We dine at this restaurant about once a month and it’s always good food and good service. It is never full but that’s how we like it. Our most recent experience last week was pretty good yet again. Just one complaint……I had a scallop salad and there was sooo much garlic in it I could taste it for 3 days afterwards!!!!

Had the best bit of eye fillet I’ve had in NZ…cooked beautifully rare and you could use a butter knife to cut it. Melted in your mouth. The potato could have had some cream, butter and seasoning to bring it up to that level. The red cabbage on top tasted wonderful but I’d have preferred it warm. Veges were nice and the jus was lovely. My friend had the pork which he enjoyed and my date sponge pudding was delicious. Will definitely go back.

went to the cafe on 29 July 11 only 2 people in the cafe at 7.00 pm. severice was poor so was the meal. I had Russian chicken keiv appaling two small peices of chicken pile of mash potatoes small amount of beans. This was all covered by a sauce that had no flavour. Wife had a lamb salad which turned out to be a roast lamb which was a selection of muscles a lot of could not be eaten. No atempt was was made to fill our glasses with the wine we had taken. At leasst the wine was good

Extremely poor service for a Friday night dinner even though the place was bare. The waitress obviously did not want to be there and gave us very mediocre service at best. The food was overpriced for the poor quality. I could smell my partners fish dish from the other side of the table which she did not finish. The garlic bread appetiser was sodden buttery bread with no garlic to be seen or tasted. I will never go back to Sage for dinner again, stick to bacon and eggs brunches that you do well and leave evening dining to those who know good food and good service. Very disappointed to spend a hundred dollars and walk out with most of the food still on our plates. Drive to Palmerston North if you want satisfaction !
Excellent food. Have been a handful of times and every time we are very happy with the food and service. Definitely recommend the steak! not found one as good anywhere else.

went there today for a 40th birthday brunch, 6 people in total. the waiter needed more training as it was clear he didn’t understand the menu when aftering ordering eggs benedict, we were asked how we wanted our eggs? scrambled, poached or fried? duh! had to wait a very long time before any food came out and the place was not even half full.
1 person ordered omelette and this came out first, 10-15 minutes later 3 big breakfasts came out, then 5 mins later 1 eggs benedict and then another 5 mins later the final eggs benedict. so the first person ate most of their meal by themselves in front of everyone else, and by the time the last person got their food the first person was well and truly finished. and what was delivered was not even accurate to order, things like some people wanting no tomatoes or mushrooms or others wanting extra mushrooms or potatoe roasties. i think the staff knew they had not done a good job and avoided us, didn’t even come and ask us how everything was once all the food had been delivered. Would not recommend going there in a group for any occassion.

Really nice food and great staff, but can be a bit noisy (wooden floors!) when it is busy. Highly recommended for a nice meal.
