asked what I should drink since she had just tipped out my cup and the pot was now empty so off she went with the pot to I assume make me a new brew, alas no she had simply topped up the old pot with the already used bag and as a liker of strong tea I suggested that it would now be too weak so could I get a new pot. She then spat at us that there wasn’t even any pepper in the original cup and stormed off cursing to any who would listen (customers and other staff) that we had the cheek to want a fresh pot. All in all added to the fact that you have to pay extra for things that are generally main ingredients of a meal, the eggs bene is $16.50 for a single egg on toast with hollandaise, $19.50 for two – if you want ham or bacon or spinach with it it’s $2 for each “extra” item the experience wasn’t that great which is a shame as the food itself while not fantastic wasn’t bad and would have been enjoyable had it not been for the crazy waitress who felt that a new teabag and some hot water was too much to ask. If a restaurant is that close to the break even line that it can’t afford an extra teabag (hmmm maybe 5c at a stretch) and some free water I guess I won’t need to worry about avoiding Ra Bar next time I’m down that way.

For a pre-movie meal this was a great option. Not always a fan of bar/restaurant combos but this is a goodie with relaxed atmosphere and good food and service. Had the lamb salad and good to see they didn’t skimp on the olives or the lamb. Only a short skip to the movies afterwards and a good night out. Enjoyed the Broken Shed vodka too – locally made and very very nice with cranberry!

Been here twice now for tea…had the pasta and then the steak. Both were really yummy!! The pasta was really reasonably priced too…and the entree size is very filling and enough for a main, i wouldnt be able to eat the main size. The steak was a little overpriced for what it was but was still really nice. Will be back!
