Ruan Thai’s style of cuisine hails from the Great Siamese Kingdom. Dishes from the four main regions of Thailand are on offer: Northern, Northeastern (Isaan), Central, & Southern.

The cuisine incorporates a blend of flavours: hot, sour, salty, sweet & spicy too, along with aromatic herbs that are subtly added to enrich the traditional flavours.

Staff greet guests by pressing our palms together near our chest whilst bowing, which is the “Wai” greeting. This is all part of our smiling welcome to your Ruan Thai fine dining experience.

I went last weekend and had a great time! the staff were friendly, a great relaxed yet stylish atmosphere, not too noisy and very spacious (hate being squashed), with lovely with views of the Mission Bay Promenade. All big ticks! Many restaurants can be really noisy but this place was relaxed and spacious enough that we felt like we were not jammed up against other guests or privy to everyone else’s conversations. OK, the food is not 100% authentic Thai & Westernized, but it was absolutely delicious! I had a luxuriously creamy red duck curry that was PACKED with duck – and not dregs and duck skin like many of our local Thai places. The red curry sauce was coconutty and creamy and certainly did not have mashed potato in it! My friend had Macadamia crusted chicken in a beautiful tangy orange sauce. The servings were huge, and at about $22 each, I’d say that was a bargain – especially in Mission Bay! Great value. We had a beautiful bottle of red for $40, also very reasonable for what it was. My friend and I dine out a lot and were really impressed. I will definitely go back!

I love Ruan Thai. Been there twice and it never fails to impress me. The dishes are slightly pricey than your average Thai restaurant in Kingsland – but hey, I guess you’re paying for Mission Bay views. Nevertheless the service is always great, the dishes are tasty and atmosphere is cosy. Go for the cashew nuts beef/chicken/lamb – yummos!

Partner and I went for a meal here during the week. She ordered a coke which took a little while to get there but the best part was when the food came out – We started with Satay skewers and they tasted absolutely FAN-TAS-TIC! We couldn’t wait till we could taste the main and yes, this was fantastic too! Partner ordered a beef curry and I had a duck curry, both very high in flavour and very tasty. Total bill for 2; $64 and for the amount of food we had that was great value.

17.06.10 Went out with family for a 50th birthday dinner – service & presentation was good, the atmosphere was okay but had loud pounding music from the bar next door filtering through the restaurant the seats were uncomfortable but nothing could have prepared us for the awful food. Thai is a family favourite and we have been going to this restaurant for several years at least 4 times a year. Perhaps the chefs have changed?? Whatever the case the curries were so sweet, full of coconut cream and had no other flavour, the satay sauce was like peanut butter and curry powder and the pad thai was dripping with oil and again flavourless – no-one finished their dinner, all at the cost of $160.00 – we are sad and will not be going back to RUAN THAI. The portion focus is now on QUANTITY but definately NOT QUALITY – this is truly the worst restaurant experience for us to date.

We were recommended to Ruan by a friend who said the service was good , the atmosphere great and a good view. I agree with all three shame about the food plenty of it but not that good.
Perhaps we picked badly

We love the red duck curry and green chicken curry. The food is always excellent, the service always pleasant. I only wish they wouldn’t keep raising the prices. We now cook our own rice at home and have the curries takeaway. It’s still a real treat, though.

Hi. A group of us from work ate at Ruan Thai and I want to say the food, atmosphere and service was very good. Loved the flavours and the decor. Lovely hotest and staff. There was a good crowd there, not so loud as we were – sorry people. But we will be back soon for more awesome dishes and hopefully a little lest noisy. Thank you Ruan Thai.

Annie, get off your high horse!

I’ve travelled to Thailand and have experienced numerous “authentic Thai” meals. Since then, I’ve eaten at many Thai restaurants outside of Thailand, and have yet to find one that does serve authentic Thai dishes. In my opinoin, Ruan Thai comes close. It’s good food, at a good price and the staff are always friendly.

If you want authentic Thai food, do us a favour and go to Thailand!!

Hi I am the General Manager of Ruan Thai and I was present when Mr Trevity was charged Cakeage. Mr Trevity proved himself to be a difficult customer from the start, going behind my managers back, and we could not accomodate him, no matter how hard we tried. We clearly told him he would be charged before he ate cake. I believe my manager handled this situation well. I look foward to seeing you at Ruan Thai so you can make your own opinion. :) Regards Aaron

I was charged a ‘CAKEAGE’ fee of $15 just because I did not order anything, and had a bite of a friend’s birthday cake. Shame on you….

Have lived in Thailand for 6 months and the food here is great! The Service is nothing exceptional, but satsifactory. Make sure you request a seat by the Window if you can, otherwise get a booth seat. And try the Bananna Chicken Curry (Gai Nuan Nang)!

I’ve dined here a few times and have always had great service with a smile. Staff are always willing to help. The Mission Bay special is by far my favorite, ask for mild if you don’t like hot foods.

If you want authentic Thai food then don’t bother going here. As we left the restaurant after really bad service from a waitress who couldn’t seem to crack a smile we voiced our opinion that the food wasn’t authentic Thai. The staff member then told us it was European style Thai and that even the staff members didn’t eat it-they were given proper Thai style staff meals. Wish someone had told us this and we would have ordered staff meals!! Instead we got curry’s thickened up with mashed potatoes the most disgusting thing I have even tasted in my life. Up to you but I wouldn’t bother-either you want Thai or you want European in my opinion they don’t mix……
