We used Rosie O’Gradys to help fund raise for a Netball Tournament that we went to in February. We arranged a quiz night where we sold tickets for $20 each (and kept all of that money) and provided we had at least 100 people attend the event, they agreed to provide nibbles for each table, a bar tab for the winners of the quiz and also $1 off each drink that was purchased.

On the night we had 122 people and a large number of drinks were sold. Overall it was a very successful fundraiser due to ticket sales.

However – as of today, we are still waiting for the money that was promised from drink sales. We have visited and called a large number of times and keep getting fobbed off. 2 months down the track, we have lost all hope in getting the money that was promised and considering we managed to get in 122 punters into the bar that night (probably about 112 more than normal) we have been pretty disappointed with what’s happened.
While I will still say again that we appreciated Rosie’s for allowing us to do the quiz night, its pretty unfair of them to promise something and not deliver and because of this, I’m not likely to visit again, nor recommend it to anyone else.
If they weren’t able to give us $1 off each drink sold then they shouldn’t have promised this from the start.

Best pub in the mount in my opinion, great wide open space for bands, huge screen for sports, pool tables, beer garden is great, karaoke night is good fun on a Thursday although live music or jam nite would be better. Great specials on jugs of beers and a good range of tap and bottled beer, I really enjoy coming here, cheers guys, see you soon for a super jug or two!

I am a regular at Rosie O’Gradys, I was shocked to see comments below, especially from the member called ‘Dinny’. I love the Irish theme of the bar, one of the more authentic Irish Pubs in New Zealand. The library books and old posters add to that. In Ireland all the pubs have old story books. We were at Rosie’s on the 1st and they were so busy. we waited maybe 35 mins but considering it was so busy we expected that. They have turned there back yard into a beach which I have never seen before and the atmosphere was amazing. (I’m just glad I don’t have to clean all the sand up from inside). The food is just what you would expect at a pub. But the publican has done wonders for that place and even shouts the odd beer. I totally disagree with these comments and my husband calls it his Local and i also love going.

My comments are given as feedback for improvement and I hope useful observation from a customer’s view point.
On entering Rosie’s I was a little confused as to the overall theme- Irish I think not, which I didn’t actually mind being at the MOUNT. Definition of the “MOUNT” Beaches, sun /surf, swimming, sand, semi tropical & refreshing breezy & fun. Breakers are next door right? Definition of “Rosie’s” historically old stale faded mixy- matchy, unbalanced compartmental non-flowing – non inviting construction. Get rid of the excess in those cabinets and the glass cabinets, library books?… Unless you have some punters still around to tell their stories, are they even conversation pieces ? – Maybe some interps for those historic things of value- re-arrange them at least, is it a social venue or a museum? The beach theme added a concept of summer time holidays at the beach and was refreshing but that didn’t flow throughout the bar as the sand did.
We were served drinks, pleasantly chilled and timely, but for the 3-4 times to our table came the bar-person to remove empty vessels, not once did they notice the puddle forming from 3-4 sets of drinks each time- it got really wet. The menu was actually Irishy, and tempting and very reasonably priced, however the 1 hour wait for a plate of wedges was unacceptable. It seems the patrons in Rosie’s take a back seat to the meal orders made in the Breakers restaurant so we were told…. Our order was put to the side. Food should not be offered if it cannot be expected to be delivered in the order it is made and paid for?
The overall service was adequate but has potential to be great. I know this bar is making a comeback, are all staff on board with that? Service with a smile really does go a long way and putting in place basic standard practices would really benefit this bars’ future. It is about personality & vibe, the furnishing are less importanMoret when there are motivated personalities servicing customers. Take MacDonald’s and BP who use scripts to explore the possibility of a further potential sale per customer by simply asking “would you like fries with that order?”, can I wipe down your table? What makes a good bar?- good service. What makes a great bar?- great service. How do you get great service?- the selection of team players who are valued for their skills, experience and social personalities- after all you are in the business of hospitality…… from the manager to the kitchen-hand or chief to the Indian.

We entered the pub, which I must say could do with a bit of TLC, we went to the bar we said we had a deal voucher, for which we were entitled 3 pizzas with 6 drinks. After looking at the pizza selection, we chose out pizzas, however the bartender informed us we were left with the choice of 2 pizzas, a mixed meat and a vegetarian, this is because ingredients must be saved for ‘other’ customers, aren’t all customers important? especially if you are trying to recruit new customers by having the voucher deal in the first place!!!

We sat down outside, after having to switch chairs multiple times as the majority were cracked and broken, (a bit unsafe don’t you think), we waited to receive our pizza, it seemed to take a while, but when they did arrive we had to ask for cutlery and side plates, furthermore the pizzas were very overcooked, the edges were black, but we were past it, and wanted to eat our pizza then leave, so we dug in! and on first bite encountered a piece of hair in it, yuck! After informing the waiter they removed the pizza, no apology, no information as to whether they were going to replace it, just simply took it away without a word.

Thank goodness they actually replaced it and didn’t just pull it out like we were expecting by this point judging by what we had witnessed so far!!
We quickly ate the remaining pizza and left!

I would not recommend this place to anyone, I don’t know how they are still in business after what we experienced, I can assure you we will never be returning.

We ate here over Xmas holidays. Very disappointing, meals are cooked at Breakers (which is next door). And meals were not great! Only good thing was drinks, friendly staff and outside garden bar. We won’t be eating there again.
