Went for my birthday with friends. Had a great night. The food was delicious, the service excellent and the atmosphere was awesome. Love the Hoegaarden on draft too!

I can’t understand anything less than a top rating for Salut. Great staff, great atmosphere, great food. I eat here often enough that I’d get bored and “ansti” if they didn’t constantly strive to exceed my expectations, which they do constantly. I’d have no hesitation in slagging off at anything that annoyed me, because I’m that kind of person. But from the waiting staff (especially Sam) to the chef to the owner… everything about Salut is highly recommended.

We regularly go to Salut for dinner and/or drinks on a Friday or Saturday night. The atmosphere is great, always good music playing and I love the decor. There is a great wine list. I especially like the ‘curvy’ seating to the left of the bar and frequently have drinks with girlfriends here. When we have dinner, I book a ‘booth’ for my husband and I. The service is always fantastic, the wait staff are attentive and quick, even when the restaurant is busy. The starters are always a good size, and the menu has several interesting options – salmon poached in pinot noir, roast duck breast, lamb shanks (great in winter!), smoked venison. We’re always happy and have a great night here.

We have been lunching here for some time. We feel that although the service never wavers, all the staff are always pleasant and obliging, the quality of the food has diminished somewhat. The fish meal was usually Tarakihi but is always shark or what is called lemonfish now. The steak was always fresh and cooked perfectly. The last two times we’ve been it’s been a marinated steak, obviously precooked and then reheated in the microwave. Not enjoyable at all. The dressing on the salad had a distinctive fishy taste. Will give one more try and if that doesn’t please will start going elsewhere.

I had my first meal at this Resturant on xmas eve, and I was very impressed.
Service was quick but not rushed, staff pleasent, and not overdone…altho not busy, I think it would have still been the same.
As for the food…I had the Ostrich for starters, what a great dish 10 out of 10..hope they always have it..I then had the Duck…really enjoyed that as well…

My husband had the seafood chowder, and the venison and was very pleased with his meal as well…we will be back..

My Partner and i went there for dinner tonight, must say very disappointed, she had the chicken wrap main,3 little chicken sausage rolls and a polenta cake,$29??,it all looked like supermarket purchased, tasted like it to,i had the mussel entree as a main, was ok.The service was poor, young waitress kept coming over and interrupted us as we were talking to ask things like “can you pass the napkin”,not very good at all.The atmosphere definitely not fine dining,i don’t mind Elvis Presley but not while I’m having dinner,as a result,we wont be going back to dine there again

The best food I have ever tasted in my life. I ordered the salmon on polenta for my main and it was deliciously divine. Even the bruschetta is unusually tasty.

The service is friendly and not too pushy (which is always a plus for me).

Another plus is the atmosphere, the decor is richly luxurious and the seating is nice and private.

Had yet another fantastic night at Salut! Fantastic service and more important food was excellent. We have been here to eat or drink a lot over the last 4 months as friends have had birthdays and we enjoy quiz nights of Tuesdays and we are never disappointed. We had the breads & dips to start which were warm and yummy (very tasty dips) then I had the steak (perfect). We decided to splash out and have a cheese board & port to end the evening and it has to be one of the most tasty range of cheese we have had in a long time. Go Salut, you are our favourite at the moment. We will be back (soon).

Went there August 2009. Service was amazing. I was hesitant in going to this restaurant because of previous reviews but since its my friends birthday – she picked the place.

The bread and dips was great – for an entree.I had duck for mains – best Ive had in Whangarei. Its quite surprising really. The staff that attended to us was great. He even recommended what is his favourites in the menu.He explains well every menu.. specially the desserts – which dessert goes with which dessert (I mean portion wise).

They may be not the best in the past but give it a try – its on of the best. The mains are around $27-32 so its not an everyday thing but you get what you pay for really.I will definitely go back there again! Cant wait.

I eat at Salut most weeks, the lunch menu is excellent value for money and it is delicious! Only $20 and that includes a glass of my favourite wine. I have had dinner here about 6 times every time a great experience and the people I have taken to Salut (family and friends) from out of town can’t believe this fantastic restaurant is here in Whangarei. It is top class. My Dad has said it’s the best duck he has ever had and he is very fussy about his food.

I have just attended a group xmas lunch function at this restaurant and I must say it is one of the poorest I have ever attended. At $16 per head for approx 40 people there where alot of people that did not get anything to eat, even though the ones that did manage to get something it was very insufficient for a lunch, maybe a morning or afternoon tea, or an entree.
More food was requested from the waitress for the unfortunate but nothing was bought forward.
I must say if this restaurant was booked again for next year I would be surprised, and would probably not even bother the walk up the road.
The only winners of this day would have been the restaurant do to the money paid and the lack of food provided, not to mention the bar takings.

We have been to Salut twice, once since the new menu. Both times have been superb but the second visit was outstanding. Amazing food, with presentation and service unlike I’ve experience before in Whangarei. A must visit for those wanting a fine dining experience.

Fantastic food and Hoegaarden on tap ! Had 2 occasions where they were shortstaffed and one was an amazingly long wait which was unfortunate. Great venue for music as well.
