I dined at Riverbank Cafe a few weeks ago and was very disappointed.
The menu looked great and it was difficult to choose. The service was good but the waiter was a bit cheesy and over the top.
I ordered the steak done medium rare. It came out well done. When the waitress came over and asked how our meals were I told her and showed her. She suggested it might be better in the middle! I told her the middle was medium-well done and she just walked away! She didnt offer to replace it or an apology or anything.
I was dining with 2 others – one ordered the lamb which was very good, the other ordered the angus steak which was also overcooked.
We all had the creme brulee for desert which was average. We also thought it was strange that it was served with cheap vanilla icecream and raspberry sauce.
I will not be back and wont be recommending this place to anyone.

Service was fine, we were the only diners. I ordered the chicken pasta and it was spirals! They were undercooked as well. The sauce was very sweet although had a nice flavour. Overall it put me in mind of a maggi pasta snack, not good.

Went there for lunch last week. Good service, food aint bad. But i think they need to put some make up with the place.

Really great prawn starter, the best prawns I have ever had. The whole evening was great with good prompt service, delicious food with good portion sizes and prices. The place has only changed to Riverbank within the last few months and there were not alot of people there when we went, but hopefully this will change as it becomes more well known. This place really deserves a chance from anyone who loves great food.

FANTASTIC, this would quite easily be the best restaurant in lower hutt in my opinion. the food is well portioned, i had the scallops followed by the duck and then the creme brulee, scallops are a hard thing to get right, but these were perfect and the sauce with to die for, as for the duck, tender juicy and HUGE! I’m a big creme brulee fan this made me want to never eat a different one again is was amazing, out of the 7 of us their was not a single negative only lots of positive and many oohs and ahhs at the presentation. a definite recommendation.
