We went for dinner for 9 people.
The food doesn’t come out at the same time, people we’re getting their mains before other people had even been given their entrées and they were giving people mains while they were still eating their entrées. Made the table very crowded and felt very rushed. The whole point of an entrée is to eat it before your main meal. Definitely need to work on their timing.
The $5 entrée curry with roti is really good value and tasty, the chicken on is much better than the vege one as that one was slightly watered down. The lemon chicken is really good.
However don’t think about getting the main $17 Malaysian curry where you have to pay an extra $3 for roti. It is only slightly bigger than the entrée sized one and exactly the same (I got the main a friend got the entrée I tried both) If you want a curry just get the entrée that comes with roti and pay extra for rice. This is pretty poor. I don’t expect to pay $20 for rice roti and a curry when I could have actually got the same thing for $8.
Staff are quite rude, had to ask to order after we had been sitting for nearly an hour.

I have walked pass this restaurant so many times on Saturday decided to try it out. My family were not sure what the food would be like and we were pleasantly surprised it was excellent we could not stop talking about how nice the lemon chicken was as it is one of the family favourites. Decided that this would be a restaurant we would come back to. Found out from friends they go all the time great food at a good price. Looking forward to eating and trying different foods on the menu. Thanks.

I go here a lot for a meal and BYO before town. Very friendly service and in a handly location.
The food is yummy and their menu is extensive.
My favourites are the Kung Pow Chicken the Lemon chicken and the Keow teow

Brilliant place to go for BYO’s. Food is cheap, and had the best Asian meal i have had in a long time. service isn’t good but isn’t to bad for the price. Big portion sizes as well.

One of my favourite places to eat and definitely in the cheap and cheerful category. The decor is a little tired and the toilet facilities could do with an upgrade but meh… it’s nothing to worry about.
The food is yummy, the wait staff are friendly, and the service is okay (but not lightening fast). Today I had rojak mee and a roti – seriously yummy, big plate and enjoyed every forkful. It might just become my new favourite dish.

This is next to the Dixon St Deli – I struggled to find it, but that’s my own fault….
Came here for a BYO night. Corkage was a reasonable $5. Mains are very well priced here. I had a naan and a curry of some sort for $8!!! Well sized portions, and the best bit was the rice was complimentary. This is a very low key restaurant, but if you want a decent sized meal at a good price, I’d recommend Satay Kajang. Good menu options as well.

I used to eat at this restaurant every week around 5-6 years ago, it was my favourite Malay around. Anyway, this place has numerous good points, and a couple of bad. Service-wise, this perhaps the friendliest service Asian restaurant in Wellington – as many of these places – Malay & Chinese, seem to not value a friendly manner at all (i think we are all familiar with the woman at Satay Kingdom), but here they’re not bad, particularly if you’re regular. Also, this place isn’t quite as poky and small as other places like KK Malaysian or Roti Chenai Malaysian over on Victoria. The prices are about the same as Satay Kingdom and other places around, which is good. A nice big meal for $10 or so.
Elsewhere, the place is let down. It doesn’t have the lightning quick service of Satay/Oriental Kingdom, so waits can be a little bit tiresome. The menu isn’t really too big, and the dishes are all quite similar to what you’d find at the other Malay joints in town. Gets pretty busy in the evening and while not tiny like other places it does fill up pretty quick.
One of the better Malaysian places in town, but these days i prefer Oriental Kingdom, which is similar, but bigger and faster. Excellent seafood laksa, bee hon goreng and mee goreng though. tasty!

I love Satay Kajang, mainly because of it’s value for money. Their roti chanai comes with 2 pieces of roti (I love to combine this with a coconut rice for a meal too big to finish for under $10). I also love their mee goreng, although I wouldn’t recommend it if you are watching your waist line, but very very tasty. I eat here probably 3 times a month, and keep coming back. It’s true that sometimes their service is a little erratic, but I keep coming back nonetheless. Would totally recommend!
This is my favourite Malay in Wellington. The Seafood Laksa is superb, infact everything there is. The waiting staff also excellent and super friendly. Decors pretty old skool but you get what you pay for and this is great value for money.

I have been dining here for many years (at least 6 years). The food is always excellent, tasty and great value. The service has been fine, no complaints at all. I have taken lots of friends there, many of which keep going as they love it too. Good for children.

I agree, the service lets the food down. I think they really need to work on getting all the meals for a table out at the same time.

I agree with the review for the restaurant. The food is good but the service is bad.
The food is good but the service is the worst I have seen at any place in ages. The lady manager of the restaurant is rude and the food can take more than 1 hour to be served. This has been experience of me and my work on more than one occasion. i and my work mates have decided not to visit it again for the very Reason that the staff is rude and the food takes too long to come.
