Popped in for a quick lunch, had the satay chicken, with a roti, it came out super fast, maybe 4-5 minutes after ordering. Now that can be a bit disconcerting, but the flavours were incredible, complex, and delicious. The Roti was perfect. The prices were reasonable, and I will keep going back to this crazy little place. As others have said, it’s not really comfortable, it’s pokey and dirty looking, and no one wants to sit outside in left bank unless your a smoker, or like pigeons….. No one likes pigeons. But go for the food, the food is really good.

Good big portions very reasonably priced. Its actually pretty cheap for what u get & quality is good too. Its not overly oily or cheap in taste. Just ignore the surroundings. Its a good takeaway. Like it will be back. The service is OK. Can not expect too much from takeaway places but they were polite enough.

Best place to have lunch, their #10 is the best! Very decent portion sizes and quick service. Surroundings are a bit grotty with pigeon crap everywhere, but the food is sooo worth it, and you can always takeaway to avoid the unsightly environment. Their roti is to die for- the best!

We went there with another two friends for a late lunch. Portion was really small. The onion on my plate was still raw. My wife need order rice with her satay chix.My friend got 4 pieces of chix in her chix curry. We think we have plenty of other choices in town.

Cheap as hell and the surroundings reflect that, but their food is amazing.

Cheap, delicious. This little spot on Leftbank the most delicious Malaysian food! It is really cheap too. You get fantastic value for money and probably expected value for money when it comes to service but who cares when it’s so cheap. Probably wouldn’t dine in with all the pigeon poop around but takeaway fantastic and you can phone order ahead and swing your car round to the back of Farmers for a quick pitstop and walk through to Leftbank. Really nice drinks in the fridge too! Best roti – yum yum!

Have been going to this place for about 10 years now, food is always great value and so tasty. Try the chicken satays or roti or nasi kampong, or kam pong chicken, all highly recomended!
This popular longstanding Wellington institution is certainly worth checking out, particularly for those of you new to the city, or unfamiliar with Malay cuisine. I first ate here about 6-7 years back, and was pleasantly surprised. Known throughout the city for their roti chenai (available in vegeterian or chicken, and in varying degrees of spiciness), the place also hosts a smallish, but delectable menu with some other hidden treats on offer.
Satay Kingdom’s greatest strangth is their delicious food, including the delectable Roti Chenai and mouthwatering, huge bowls of curry or seafood laksa. That said, their swift service is also a plus, as the staff at this very casual eatery will have your food whisked out promptly, even when they’re busy – which is most of the time – showing the experience of the staff, and the lonstanding-ness the place has. Food portions can also be quite generous (i mentioned the huge bowls of laksa) and of course the prices are very, very cheap. Roti for $6 or a massive noodle, seafood laksa for $8 for example.
Anyway, Kingdom also has its downsides – the pokiness of this tiny restaurant doesn’t make for a very pleasant setting, and the outdoor seating, situated in the horrible, pigeon-ridden Left Bank isn’t exactly conducive to the appetite. As i mentioned earlier – the place is always busy too, which means the seating options aren’t always optimal. The place is popular among students and teenagers, and is rather cramped, so if you’d rather not bumb shoulders with these types, you might want to get your order takeout – a quick, hassle free option that is recommended – especially if you live nearby and have a hankering for their delectable Roti soup. As per the norm with many asian restaurants – the staff aren’t overly polite or friendly, but they sure know who to churn out quality meals by the truckload to a packed cafe.
Anyway, cheap, delicious, no frills dining, Satay KMoreingdom is a popular Wellington institution with good cause, just not the most comfortable eatery to dine in. That being said, many of the other Malay places in town are similarly cramped, or laking in decor.

Always delicious, always fast and always very generous portions. Satay kingdom (and it’s BYO partner Oriental Kingdom: across the alleyway and run by the same people) is a place where my friends and I often frequent. It isn’t fancy but it is always a good time
Had dinner there with me, my partner and 2 kids – for $35 I cant complain at the cost. Service is fast and taste is good. Good place for cheap eats.
Would go back again.

Satay Kingdom is the best value for money food in Wellington, period. Their roti chanai is a brilliant appetiser and their chicken mi goreng is awesome. The portions are generous, the above two dishes usually feed both me and my partner quite comfortably.

This place is great if you want taste over service – the prices are great but every time i have been the waiting staff are barely pleasant and really dont care. Make sure you double check your order before paying as a slight pronunciation changes your chicken to vegetarian in their minds and they wont fix the problem!
However best Roti in wgtn and cheapest option around. Their Roti Chenai is awesome!

I love this little place. It is nothing fancy in the way of atmosphere or service but the meals are delicious, cheap and large.
Pick your times wisely as it can often be very busy. Sometimes the meals are variable probably due to different cooks but I have only been disappointed once or twice with my expectations.
Mee Goring and the Chicken Curry with roti are personal favourites.
