What a terrible experience, the food was very average with not a lot of taste at all, the chicken was extremely difficult to find, the Red Elephant has certainly had better days, the area outside the front could be nice if it was tidied up and some decent chairs and tables were put there, half of the plants were dead!!!

What has happened, has their been a change of ownership? the Red Elephant should smarten up its act if it wants to stay open!!

I went there last week. Love Phai Thai,Tom Yum Soup and Awesome whole of fish with lime sauce It’s not too spicy.I had a great time with kareoke. If you like to sing a song. Don’t miss RED ELEPHANT. That’s fantastic Thai food and good service. Let’s have a beautiful dinner!!!!!

This is possibly my favourite restaurant in Christchurch! I hate noisy places with polished floors, this is not- carpet, low acoustic tiled ceiling and plenty of space. The music is not too loud, in fact the most noise is usually from other (Kiwi) diners.
I have always found the service excellent, efficient and attentive without being a bother. There is rarely much of a wait, but I do like to order an entree to begin with in case it is a busy night.

The staff quickly begin to recognise you if you return, and greet you with much pleasure. The food is cooked by Thai chefs and is beautifully fresh, never overdone. I would warn about the fish with lime, however, It is VERY hot, even when “toned down”!

My absolute favourite is the “garlic and chilli” combination with chicken, beef or pork.
Red Elephant rice is to die for, very tasty and moreish. I always ask for Jasmine Tea to go with my meal. I have noticed a slight tendency to seat the Thai people away from the windows and I actually prefer to be on that side as the diners are quieter!
The restaurant can cater for quite large numbers but do book in as even on a “quiet” night they may be hosting a party. Karaoke from 9pm on Friday and Saturday.

I’ve been there on several occassions. Be prepared for a little wait but the food is fantastic.

Service is a bit slow.

Had a great meal here with four friends.
The food was very good – both with quantity and flavour! Our entrees were good but the selection of individual dishes was excellent and served hot in temperature a well as ‘spicyness’ – which is exactly what we requested.
The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was served at an excellent pace.
Highly recommended. We will return. Thoroughly recommended.

Went there twice, on both occassions service was poor. In the first visit the food came very late. Second occassion, although a good table was free by the window, we were given one facing the wall, and a big plant poking my face, with poor lighting corner. We ourselves moved to the next table and they were a bit disappointed with us, saying they would like to keep that table for the next guests!!! (didn’t make any sense, as we asked if it was reserved and they said no it was not, but just for other walk-in customers).

We went there quite often to have original Thai food. Very friendly staff there. May have to wait for a while on their busy night, better to ask for a set menu when you do a reservation.
