The cakes are out of this world, especially the Chocolate Whiskey. Steve and his team have catered from 10 to 150 for us. Faultless. Rocket Kitchen is a great company, a great Ponsonby icon and very well loved.

I bought a box of 12 chocolate cupcakes from Rocket Kitchen because of the positive rave reviews I was hearing from friends. My safe Go-To Cupcake store has always been Petal Cupcakes, but I thought this time I’ll try something new. Boy was I heavily disappointed. The cupcake looked absolutely scrumptious on the outside and it even had a Christmas theme going on which was great. But the ‘look’ meant nothing because it was overcooked and the cupcake itself was burnt. It tasted like it was pumped with gallons of baking soda. I hate to say it – but I could’ve bought a better box of decent Cupcakes from a torn down, half-arse looking bakery in South Auckland. I’ll be back to see you guys in three years, hopefully by then you would’ve perfected the art of baking – until then, I’ll be sticking to Petal Cupcakes from now on. Thanks a mill.

I ordered a chocolate whiskey cake for my partner for his birthday. It was amazing, moist and delicious. My only disappointment was I didn’t follow the instructions given to me and placed the cake in the fridge after the party. It meant the left overs were a little bit dry, my own fault though! I went back last week to get some savoury goodies for an afternoon tea and they were outstanding! The tea treats and sausage rolls were the best in Auckland in my humble opinion and the pizza was so tasty. I highly recommend Rocket Kitchen!

I ordered the Special Birthday carrot cake for my daughter’s birthday over the phone from Rocket kitchen and asked if the cake had any raisins or sultanas in it. i was reassured that Rocket Kitchen doesn’t use any of above in their carrot cakes. When we went to cut the cake at the birthday party – it was full of sultanas and my daughter couldn’t eat it at all due to an allergy. i called the Rocket Kitchen and spoke to the Owner, Steve who could not offer me any explanation why we were sold the cake we couldn’t eat and also i got the “message” from him that i was making it all up to claim some money back. Not good for the Rocket Kitchen and the cake which costed nearly $100!

I love rocket kitchen! Their date and orange scones are my favourite! Great service, expensive but good quality so it’s worth it.

This place is great for catering.
Famous amongst office-workers throughout the CBD for their AMAZING cakes . . . People hang out for the next person’s office birthday shout to come along . . .

As a lunch deli, they have a really good variety of salads . . . you know – the usual yummy Ponsonby flavoured things like olives, feta, sundried tomatoes. That sort of thing . . .
And then plenty of other hot lunch options and yummy dessert treats.
Takeaway of course . . . as it’s a deli.

I had one bad experience here . . . where the lady serving told me that it was perfectly okay for me to eat brie or feta or any cheese I wanted during pregnancy because it’s all pasteurized in NZ. I’ve since learned that this is totally not the case. So I was pretty annoyed with this advice from an apparent ‘food professional’ given with such conviction. Then she also assured me it would be fine to eat the chicken dish if it was heated up properly. She tried 3 times to heat it up enough in the microwave . . . (I actually went back to the shop with it – as I was eating stone-cold chicken . . .and it was still cold when I eventually gave up after 3 warm-up attempts and chucked most of it out, fearing that I had poisoned my unborn baby!)

So beware the temperature of food you have heated on the premises.

Apart from that wee blot on their record, it’s still a great place for non-pregnant people to go for lunch!
