We had a similar bad experience. We booked a table for Valentines and were seated at 7.30. Our order taken at 7.45. 8.10 a small appetiser arrived. It was then after 9pm before any mains arrived. This spoilt the mood of the evening. By this time we had finished the bottle of wine we brought to have with our meal . Firstly, I was given a dirty plate which I promptly brought to the waitresses attention, she then changed it. Rice was put on our plates, but the waitress went off to do other things, and we had no mains. The rice was cold, when one main arrived. This was the wrong meal. The second meal arrived but was also incorrect, not the spicy/hotness requested. We attempted several times during the evening to speak to the waitresses about the service and the wait, however they did not seem bothered. This was supposed to be a lovely evening for us, but it was spoilt by the bad service and incorrect meals. We did not want to stay in this restaurant and decided to leave and asked to speak to the manager. Unfortunately, she did not seem particularly bothered and we left the restaurant. We felt she made no real attempt or kind gesture to put things right. The Royal Thai need to make changes, and show that they value the customers dining in their restaurant!! I dont think we will be back!! Luckily we found another restaurant, albeit 10pm by this point, but they knew how to look after their customers and we were served a lovely meal with plenty of smiles.
Booked for 7.15 were seated and water and wine were served. They were busy but when someone else came in and were served straight away it was obvious we had be forgotten as 20 minutes had passed. Spoke to the waitress who came and took order. Another 15 minutes passed before entree was was served. The main course was served about 90 minutes after arrival Nice meal but nothing spectacular and the service was appalling. Will definitely not be going again.
We use this regularly for takeaway, always great tasting food with fresh, quality ingredients. The price is the only issue, very expensive compared to most Thai restaurants. But it doesn’t put us off obviously.

We dine out at Thai restaurants constantly and we always come back to our local the Royal Thai . I am so pleased that their dishes are generous in size and so yummy. We four family members get 5 different dishes and have a banquet that fills us right up. their sizzling plates are great.
We like to take a bottle of wine and a bottle of sparkling grape juice for the teen age kids and we have an affordable night out. We dine out allot with vouchers but always long for the standard we get here and have enjoyed for years.

I’ve been going to royal thai for ages. About 14years now. I think it’s consistently good, the staff are fast, and polite. There is nothing else better in Birkenhead for Thai food.

One negative experience shouldn’t be sole judgement. I have had repeatedly had great experiences here. This place has been there for more than 10 years, for a good reason. Time and time again, they have produced quality thai food. As you were at a birthday party, I assume you were in a large group. Large groups at a restaurant always cause an impact on the restaurant and sadly, quality is lost. However, this is an icon in Birkenhead. Awesome Thai food in a relaxed environment.

Were it not for the fact that one of our group had chosen this restaurant for their birthday treat, my wife and I would happily have left this restaurant prior to the main courses being served. What went wrong? Well what went right would be quicker.
Lets just say that we turned down a booking a Mikano because they couldn’t seat us until 8pm. If only we’d known that a 7pm booking at the Royal Thai would equal a serving time of 8.45pm. The restaurant seemed completely understaffed, and no apology was made to those seated, whilst those staff that were serving, dealt with a continual stream of takeaway orders.
Oh and when the food did turn up, in dribs & drabs, one dish was swimming in oil, smelt like week old chip fat and had to be sent back.
My wife is 6months pregnant and had requested her main come quickly, as she would struggle anyway with waiting for dinner after 7pm, by 8.30 she was reaching for sweets in her handbag, with her blood/sugar level starting to crash.
Avoid like the plague, but if you must, only use their takeaway service.
