We ate there twice whilst on holiday in Whitianga and had two excellent meals. Service was very good, and food was excellent. Nice selection of wines to chose from, and a very pleasant setting looking out over the marina.

It used to be my favorite restaurant in Whitianga, but they must have changed the chef. We went there a little while ago and the food was below average. Nice service (very professional) and all, but the food… very dissappointed. I ordered chicken, that was dry and had no taste. 3 of my friends ordered different dishes but they all so plain, too plain with not so much texture or flavour.

My friend’s steak seemed better than anything else. Their entrees and bar snacks were beautiful. Oyster tempura was the best!

I would go back to their fabulous bar for drinks and snacks but wouldn’t go back to the restaurant unless they review their menu.

I am sorry to be harsh, but I am really hoping them to be the great restaurant that they used to be again.

We recently indulged in lunch at Salt whilst holidaying in the sunny Coromandel.

The service was fantastic, water was served immediately and drink orders were taken very quickly after that.

The express lunch menu was good value and the food was delicious, I have to admit to a bit of menu envy. I had the Tuna Cerviche which was nice but the steak sandwich and the fish and chips were pronounced delicious!

The outdoor tables overlooking the marina were lovely and the small lawn area in front of the decking gave the 2 year old tornado somewhere to safely play while we enjoyed our meals.

We will definitely be back!

I ate here in Feb 2009, with my husband and my best friend (even when she lives 12000 miles away)
The girls had the crayfish starter my husband the belly pork could not fault either course.My friend and husband had the rib-eye steak, I had the fish of the day. We all followed this with the rhubarb creme brulle.
I can only say we will talk about this meal for the rest of our lives.We have all eaten around the world and this was the best meal of our lives.
The view,service,food and wine were out of this world. I will sing their praises forever!!!!!!!!!!!!
My friend has just had her Birthday and stayed in a top class hotel in Auckland for it.But alas the food was not to the same standard.

I was seated promptly by a well informed and trendy waitress, then offered the wine list, menu and water. It’s a good start!
The Scallop w Lemon Risotto entree was fantastic, just what I felt like sitting right beside the marina. My lamb main was cooked just as I had ordered and came with a tasty capernada which complimented all the flavours on the plate. All the food was seasoned so I didn’t have the need to use the SnP at the table. I had the Rice pudding with Fresh Papaya salad for desert which was lovely, a refreshing blend of warm and chilled, sweet and citrusy.

I really enjoyed my experience, good on you Salt.
